First of all, I'm kinda surprised that although many people in vizzed board knows about shadowgate (ok...not THAT many), there hasn't been any walkthrough for it yet, so I decided to fill up the missing space here....anyway let's begin:

********************************************************************************************************************************************************

Contents of the guide:

1- What is shadowgate?
2- Tips
3- Fake FAQ (yes, it lists the questions that I predict your going to ask....so it isn't accurate)
4- If all else fails, the walkthrough

********************************************************************************************************************************************************
**********************
* 1- What is Shadowgate? *
**********************

Shadowgate is a point-and-click game developed by ICOM Simulations, Inc , it was first ?made for Apple Macintosh in 1987, it released several ports....and probably the best of them is the NES port (well in my opinion anyway).

If you want a quick tour/sentence that summarizes this game, well let's say......you open a door and a monster jumps out and kill you then you get a gameover......ok ok, it isn't that trollish, but it's accurate to say that the game doesn't tells you what to do and rarely warns you of anything ahead, that being said it isn't surprising that you die every so often, in fact....you can die in several hilarious ways, and some that made me laugh hard, and that my friends.......is why I like Shadowgate in the first place.....and why it is so popular.
********************************************************************************************************************************************************
********
* 2- Tips*
********

Now before you advance any further, I want you to at least try it....because half of the fun in the is that you do things that you didn't realize it was wrong. Now in case you didn't cared what I said earlier and want the advises now, then here they are:

A- Your torches are your life, put them out and you'll be dead immediately, and yes...with time, they will get extinguished ?(Don't worry, there are enough torches for you in the game), and before you move on to the next hint, you gatta conserve them, so you only set torches on fire if your last active torch is about to get extinguished...You can know that your torch is about to die when the music changes.

B- SAVE often (well, you may say it isn't nessesary because you can continue after you die....BUT, the torch's life STILL carries over which had made me think the torches are dying faster, but there should be enough torches to you anyway).

C- Use LOOK a lot, at items and objects (this action DOES takes time although I think it only take a little bit), I'm surprised by the amount of information LOOK gives to the players, heck sometimes it gives DIRECT hints.

D- Pay attention to your surroundings or to the text, there may be a clue in there.

E- Press "Select" or "Start" for hints, which makes half of this guide useless. (and about the the other half? well...there are rooms where it can't help you)

F- NOT A TIP: Try to die in different ways in this game, like drinking BOTTLE 1 or by stabbing yourself with a sword....yes, you can even do that.

********************************************************************************************************************************************************

**************
* 3- Fake FAQ ?*
**************

So you're not satisfied with my hints? Very well, this fake FAQ will list several solution in the early parts of the game:

Q) I have began the game, but I can't seem to open the wooden door in the inside of the first room in the castle?
A) Go back outside and OPEN the skull above the door, it will move then show a key, that key will open that wooden door .

Q) What the hell? I have taken a book and the floor below me opens up and I fell in?? This game sucks!!!!
A) Easy there, if you followed my tips you should have examined the book and the character states that the book's pages has not been disturbed for centuries (but too bad because they can be by disturbed by OPENing it), so doesn't that seems suspicious to you?
[2 days later], he actually rage quit'd....

Q) Help! I can't find a way to kill the dragon, and how can I open that chest? Does the dragon have the key?
A) First of all, there's no way to kill the dragon in the first place, he is here because......well.....the designers want you to pick a shield first and.......nevermind. Just pick up the shield and pick the rest of the items, but leave the room after the dragon spews flame for the 4th time then get out and return.
As for the chest....I don't think it's possible to open it....and it isn't necessary for the game either.

Q) I can't seem to proceed any further, I'm in the mirror room and there is a hole that leads into another room, but it is too deep so I die if I jump down, what am I suppose to do?
A) I....uhh......use the first part of the walkthrough.....ok?

********************************************************************************************************************************************************
******************
* 4- The walkthrough *
******************

You still want to spoil the game? Fine, fine...I will give you the walkthrough then, please do note that it will be a step-by-step walkthrough, but I will try make paragraphs in order to make it easier for you to read.....and show some deaths along the way for amusement:

***** Early Part *****

Skipping the introduction, you start in front of the castle Shadowgate itself!

