So i had an idea of making a hack where the player is a policeman(or woman) in kanto... you start with a growlith and travel kanto and some of johto fighting crime... i would like it to   be sidequest heavy. So i am asking you guys to submit ideas of some quests the policeman can help citizens with. Write as detailed as you like. Give good reward suggestions or hoever much info you can think up. Ill see where the sidequests fit or how i can turn   em into a main story (i dont wanna do the E4 and gym thing again)

Any ideas will be very apreciated.

Well, I'm sure you'll be doing a lot of the Team Rocket quests. You probably could add in a few more during the normal course of the game.

Red and Blue could already be on their journey, and team rocket steals the final pokemon left at oak's lab. Oak asks you to save it (could be your starting quest) and if you save it, Oak will let you have it as thanks since it's going to a good home. I imagine it to be bulbasaur, since red should have charmander and blue should have squirtle, but that's just my opinion.

You could possibly run into Red and Blue among their journey for optional battles (prompts with yes/no battles) while you are traveling. Maybe get to hear their story from them, or at least blue. Red could be silent with little message boxes saying (It looks like he would like to challenge you to a battle. Would you like to accept?)

I saw this in another hack, but team rocket could attempt to rob the pewter museum with main character thwarting it. Team Rocket could be after the fossils in there in hopes they can restore them somehow.

In Viridian Forest, maybe you could help a bug catcher out by raising one of their pokemon to butterfree/beedrill. This isn't so much an officer quest as it is a general sidequest. You can either be a bad cop and take the pokemon or return it for a reward with a pokemon egg which contains a special rare bug type pokemon. (If you are doing more than kanto pokemon in this version, maybe a johto or hohenn pokemon, like heracross or nincada. If kanto only, something like Venonat, Pinsir, or Scyther) Or make it a repeatable quest for pokeballs or something.

South of cerulean at the daycare center, the man there could have had pokemon he was looking after stolen from him. Leads into a a search around cerulean for clues. Have to talk to trainers (maybe previously beaten, maybe not, depending how travel is for the officer) to get hints on where to find it. Should lead you up to the north cape towards bill's house, or in it if you feel like it, where the rocket or generic thief shall appear. It should only show up if you get enough trainer clues to lead you there (so no sequence breaking).

wow thanks guys, those are some neat ideas... i had already planned on the oak sidequest tho lol. Im thinking of removing all pokeballs in the game... as a police officer you can only get pokemon from the traning facility. But sidequests unlock pokemon in the training area. So after completing the oak quest maybe u can catch bulbasaur (or all the starters) in the in the training area.

Also as you progress in rank (instead of gym badges) you gain access to more areas in the training area... so you may not be able to catch bulbasaur yet because he is unlocked in an area that you dont have enough rank to enter...

Itll be a huge dynamic area, always changing based on what you have done in game...

Each area will have several sidequests, and after you have completed half of them, you get a call about a major quest. After the major quest you get promoted and sent to a new area... repeat x8

So you dont have to do all the sidequests. Which means you may not have access to bulbasaur even if you beat the game (if you did not do oaks sidequest)... this makes each persons experience different, depending on which sidequests they choose to do (or just do em all).

There will be no pokedex... police officers dont need to catch em all

deg2000 : lol you CAN get em all... ud have to complete all of the sidequeats that unlock pokes and keep returning to the training area... u just wont have a pokedex to track them.

While I have a looong way to go, Here is a teaser for the hack:

I would love to play this.

Here's an idea, why don't you make a story of police officers joining Team rocket and you have to fight your own people.

This seems cool.

An idea I had would be to basically be able to earn poke dollars or other rewards (like tms perhaps) by doing jobs which include taking down tough bad guys kind of like a bounty hunter system if possible. I think it would be a nice way to earn some cool rewards. And as you take down more bad guys you would be able to take on more tougher ones and in return get better rewards (perhaps make the final reward some kind of exclusive reward).

Zlinqx : Not a bad idea! Could be similar to Final Fantasy 12's bounty hunts that unlocks tougher bounties as the officer ranks up!

Some other officer missions I had in mind:

In the rock tunnel, there could be a report of exploding graveler (they don't normally learn it at that point yet, but could be special overworld ones instead of wild ones that the officer has to find) making travel through there extremely dangerous for travelers! The officer's job ends up having to calm down said graveler, perhaps finding the reason why they are there and so agitated (team rocket, poachers, a bad trainer... take your pick!). You could probably space out the overworld graveler, putting one in each floor (maybe more than one in bigger floors, or at the end).

