Alright, so let me explain in a little detail what I'm even doing. So basically I've been playing the game for a while, and as most of you who know anything about fighting games know every character has their own play style based on how their attacks work and what not. Basically I'm going over my personal experiences with these characters, my thoughts on how they work and all that, either way I should probably just get to it and not drag this out longer than I need to.

I'm going to start off with my best and probably favorite character Link:

While arguably (Okay, honestly Fox has this game dominated if you can play him right.) not the best character, he's my best, I have more experience playing him than any other character in any fighting game probably. Anyway, Link has a large amount of versatility while over all he's a rushdown/ footies style fighter. He can use his tools such as his boomerang or his bomb to create an opening to rush in and punish the enemy (5B > Dashing 6A is a great example of one of his combo's spawned from his boomerang.) Link usually has some way he can punish the enemy even though he's not the speediest close range fighter on the cast, over all he can still hold his own and usually has something to keep him in the fight. (Whew does he have some great damage with his close range attacks, might not be a Captain Falcon or DK but his over all DPS is great, I recommend him personally.)

However his lack of attack speed and range can become a problem at times, if you play him be sure to make sure you have the upper hand before recklessly attacking the opponent, otherwise you can be punished with a smash from certain characters which can mean a KO depending on the stage, your positioning and your damage. (And oh god his grab is dreadful on miss, he uses his hookshot for one of the ranged grabs in the game.. Not a good thing to miss with because it leaves you wide open for punishment, I would only use it as a last resort if I were you.)

Overall Link is a force to be reckoned with in the right hands and is easily one of the best characters in the game if you were to ask my opinion, however like every character he has his pros and cons, just make sure you pay attention to them and keep your mind in the right place, otherwise you can lose the upperhand in a heart beat against harder opponents.

Fox: Fox is speedy, strong, has a wicked good grab, and is hard as a rock when it comes to knocking him off screen. He is without a doubt the best character in the game (I will even admit he's crazy OP in comparison to the other characters, however I can't really play him well at all so I just don't bother.) he even has a reflector shield which will reflect all those projectiles back in whatever direction that came from or can be used as an iffy DP if you need it seeing that it'll send enemies backwards on start up.

Fox's grab has crazy fast recovery, just try to hit him after he misses with it, just not happening, he can roll away too quickly and counter with another grab after you open yourself up to a miss, on top of that nearly all of his close range attacks can be combo'd off of if you know how, not to mention are quicker than should be. That being said he isn't without his weaknesses, but they are few and I can barely go into detail, just remember to be on your toes against him, otherwise you're down and out.

Mario & Luigi: Mario is a balanced character over all, makes a good lead for the cast, he's got a decent projectile for closing in even, and he has several reliable attacks for once you get in close with the enemy. However he's not the fastest or the strongest, however where he lacks in one area of strength he makes up for in another, for such is the power of balanced characters. (Luigi is practically Mario with stronger statistics, higher jump, more damaging attacks etc.)

He suffers some of the same weaknesses as Link such as low recovery speed attacks and all that, still though he makes a decent character due to the balance his statistics hold, especially in team battles, where he can make a reliable and versatile fighter easily swapping between front man and back-up.

Ness: Ness is eh... He's rather slow for a character in my opinion, but he has some great spacing and zoning tools if you know how to use them, plus he can use some enemy projectiles to heal himself which can be helpful if not countered due to the barriers slow mechanics and recovery.

However if you're familiar with how to play him he can be a great character, close range and long range, you just have to be used to "the feel" of the character, give it a little practice and you'll have a great support character for team battles and a pretty decent stand alone character. However be careful of rush down characters smashing through your defenses and punishing you in close range, but this happens with any real zoning character, just be sure to know your strengths and weaknesses.

Samus: Samus is a balanced zoning/ footies character from my experience, she does well to stick back and charge up while countering anyone who tries to get in close, if she does this simple strategy well enough she can demolish most characters easily. The down side is that her close range skills are sub-par even though she is still a force to be reckoned with, she isn't the best and many of her attacks leave her open if used poorly, however if she hits someone who has medium to heavy damage with a fully charged blaster shot she'll have an almost guaranteed KO on most characters. (Not, she also has a ranged grab almost identical to Link's.)

kirby : Kirby is a feather weight, he is easily knocked around but acts almost like a balloon, he has some great vertical recovery and can practically fly (For a short distance.) from platform to platform. He hits pretty well in close up and deals average damage with most attacks and has the nifty ability to steal other characters 5B attacks after catching them with his own.