Now before you get excited and get inside I want you look around a little bit.
See anything?......Huh!? a trap you say? Jesus..the game isn't THAT merciless,
ok...I guess my description in the first content of this walkthrough was bad.
Anyway, have you seen it? no...? Alright, press "START" button please.....
What!? you still don't get it?......I guess I really DO have to give out direct
solutions. Just OPEN the skull above the door and it should move up
revealing a key! TAKE Key 1, now you are free to MOVE through the door.

Just when you enter inside, an image of the Warlock Lord appears and
calls you a buffoon and says that there isn't anything for you here except
death....Riiiiiight. Moving on, TAKE the two Torches and USE Key 1 on the
front door to open it, now MOVE into there.

Oh goody, another two Torches...TAKE them, but wait....now you have a
Torch sitting by itself in your inventory, what gives? Well, why don't you
LOOK at it? Indeed, there is something strange with this Torch but you
can't figure it out. Anyway, LOOK at the book....it seems nobody disturbed
for centuries and it's probably because it's Twilight. Anyway, TAKE, I mean
OPEN the book to find it has been cut and inside the cut there is
Key 2, TAKE it.

Now that you have Key 2, MOVE back to the room with two doors then
USE Key 2 on the iron door and MOVE into it. You'll find a Sling and a
Sword. Now I want you to LOOK at the awesome Sword (who cares
about the Sling), now that you enjoyed staring at them, TAKE them and
MOVE out then MOVE into the wooden door.

Hold your horses (or in this case, your MOVE command), there is
something that you should do in this room before you MOVE on to the next
room?missed?in this room, can you find it? no? Then look closely or press
"Start" button
, still? Ok then, there is a brick here that is brighter than the
others, did you?see it? Now I want you to HIT OPEN it and tataaaah,
it's a secret passage, MOVE into it...and forget about what I said in the
beginning of this paragraph.....Actually....MOVE into the right.

Now three doors are in front of you, let's start with the one on the right
and *Gulp* there....i-i-ss....a...a....A SHARK IN A POOL! good thing
that we humans live outside of the water
, now now, as long as you don't
MOVE into the pool, everything should be fine....just....MOVE into the
door to the to the left. Pheeeew! That was over.....not , so anyway, here
we....OMG, perfectly round rocks, TAKE it! TAKE THEM ALL!
Now let's see what else we have here, a waterfall, stairs that is blocked by
rocks that you can't move, and the other side of the river that you can't get
to. Hmmm, well that's kinda tough, we'll have to press "Start" and see what
does it says: "It looks like something is behind the waterfall", come to think
of it, it does look like we can go behind it, shall we MOVE behind it?

Ok, this must be the most cramped room we have ever been...and what's
that pitch black rock anyway? let's LOOK at it. Ahaa!, it's loose so we can
TAKE it. Huh? we can't take it? grrrr, you know what? In situation where
nothing goes the way I want it I just bang my head at the wall, so do me a
favor and
HIT that stupid rock, an...oh my....that actually worked....I guess
banging your head at the wall DOES work
, anyway for some reason you
can't take the bag so we'll have to OPEN it, and wow....nice gems, I knew it,
the Warlock Lord was lying, there is something other than death in this castle,
I hope it's enough to buy you a new house, so let's TAKE them, and MOVE
back twice....I-I mean.....thrice.

Now you're back in the room with three room, let's MOVE into the to the
left. Owww, what's that smell? and why it is so cold here? We better get out of
this room, just TAKE the Torches and USE the White gem in the hole to make
a sphere appear out of nowhere then TAKE the sphere, be careful...it makes
cold atmosphere in this room looks pitiful. Finally, now we just have to OPEN
the trap door and go down MOVE to the door to the left.

Ok, admit that you got scared when you first entered this room, I mean...
who doesn't get scared of a (20-30 feet tall?) dragon when he's totally naked?
Now listen, we both ganna die if you attempt to MOVE to the dragon TAKE
anything except the shield, ok? Shall I repeat myself? Ok then, TAKE and
prepare to block the fire attack, WHOOOOSH, there...now remember, I've
made that shield and while I was testing it, I found that it melts at a very high
temperature, so whatever you do...MOVE back after you block the 4th fire
attack, and remember to TAKE everything else. Now after we're done,
MOVE back twice...and no...we can't kill the dragon nor do I know how to
open that chest.