The S.S. Anne probably already has an easy mission dealing with Team Rocket on board or something, but just in case you don't have an idea with it... A simple mission could be finding the stowaway, which means having to go through all the rooms, maybe work with Looker/the international agent npc to find clues. And of course, you can't correctly find the stowaway without talking to everyone/certain npcs.

You probably already thought of this, but the "ranks" for the officer could be based on the badge system used for gyms. That way, it makes more sense if you are authorized to use HM moves like Cut, Flash, Strength, and so on. You know, a funny thing you could do is get a pokemon that can learn all those HMs (Mew for instance, but there are others in the other generations) given to the officer, but it'll NEVER listen in battle (it's only for outside battle), and it can't even be used as a meat shield in battle because it can't level, as has its stats hacked to 1 in everything. Maybe zero health if that doesn't cause glitches, and level 100 so it's always in a fainted state. To get that sort of pokemon, though, would need to require a special mission, though.

The game could end where the officer has to go to the elite four still, since a thief/mad scientist/team rocket/insert villain here has stolen the elite four's pokemon using some sort of brainwashing machine. Probably will require some foreshadowing, but lets there be a way for the officer to fight really tough pokemon towards the end. Heck, the doors that close behind you in the elite four could be a way for the evil person to "trap" the officer.

Also, if you aren't going to use a pokedex, I imagine that means you will be only including the original 151 pokemon in this hack (or less). I found in other hacks that if you do not have at least a national dex or something, non-native pokemon to that game cannot evolve. You could probably find a way around that (hacking it in, only feature non-natives that don't evolve), but I'm guessing you are still sticking to the originals. (Still, it'd be nice to evolve some like Golbat into Crobat).

I also hope you don't allow legendary pokemon to be obtained by the officer. Doesn't seem to make much sense for the officer to have one (or for it to be offered at the training center). Sure, the officer could have some "protect the legendary pokemon" missions, or maybe having a fetch quest to get medicine for them or something, but what officer would have legendary pokemon backing them up?

Also, while I do like Growlithe, I hope it's not the only starter an officer could get. If you go for multiple generations, you could have a choice of like Growlithe, Houndour (or maybe Snubble or Poochyena is better), or Electrike (all dogs/dog-like)! If you use just kanto pokemon, it might make best sense to just use Growlithe, though. I mean, I thought of like Growlithe, Meowth, or Farfetch'd (Dog, Cat, Bird), but of the three, Growlithe is a much better pokemon. Not unless you included rarer pokemon, like maybe Mr. Mime, Scyther, Jynx, and such, but they don't seem like an officer's partner pokemon.

Or you could google search dog pokemon (if multiple generations are in this) to get an idea of some starters.

I'll post more ideas as I get them.

actually giving graveler the move explode early is not easy unless i do it for ALL graveler... but making OW graveler that are exploding, clearing out areas of the map would be easier. its a good idea, it could be a rather long sidequest.

I planned to do something with the S>S>Anne but idk what... a stowaway is not bad... but since there was already an agent on the boat i had planned to do something with team rocket... that will be the mission that gets you promoted.

Yes the ranks are going to directly replace the badges (even the badge sprites on the trainer card) so they will also handle HM use. im not sure I like the idea of having an HM slave that cant be used in battle... (surf and fly are awesome) but the idea of giving the player a pokemon that will never listen is great...  in most of my hacks, i make farfeched able to use fly, cut, and flash (a good hm slave) and if I replace the mew byte with farfeched I can make him never listen (as mew does) and if the player is given the farfetched during an event and he never listens due to some story thing... thatd be a good quest... I just dont know who could give him (a civilian, or the police force) or why...
It may be possible for me to allow farfetched to listen during another quest or after a certain ammount of time or something. ill have to learn to change bytes around. it may be possible, it may not. well see

I plan to do several events around the pokemon league gym leaders, and possibly the E4... idk what yet tho. maybe some have had their pokemon stolen, maybe others need help running bad guys out of town... or whatever...

I would prefer just 151 pokemons... its just how I like kanto to be
i also agree that the player should not be using legendaries. but I will have sidequests around them...
and I had planned on making the starter ONLY growlithe... but you would catch your growlithe in a safari zone style event so the player could pick boy or girl, or catch until they get a nice personality or whatever.

You should make him/her a ex-cop or something as far as I know cops don't travel much and the ones in the pokemon world tend to stay in 1 town or surrounding area.  but i agrees with that guy that said it should  be taking down team rocket that's a good one. as for side quests try  escort missions and action movie like ones. also maybe you could get pokemon from gifts as rewards for side quests? any who it sounds real cool hope to see it play lots of pokemon hacks remember keep it balanced that very important so many good  hacks ruined by being to hard.