Yoshi: Not much I can say about him honestly, thanks to the fact the only place you really fight against him is in the team battle where they die as quickly as they spawn (At least in my case.) and I've never had the interest to play him, I apologize. However he has a ranged grab and some decent close range attacks used for closing distance, and a fairly good double jump as I think he lacks the ability to use a special attack to jump higher. Play style reminds me of Yoshi story which I believe his character is supposed to be based off of.

Donkey Kong: Fear the DK punch as it shall be the last thing you see due to your face imploding after witnessing such raw power! Anyway, he has some amazing close range attacks that will knock you from one side of the map to the other, plus he's a pain to knock off due to his weight, and crazy horizontal recover. However his disadvantage would probably be his speed which is rather lacking in most cases, he ends up using specials to close the distance which ends up having him painful countered in the air.

There is of course the other method of sitting back and charging up the "DK (DJ would be better.) punch" and slamming opponents with a fully charged DK punch. This is a great strategy for Team battles making him a reliable second man in a team battle letting some close range character do the damaging and finishing the enemies off with a couple DK punches, simple and clean strategy very similar to Samus's charge blast.

Captain Falcon: Gheez, this guy... Eh, he's got some great speedy attacks, however his real strength lies within his specials which comprise of: the fan named "Falcon kiss" which resembles him kissing the opponent and then jumping away in an explosive kick, the "Falcon punch" which must be charged up on spot, resembles the DK punch and lastly my favorite of the bunch the Falcon kick which is a green move for closing the distance and gaining some decent damage, the air version of this attack comes in at an angle which can prove very handy in many situations, however these special attacks commonly leave C. Falcon wide open for counters so use them sparingly and wisely, otherwise you can expect major punishment from enemies, even a fatal smash at longer distances.

pikachu : Pikachu has some great projectiles and some rather decent close range attacks. Not to mention his absolutely spam-able 2B (Almighty Zeus, hear my call and smite my enemies!) He has some decent attacks but his 8B can really come to bite him if used poorly. (Oh man the poor AI on this, I'm sorry but Pikachu's AI fails so much on his own stage it's just sad really.)

Over all a decent character, not much to say though, never really played him, seems to have potential and good zoning skills.

Jiggly Puff: Eh, decent support character I guess, acts just like Kirby when it comes to how she gets knocked around or flies. She has a couple decent attacks from what I recall as well which can put her in an amazing position to punish enemies, sadly however through lack of interest and her existence in single player mode there isn't much I can tell you about her.

That raps this up if I'm not missing anyone, I hope you've enjoyed it and all, and if you enjoy the game or play it this should have some helpful advice if you have any clue what I was trying to say here. BlazBlue would be so much easier to explain though. Anyway, enjoy. (Or don't, I won't make you.)

Wonderful thread ^-^ I'm a consistent Smash player myself and it's nice to see people who have as much interest in the game as I do.

If you intend to get more into the games and maybe get competitive and stuff, I suggest you go here. This is pretty much the Smasher's haven. All the competitive players are here, you can find streams to watch, threads for your favorite character, whatever.

Keep playing Smash ^-^ It's some of the most fun you can have with a fighting game. I encourage you to keep getting more into the mechanics and the techniques and stuff. There's a lotta fun stuff to learn.

Good analysis of characters.

My two favorite characters are DK and Kirby. I normally use DK to go through the single player campaign mode because he's able to move around while carrying people. If you use the grab and throw technique throughout all battles (except for the master hand) you get super high points.

In vs. mode I usually use Kirby. I've mastered the art of using his fast kick attack (control stick then a) constantly to where whoever I'm going after can't recover fast enough. In addition if knocked outside of the play area he can easily get back if you carefully time when to hit the top c button. Jigglypuff has the same technique, but she is easier to knock out to the edge than Kirby and can't float as well as Kirby can. I don't normally bother using Kirby's copy ability because I find that I do more damage using a combination of a fast kick along with carefully timed recovery should he get knocked out of the playing area (but not completely KO'd)