Now *Gulp*, we MOVE right into the room where there is a...shark, ok
we need to get the key from that skeleton, but how? Think fool, think
(referring to myself)....Ahaaa!, the sphere, it might freeze the water! let's USE
it on the pool. Heh, poor sharky....you must be feeling cold, heh heh, alright
let's get..I mean TAKE that damn Key 3 and.....let's not leave the sphere, but
it block by the sheet of ice....hmmm, how about we try to melt the ice a little
with the Torch (just....don't USE the Torch on the sphere please), ok so the
sphere floated to the surface. Great, Take the sphere and MOVE out of here!

Ok, let's MOVE to the door in the front, annnnnnd......my, what a creepy
room this is...and there seems to be six coffins (actually four...for our logic
anyway, the last two are a door on the left, and a coffin that doesn't seems to
open), let's OPEN the coffins from right to left, from the nearest to the farthest
1st coffin: ahhh....we got a mummy here and...it's basically dead....ummmm,
how about we burn it? let's see what happens then! Ok, so we burned this
toilet undead and....WOW...a scepter! Let's LOOK at it, indeed...it is for
a king!, now let's OPEN the next one....AAAHHHH!, a Banshee! (good
thing it doesn't kill you), now you can barely hear anything.....ON TO THE
NEXT ONE, OPEN the next coffin to find a bag and OPEN the bag to
find more bags to OPEN coppercoins, might not be much, but hey! free
money, so TAKE them. Ok, next....and here we......Ewwwww, it's slime
and it looks like it covered the whole way to the next door....great....Let's
just MOVE back twice now, then go to the secret passage.

More Torches, great....TAKE them, huh? you can't? why? well then
LOOK at them. Oh, it seems they're attached to the wall, well then.....try
USEing them....and it seems that the left one can move and it reveals a
hidden door, now MOVE int....wait, we forgot to TAKE the arrow (or
I forgot to take it). Anyway, MOVE forward and fall into the hidden door.

Now you've arrived before two bridges, one that is solid, and the other
that is in a poor state. Don't worry about any cheap tricks if you attempted
to cross the solid bridge except that 1 in 128 chance that the you will trip
and fall into the abyss, which is a lie
, so stay cool and MOVE into the stone
Bridge and Aaaaacccccckk!.....it's a wraith! Time for your first random
encounter.......oh come on why didn't anybody laugh at that?
USE the sword to attack him. Huh? you hit him and nothing happened?
That must be one weak sword you have, remind yourself to buy a better
OR bring a strong sword in the first place instead of being naked.
Quick! Talk your way out of it by SPEAKING to him....errr...I forgot to
mention that he doesn't understand English, perhaps if you could speak
Germany, he could understand you. But now...it seems there is one option
we haven't tried it yet, BURN THE WITCH! Starting with lighting the
Torch that is standing alone in the inventory (USE lit Torch on the lonely
Torch), careful now...don't let it drop...or it will fall to the ground then
bounce into the wraith, then explodes......that's actually good, ok then
drop it and watch him die. Now let's do what we were about to do
if he wasn't here, TAKE the Torches and the Cloak then MOVE into
the Front door, the door to the left is high so you will need a ladder.

Oh boy, this room must contain the loot! TAKE the Torch, Bottles,
the Scroll 1 (Now's not the time to explain that, later) and the Rope...
and for some reason....you can't TAKE the Rope.
Anyway, what's this word "EPOR"? is this even english? I hope so,
why don't we LOOK at it? no results? Hmmm, we should press "Start"
now and see the hint: "Some things require a second glance", hmmm, I
Think the designers mean that we should check the room again. Huh?
what's that graphical error over there? right there! at the end of the room!
Try to OPEN it....it worked...so it the designer were right! Ok, let's
MOVE on to the door in front of us.

Hmmm, a hole for a gem eh? well then let's try USEing Blue gem into
the hole, now the wall will move to reveal an image of a mage (an image
of a mage....more like that Warlock Lord), so the mage tells that the
Warlock Lord can only be defeated by forcing him to play action 52
the staff of ages, and he'll tell that you need to find five things, three for
the staff, one to be the key, and one to be the pathway. And with that
the stone slides back and Scroll 2 will appear, Take it then OPEN it, to
read stuff that you'll probably not pay any heed to it anyway?learn the
spell "Humana" basically it allows you turn invisible.....in one area only...
Anyway, MOVE back.

