As the new Article Writer on Vizzed, I'll be going a different avenue than the others and post articles on separate issues, which should open up for conversation or comments on new gaming news. It should open up a bigger side to this forum, and help Vizzed be a hub for more information.
Game developer Bungie has recently said that their new Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter Destiny will perform at 1080p 30fps. While the resolution will be a lot better than that of what you'd see on PS3 or the Xbox 360, the frame rate will be noticeably lower than what you'd normally see on PS4 or Xbox One.
Bungie is very well known for making the initial trilogy of the Halo games, which is the staple of Microsoft gaming. Destiny is going to be their first multiplatform game, and people from all over have gotten their new, shiny systems up and running in anticipation of buying it. Some even moved companies as free men when they heard that Bungie was going third party. To celebrate, Bungie partnered with Sony to make a new, special edition White PS4 bundled in with the game.
When asked why they made this change, Jason Sussman, the senior environment artist at Bungie, who helped design those impressive scapes in the Halo games, said "It's a lot of different things. I could get really technical, but I’d bore you to death. A lot has to do with performance. We’re cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the scree n. We’re always balancing that out to make sure everyone gets the same experience."
The thick of what he said is that while the game will look its best on these consoles, the performance needs to be the same in the name of fairness between console players, as the game is gonna be playable between PS3 and PS4 players, just as it will be with 360 and Bone players
Destiny has had the largest budget of any game, of 500 million dollars. They need to sell 11 million copies in order to break even. They really do have high hopes for this game, and they certainly can't hit that mark with just next generation consoles.
The noticeable difference between gameplay in 30fps and 60fps is stagnating when you see it. Often times it's hard to go back. Everything runs much smoother looking and more realistic.
The fact this game couldn't be shown in all its glory is a real shame, and it gives me hope that one day soon we'll move onto the new generation and developers won't have to hold back the new with the old. This generation is certainly shaping up to be great, with Assassins Creed Unity being the first in PS4/Bone only games that will be sure to form the generation we will come to love.
