On steam they have an entire section dedicated to demos, but I don't know if any of the games are good. Would you guys recommend any of the demos they have on Steam? What genre of games do you recommend I look at? I have looked at action/ adventure, but haven't seen much... I like any games Star Wars themed, of the ones I have seen. (Sadly I haven't seen any demos there.) I LOVE strategy games, and mild shooters, like Star Wars Battlefront II nothing with mindless action and killing, something that requires strategy, and doesn't have too much brutality. With these guidelines can you help me find some good demos?

darthyoda : What games do you have in your Steam account? That might help those trying to give you recommendations. I don't have any recommendations except those based on reviews I've read (I've only played one demo on Steam), and I'm not sure what stuff is in your account.

darthyoda : Yup, it does! Have you tried Europa Universalis IV? The game has a ton of depth to it, and is similar to Civilization in some ways. Also, the demo to The Stanley Parable is probably the best demo I have ever played, although that doesn't fall into any of your categories. Also, I've heard the demo for Kerbal Space Program is pretty good. KSP requires more planning than strategy, but is really fun, from what I've heard. For many people, it's their favorite game on Steam, even though it's still in early access.

Strategy and star wars? Have you played star wars empire at war?
Its essentially a universal planet conquest, where you build units and fortifications on your planets and expand your reach.
The expansion forces of corruption added some nice features, such as corrupting planets, blackmail, extortion etc.
It doesent have a demo on steam but there are demos online. Its a good game, especially with all the user mods.

I wouldn't recommend the force unleashed, massive disappointment. Jedi academy is better in all honesty.

I have europa universalis iv and while fun, I dont actually recommend it. The User interface isnt brilliant, and your territories just decidde to become autonomous after a certain point meaning you cant build troops there, making expansion difficult. Its pretty stupid.
I prefer Empire total war and Rome total war, both great. Iv clocked many hours on both.

I recently bought Kerbal space program and it is fun, but exceptionally frustrating. You need to actually understand the physcis of it to succeed. In fairness its taught me quite a lot, but I've hit a wall.

Crusader Kings 2 is quite good if you like realism, though not easy. While possible to just conquer everything, the scheming of your vassals and foreigners makes it very hard to stay alive. You tend to aim to achieve goals like creating Britain or France etc, while putting down revolts and tactically creating alliances and giving land to your subjects. Maybe more realistic than you want, but I enjoy it.

Hitman blood money is a good strategy shooter, you have to kill your targets with surgical precision and try to avoid leaving evidence.

men of war:assault squad is decent. You have an overview of a battle map and have to capture all the points by deploying troops (infantry, paratroopers, tanks, mortars etc). Its set in ww2 so theres campaigns for the Ally nations and axis.

Mount and blade warband is very good. You start of with a character (that you control) and can recruit and train troops. Fight for a king or become a king. Its like rome total war except you actually move around as a character and fight (you can control your guy in battles).

Sid meiers v has a demo, its pretty good, I enjoyed it.
Imperial glory is fun (and cheap too). Theres no demo on steam but im pretty sure you can find one online.

Also, Battlefield 1 was better than 2. I feel I should mention that incase you never played it. I found 2 to be a massive disappointment.

Iv played both and 1 was far better. They don't (for some reason)sell battlefront on steam, I have my copy on disk. The graphics aren't as good as they are nowadays, but I still love it. Maybe you can find it cheap online somewhere, its probably only worth a few bucks.

Edit- Wont let me reply.
If you get more than 4 territorys that are contiguous (next to each other) they form states, like quebec etc. They are still owned by you, and pay some (less) tax, but you cant recruit troops or choose what to build. Any troops thry create cant be controlled by you.
You have to recruit miles away and send the troops over.
My colonies kept getting into wars with other people and losing their lands.
It was an update, and apparently only happens in the americas, if youre capital is in europe.
It needs massive tweaking. I edited my game files so colonys wont form unless theres 40 territorys. Not an issue now.

I could absolutely recommend Europa Universalis IV, although I'd recommend watching a Youtube video of it first. It's an excellent strategy game, but not the kind of thing that everyone likes.

I play EU4 a ton, and I've never seen my territories decide to become autonomous. Do you mean from rebels conquering your territory and enforcing their demands?