Now, we're back at this engrish word again. I wonder if the designer's
hint applies to this. Let's look at it again and....well...well...well, we've learned
a new spell "EPOR", let's try it out and......it magically make the un-TAKE-ble
rope move! Now I wonder...wait just a sec.....*face palm me* "EPOR" is
actually rope spelled backward! I feel stupid now....anyway MOVE up, into
the hole to get a chance to win yourself a bridge! All you have to do is to break
the right mirror USEing the hammer, now which one shall it be? Let's make it
easier for you, the right mirror leads to the outer space, now which one shall it
be? Remember, the answer is to LOOK at them.....yep.....that's right...the
answer is the middle mirror (try breaking the left one, please), congratulations!
and don't forget to TAKE the Torches and the Broom....Now, use Key 3
on the door, also USE the Cloak on yourself and MOVE to the front door.

The Early part ends here, Horray!

***** Mid Part *****

Note on Mid Part to end of the game: Ok, if I keep joking like how I joked in
the previous part, I might never finish this walkthrough, so I'll be less talky.
Also now there are many ways to die by simply MOVEing into them, try to
find them all.

We've arrived to the bridge (and no that's not your prized bridge, it's
in the next room with an intense flame underneath it. We really need to
cool this thing so we don't get roasted...so let's MOVE to the front door
try USEing our coldest item (in this case the sphere) on the flames. Alright,
now that things have cooled down we can MOVE to the door in front of us.

Now there is your prized bridge, it simply doesn't do anything...just allow
you to cross to the other side of the place, anyway....just MOVE to the front
and...What? A troll appeared from under the bridge and says that it's his
bridge? and in order for you to cross it you need to pay a gold coin? What
nerves! If I were you, I would USE the Hammer to teach him a lesson Spear
at him, and watch him fall (but no thud sound), serves him right! Now you
have your bridge back, continue MOVEing to the front.

A Cyclops is blocking your way! He's armed AND skilled so attempting
to engage melee combat with him is a bad idea, let's stick with a ranged
weapon...that is....a Sling....why isn't there a bow in this game? At least
Cyclops have one eye therefore we need to shoot at his only eye, now
USE the perfectly round stone in the Sling to load it, then USE it at his
eye to have an unknown magic take over you and release it for a Bull's
Eye! Wait, don't MOVE now....the cyclops may be blind but that will
change if you MOVE to another room, "Finish Him" by USEing the sword
to end his life (and be sure to LOOK at him after your done). Now
before we MOVE, we have a well unchecked, to let's USE the lever
and OPEN the bucket (wait, wasn't that suppose to be LOOK?), and
TAKE the Gauntlet, now you can MOVE forward.

Another Torch, TAKE it. Now let's see, we have three rooms to enter,
let's MOVE to the nearest one. Now that you're in the room, TAKE the
Skull and the Book...and the Map (no, it doesn't display the castle's map).
That Book you have is very scrambled and the only way to read it is by
wearing a glasses with cracks on specific location (wait, doesn't that
means that ours vision will be....), where can you find such glasses? Why
OPEN the on the right, TAKE it (along with Key 5 and scroll 3 and
scroll 4). Now USE that on yourself, now to can OPEN and read the
book to learn the spell "Motari Riseth", it allows to...uhhh...form a bridge..
somewhere....Anway, USE the Red gem on the hole to reveal a hidden
passage (and don't forget to OPEN scroll 3 and scroll 4 to learn "Terra
Terrakk" and "Instantum Illumina"). Now MOVE into the secret passage.

Now, I want you to SPEAK the spell "Terra Terrakk" to....crack the
globe, anyway OPEN the globe and TAKE Key 6 and Bottle 5, and
TAKE everything else in the room and MOVE into the window....yes,
that is possible back twice. Now that we finished the first path, let's
MOVE to the second one.

