In order to add specialties and glows to games, game soundtracks are known to help games shine and stand out. Game soundtracks help to create each and every game special whether it would be from action, strategy, rpg, and etc. Not only do they help but they also help increase its popularity of games. Each game has its own unique and special soundtrack that draw anyone in.

To me, game soundtracks are like music without words which make it more unique and special to me. It just simply speaks to me with its instruments playing while creating a certain theme for a part in a game.

What are your thoughts on game soundtracks in general?

Game soundtracks are fun because your mind ties into music and songs and hearing Zelda or Super Mario Brothers 3 or any of the old NES or SNES games' soundtracks reminds me of being a kid.  They are like 90s music and they instantly rocket me back to elementary school, middle school, or high school.  They're fun and art form.

The music for some of the RPGs is also purely excellent.  The overworld theme to Final Fantasy III, for example, still gives me chills, not just for the story or the game but for the music itself.

Music is extremely powerful because it evokes emotions and thoughts.  It inspires and demands action.  It can tear you down and leave you sad or depressed (SIlent Room 4: The Room).

It's one of the greatest things humanity has and video games just add another element to a powerful art form.

ghostfishy : I think game soundtracks are good types of instrumentals of a song and I agree with you about them helping the game become a memorable object of interest, like in Final Fantasy 13 there are soundtracks that give the feel of the outcasts and criminals of the game's society, and their situation of being a criminal by the sound of the soundtracks, such as "Desperate Struggle" or Eden Under Siege" soundtracks of the game. Really good instrumentals!
Here they are respectively:

EDIT: I also agree with warmmaker with what he said. I feel as if he hit the nail on the head.

I love game soundtracks. A soundtrack can make or break a game, and a good one can make a game really grab your attention. Not to mention hearing a tune from a game that you remember from a while back will instantly make you want to play it all over again many times.

A perfect example is a game that I was playing about an hour ago: it was fun, and the environment details were amazing for the system it was on (PS2), but when the music for the level kicked in, it ruined the mood because it simply did not fit the level well at all. A good example would be The Legend of Zelda - The Twilight Princess. Another great (and more retro) example would be Toejam & Earl, or Super Mario Bros. These are games with music that really pulled you into them.

Honestly, I think a great soundtrack is probably more effective in making a game engrossing than great graphics, but at the very least it's equally effective.

Depending on the game soundtracks, I could absolutely LOVE them, or I can absolutely hate them. But more often then not, the soundtracks are just a joy to listen to. The only bad ones are the arcadic sounds from NES/Atari.

It depends really, some tracks are top notch, like X/Y or sonic 3, they're great tracks and all, but I usually don't listen to videogame music, so idk.
