Graphics:7. Compared to other games at the time Dig Dug offered more with graphics, Pac-Man was literally a yellow circle, and many other games just had odd shapes for people, or basic icons. Dig Dug, on the other hand made me get a feel like this was more real the inflation transitions of enemies looked very real. This could also be said for breaking rocks. This game definitely set the standard for graphics back then
Sound:8. The sounds, while being unrealistic are definitely very good. The sound for Dig Dug's walking, while short is catchy. The only downsides are that the sound of the Pookas [tomatoes with goggles], and Fygars [cute green dragons] are very annoying, and are constant if not moving, and that a majority of the game's sound [that is also fantastic] is rarely heard.
Addictiveness: 10. This game is extremely addictive. And that all goes to game play and sound. Because I already covered sound though let the majority of this be about the game play. Basically you dig through the ground and try to kill all the enemies on the screen. The enemies are Pookas an Fygars [named above.] They run around in tunnels at high speed. Pookas just run Fygars spam low range fire breath. You can pop them with a bicycle pump or smash them with rocks. It is a very simple fun and addictive game.
Story- . While this game has no story, it is not hard to imagine what happened. Either Dig Dug is a deranged psychopath, or these animals are causing trouble [ruining gardens making tremors etc.]
Depth:5. The game might have been good, but the game is still very basic. It has no special items, only 2 enemies and high amounts of repetition. Well, quality over quantity I guess, *sigh*
Difficulty: 6. The game starts out really easy and is throughout most of the game the only time I really die is when I get tag teamed by a lot of
enemies or when I have a problem with momentum or the pump doesn't do what I want to do.
Extra Acknowledgements: Quality wise the game would be in late 8's to about a 9.1 with a good deal of luck. It got as high as it did because of it's originality, it's a golden oldie as I would say it.
So overall Dig Dug is a great game that really deserves the 9.3 rating I have given it!