Oh boy, there are many bottles here, TAKE them all, but be careful
not to OPEN the steel cage or USE the green pot on yourself. Now,
do you notice anything strange? any GRAPHICAL error? no? well then
look closely at the floor, you'll notice that there is a button. Now USE it
and Holy water will appear before you! TAKE it, and MOVE on to the
right door.

Hey Hey, stop it now.....just because you feel thirsty it doesn't mean
you drink directly from the fountain, have anyone told you to LOOK at
what are you about to drink? Then do it! Then you'll realize that I saved
your life, the fountain is acidic! Good thing you got an acid-proof Gauntlet,
now USE it on yourself and TAKE that Flute, now USE it to....make the
one ring appear, now TAKE it and MOVE back twice.

Now that we finished both of the left paths, MOVE on to the front
door. What a large carpet! it's covering quite a lot, let's burn it....then it
will reveal Key 4, TAKE it, and the Mirror and the Crest. Now, USE
Keys from 4-6 on these door until you unlock them all, then MOVE on
to the right one.

Before you, lies Sphinx. Don't worry, it looks at us indifferently, so
we should both MOVE our way then.....that is until he opens his big mouth
and
gives us a riddle. Now look....depending on the riddle....the required
item will change, so here's what I got:

"You look at me, I look back, your right hand raises, I my left. You speak,
but I in vain.". Answer: Mirror

"Long neck, no hands, 100 legs, cannot stand. Born of a forest nest,
Against a wall I rest." Answer: Broom

"First burnt and beaten, drowned and pierced with nails, then stepped on
by long-faced animals." Answer: Horseshoe (or Hrseshoe)

"It has towns, but no houses. Forests, but no trees. Rivers, but no fish."
Answer: Map

"I've no eyes, bout once did see, thoughts had I, but now I'm white, and
empty." Answer: Skull

"I'm a Fire's Friend, My Body Swells With Wind. With My Nose I
Blow, How The Embers Glow." Answer: Bellows

After finishing his riddle, MOVE up the stairs. Now as you enter the
room, LOOK at the telescope and enjoy the view....errr, anyway,
TAKE the scroll, then OPEN it which doesn't give you any spell sadly.
Anyway, see that red and white thingy? you can TAKE it, and then
LOOK at it, you'll notice it is loose so HIT OPEN it and TAKE the
Rod, then MOVE the ladder.

Now before you, lies the most Ugliest Beautiful woman in the game,
and she is even more beautiful in the moonlight....too bad she's a
werewolf now....oh? you didn't know that? sorry for spoiling it....
well we both know that werewolves hate silver so our only silver
weapon is.....a sliver Arrow! At least she's a stationary target so if
you missed....well....you don't want that to happen do you? Anyway,
USE that Arrow on her and she will die....in wolf form...then take the
Blade and for some reason, burning the corpse will revive the wolf,
causeing him to kill you
 MOVE back thrice.

Now MOVE to the left door. Well well well, look at what we have
here...a Horn! let's TA-A-Aaaaaaaah! A hell hound appeared out of
nowhere! Quick, USE the Water on it and say "The power of Christ
compels you!"
, Now that it's over, TAKE the Horn (and be careful
not to MOVE into the window) and MOVE up the ladder to face
a Wyvern! Oh no....what to do? Man, it's getting dark here....wait a
minute, THAT'S IT! It's dark so there should some stars here, so
USE the star at him to add him to the new collection of the universe
(I don't know what am I talking about!), now that he's gone...it's safe
to TAKE the Tailsman, careful though...it's sharp! (and don't MOVE
off the ledge!). Now MOVE back twice then MOVE into the middle
door.

Great! two more Torches, TAKE them then MOVE to the left door
to step out into a balcony, now LOOK at that GRAPHICAL error,
it seems it's for a flagpole or something else.....well, why don't we
USE the Rod on it? Ok, now that the lightning have had it's fun with
the Rod, it repays us by making a skeleton hand appears right beneath
you! With a Wand! TAKE the Wand and the hand will lower down
and disappeared from your sight...anyway, MOVE on to the left.

Now, OPEN the cake on the right bag on the left and TAKE the
Big coin and the Gold coins, now MOVE waaaay back, all the way
to the two bridges, one that is solid, and the other that is in a poor
state, remember? Oh, and don't forget to go down in the hole in the
mirror room, or else you'll get slimed!

