?Watch_Dogs Is an open world action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal, and set within Chicago, Illinois. The story follows the life of cyber criminal turned vigilante, Aiden Pierce who uses his proficiency in hacking in an attempt to avenge the accidental death of his niece.
This game was our first true look at the capabilities of the new and improved consoles.
The graphics receive a 6 from me, I was disappointed by the graphics of Watch_Dogs, the graphics of Infamous Second Son surpassed the graphics of Watch_Dogs no-contest, however, the graphics of things such as water puddles and the bodies of water were almost photo-realistic, which sometimes tempts me to take a boat in place of a car.
The sound in this game was above-average, well-deserving of a solid 8, The sound that a cars engine makes varies by factors such as the strength of the engine, and the type of vehicle. Gunshot sounds varies between each gun, instead of each class of gun like most third person games. It also makes great use of voice fading, A character on the other side of a wall is much harder to hear than one directly in front of you, this added a whole new element to the stealth game-play, and made me think, process, and focus instead of acting on instincts like most stealth titles.
The addictiveness of this game is grounded mainly in it's complex yet easy to understand multiplayer, to play modes like online racing or online free-roam you have to have PlayStation Plus access which I don't as of posting this review, It's online hacking and tailing comes with the implementation of lobby free multiplayer called "Invasions" these can occur at any time during the players game, meaning that the invader gets the element of surprise and can make a plan before hacking or tailing. Each Hack/tail happens in a new players game, meaning that each invasion is new and non-repetitive, which is the downfall of many good multiplayer games. However the single player mode leaves much to be desired after the completion of the storyline, but in my opinion the multiplayer makes up for what single player lacks.
The storyline is a new take on your typical revenge story, It's not something that I haven't seen in a video game, and It feels a little repetitive and un-developed over time, but the occasional plot twist and character development kept me motivated to complete story-mode, the ending Is intense and action packed, it contains a major plot twist, and to cue the credit-roll, you have a big decision to make at the end.
The game's map is large and leaves many opportunities for you to explore and get a feel for your playing environment, it contains different districts each with their own different activities to participate in. But though the map is large, it consists mainly of bodies of water, if you were to compare the land mass of Watch_Dogs with that of Grand Theft Auto V, you would see that the latter has a much more in depth map. The vehicle choices are severely limited in Watch_Dogs, and left me with only a few cars that I drive on a regular basis, Grand Theft Auto V's selection of vehicles completely blew Watch_Dogs out of the park.
The game isn't too difficult but it was challenging throughout, The hacking elements made stealth gameplay easier without eliminating any of the difficulty. The difficulty of multi-player varies based on the other players experience, but the game gives you a decently accurate estimation of their difficulty before throwing you right in.
Overall this is a very good title, and definitely worth a buy for any fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, or fans of third person shooters. But those looking for an emotionally taxing or in depth storyline won't find it here. Definitely a good time waster, and worth every penny. |
