as they say history is bound to repeat itself thats why we must learn from it and we should never forget the past there is nothing we could do to change it but we can prevent it from ever happening again remembering it is also a good way to honor the sacrifices of all the people involved

i feel sorry for your friend it must be incredibly hard for him to learn about this but it is now part of his people history

If we forget about the war, the holocaust deniers win.
For us to lose grasp on the history of this terrible event will cause problems and for it to actually happen would take a lot.

WW2 is one of, if not the most important part of history. I think it will be very hard to find a European or American school that doesn't teach students about this. Along with schooled education we are reminded of the war by Films, TV shows and other sources of entertainment.

The only this I can imagine that'll make us forget about WW2 is with WW3.

Sadly, you may be right. If World War III is fought with nuclear weapons, World War IV will be fought with sticks and rocks. Or so the old quote goes.

Zurenriri :
MechaMento :
The only time we forget, will be when we stop teaching. Both World War I and II are taught, and remembered, A Third World War will just be an addition to the list of great Wars we remember... World War I is taught, but not extensively, they focus more on the Second one.

"History repeats itself because no one was listening the first time. "
Similarly:
"Those who forget the mistakes of the past, are doomed to repeat them".

If the deaths of both world wars had any value, Its that they taught a lesson.

It's easy to see all the negatives, but the are positives too. A war between European nations is now almost unimaginanble. This, compared to a time when not a year passed without some pointless war.

Its a pity that not all nations saw such benefits.
Both North and South America, as well as mast of europe are stable, but wars and ethnic cleansing are common in the rest of the world, since the European's left.

I have no doubt that there are people today, who's suffering is very much on par with that of the civilians of the world wars.
Right now, there are people being killed en masse, over religion, ethnicity, nationalism, and 101 other pointless differences.
If ww2 is still goodfor anything, its to empathise with the rest of the world.

Sparky15756 :
A problem I have with people's memory's of ww2, is they often talk about the suffering of the jews.
Thats true, but gays, the disabled, gypsies, and slavic people were also put through the death camps. They are, unfortunately, forgotten about by most people.

That is the dumbest hypothetical/question/anything pertaining to WW II I have ever heard. As someone who is of Israeli decent (not Jewish by religion though.) forgetting about WW II Is like forgetting that the U.S. plays referee for everything--- breaking every little fight / conflict up, despite controversy. Forgetting about WW II is like forgetting your mother's tongue. Forgetting about WW II is like forgetting that humanity's ambition is humanity's worst weakness.
The world would be so different first off it wasn't for anti-Jewish beliefs, spreading back year, upon decades, upon centuries. If there wasn't anti-Jewish beliefs in Russia in the 1800's maybe there'd be a larger Jewish population there. If there wasn't discrimination in general maybe we'd actually cure cancer or some crap like that.

I feel I've ranted enough, eh?

BluemageKyle : Not to be mean or anything, but WWII is getting forgotten by the masses. I have heard interviews asking about Franklin D. Roosevelt, people didn't know who he was. Many think that the Holocaust is just a myth, they think that 6 million people can just disappear, and appear in German books, as killed in concentration camps, but they didn't die there, because it's all a myth... The question is a good one, people are forgetting because they forget the importance of History.