Now that you're here, USE Bottle 2 on yourself to lose some
weight (this was ganna replace our diet....if the effect didn't stop
every 30 seconds), now your weightless form will not break the
that wrecked bridge, so MOVE into the right path to encounter a
deadly snake! It's huge and mighty and....why don't you LOOK at
it? it's a statue for god's sake! Anyway remember that wand you
got earlier? LOOK at it....now you know what to do right? USE
at the snake statue, then it will transform into a staff! TAKE then
MOVE back to where we were (oh and SPEAK "Humana" if the
troll is still alive).

Now MOVE to the right to the that some unknown dead king.
Say, we don't we mock him and USE a scepter on him? now
after you USE it on him, a wall will slide revealing a ring hole.
Now USE the one ring at it and the throne will reveal a secret
passage, MOVE into it and WOW.....four Torches? TAKE them
then MOVE to the front (MOVE to the left for some amusement).

See these bunnies over there? They are gargoyles! (and according
to the TV show gargoyles, they are females), they will attack you if
you MOVE to the front without SPEAKing the spell "Illumina". But
we don't need to go there now, so MOVE to the right to find
yourself in huge field of lave, SPEAK "Matori" to cause the statue
to descend and a bridge to rise. Then MOVE forward.

Now, did you wonder what was those strange marks at the sphinx
room? well they are the solution to this lever puzzle, let me refresh it
to you, USE right....middle....right to make the cylinder reveal an Orb.
TAKE the Orb then MOVE into the hole back twice. Now is the
good time to SPEAK "Illumina" and MOVE forward.

The Middle part ends here, almost there!

***** End Part *****

Now you have completed more than 90% of the game, just a little
and you'll face the Warlock Lord!:

As you enter this room you'll notice pretty soon that the door is
locked with no way to unlock it, so let's focus in the well. Now USE
the lever, then USE the Big coin on the well for a good luck, MOVE
into the well, then you'll find that are facing the river of Styx. Since
there is nothing to do here except that there is large metal thingy, we
could USE that mallet to on it, then a ferryman from castlevania 2
appears. And by the looks of it....he seems that he wants something,
give him a Gold coin....that will do, now MOVE into the raft.

Now....OPEN scroll 1 and read what it says: "Five to find, three
are one. One gives access, the Bladed Sun. The Silver Orb, to
banish below. The Staff of Ages, to vanquish the foe. Joining two,
the Golden Blade. The last to invoke, the Platinum Horn.".
Hmmm.....it seems you don't get it do you? alright, just USE the
Tailsman on the hole that is under the sword sign, then USE the
Horn, then the gate to the final battle will open....Now MOVE
inside.

Oh god....that Warlock Lord did it! HE SUMMONED
BEHEMOTH, but fear not...we got Action 52 here all the items
required to defeat it. Just USE the Blade on the Staff then USE
the Orb on the Staff, now USE the Staff on the mighty Behemoth
and watch him as he groans in agony and TAKEs the Warlock
Lord with
him to make him play Action 52 for eternity.....I kinda feel
bad for
him
now.

Congratulations, you have have beaten Shadowgate, I do hope
you haven't used this walkthrough for the entire game, right?
First of all, I'm kinda surprised that although many people in vizzed board knows about shadowgate (ok...not THAT many), there hasn't been any walkthrough for it yet, so I decided to fill up the missing space here....anyway let's begin:

Contents of the guide:

1- What is shadowgate?
2- Tips
3- Fake FAQ (yes, it lists the questions that I predict your going to ask....so it isn't accurate)

* 2- Tips*

* 3- Fake FAQ ?*

* 4- The walkthrough *

Lord with
him to make him play Action 52 for eternity.....I kinda feel
bad for
him
now.

Congratulations, you have have beaten Shadowgate, I do hope
you haven't used this walkthrough for the entire game, right?

saldek : I noticed your walk through from your application for becoming a walk through maker. I have a few things I'd like to share with you so consider these words of encouragement to help you grow as a potential walk through maker. Some of it is constructive criticism so take these words as suggestions to help you improve.

First Thoughts
I don't understand the purpose of the question marks that run down the side of the text. It looks like it works much like numbers/bullets to highlight each part of the game but that makes me wonder why not just use numbers or bullets? To me, it's easier to follow numbers or bullets as I read down the text. My second first thought has to do with your paragraphs. Why don't you just let the text run the length of the page?? Your first three parts seem to run the length of the page but your actual walk through does not. It's really weird to me not to keep your entire post uniform with all the text. You just drag out the length of your post when it looks like it should be short and sweet.

Second Thoughts
There is only 1 thing I actually liked about your walk through. The only thing I liked about it is your first 3 parts; Tips, FAQ and Explanation of Shadowgate. Everything else just feels wrong. The reason why I say this is due to half of your walk through being made up of reaction. You lack a great bit of detail while you have an overwhelming amount of reaction to everything. This walk through can be cut down from by half just by eliminating all the things that are not needed in here. I do like a walk through with a little humor or a little character but none of it is funny and its too much character.

I recommend you read through some of the walk through found on here to see other member's work. Some are good and some are bad. If you want yours to stand out, I recommend having a little bit of character, use color to highlight your different parts and list as many details about the game as you possibly can. Walk through should be built with a tremendous amount detail. Details should be the most overwhelming aspect of your guide. Players don't read through our walk through to see what other people think about the game. The main reason why they read a walk through is to get through challenging parts of the game. From the looks of your guide, this game seems to be quite short. Your reactions were the only thing making this guide longer and longer than it should have been.

Here is a link to a guide I created for Banjo Kazooie of the N64:?https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=61873

My guide is colored and straight to the point with incredible accuracy and detail. The colors highlight each specific feature the game has to offer so that players in need of something specific can easily browse through the guide and find their part they're stuck at. Details explain each part and there isn't much if any reaction in my entire post. My guide is built so that gamers can quickly locate everything they are looking for. You don't have to model your walk through after mine, but it can help encourage you to find your own variation of character and detail that works smoothly and flawlessly. Keep at it and you can make good guides.

Good luck.
saldek : I noticed your walk through from your application for becoming a walk through maker.

Good luck.

Fireproof :
To the first thoughts: Huh? what? I didn't wrote this!!!! I just pressed "TAB"! It displays an empty space to me when I was writing....., I guess now that I noticed them, I should remove them.

To the second-first and second thoughts: This is after all, my first walkthrough....so yeah I may mess up with things. Also, Shadowgate IS a really a short game, in fact....you can finish it in less than 15 mins, AND I could have done this all in less than 1500 words. It IS correct for a walkthrough to be just about helping people to get through challenging parts of the game, I find this to be a little boring....well for me...so that's why I'm trying to add some humor in here (I have to admit my humor here was terrible) and try to entertain the players......somehow.

But I wasn't planning to make this a straight, serious walkthrough, I was planning to make this a half-serious. But my initial attempts are worse mind you, I was initially attempting to make this a trollish walkthrough that gives players wrong solutions that kills them and all in one paragraph so the only way to finish get through it is to read every word till they find what they want (or watch a walkthrough in youtube).

But then again, thanks for your suggestion.

EDIT: My God! Where did all those question mark came from? it seems every time that I pressed enter seems to create a question mark that doesn't appear until I post! Oh and some jokes I said in the walkthrough are actually valid as they tell the player about the death scenes, like.....there is a place where you are in a balcony and there is a bag on the left and a box on the right, and the box looks like a cake and it's a trap...so when I said OPEN the cake on the right I meant to to tell the player that there is a death scene and how can he access it.

saldek : There;s nothing wrong to add humor, it's a good idea to be somewhat humorous because it becomes easier to read overall. I tend to think players use a walk through as a last resort to completing difficult parts of a game so they might be frustrated, upset, angry, etc. I get this way when I've tried everything and I've reached my boiling point. When I want to get to the bottom of the problem I'd rather just read the guide through the point which helps me and be done with it. Not everyone is the same and it's good to have a variety of different walk through because other players might like your sense of humor more than my down right seriousness.

For a first walk through, you did right. If you continue to show interest and always work to improve your work, it'll shine. I recommend reviewing your post after you've made it. Anything from all your text being incorrectly colored to random ? appearing to your text moving to one side of the post can be some of the hidden challenges Vizzed may offer xD.
