Today I am going to be reviewing a very popular video game. Today's game is Banjo Kazooie. I will be reviewing and critiquing this great game. So. let's get started.

Plot: 10?
The plot to this game is quite nice. It is a quite sunny day on Spiral Mountain, which is home to Banjo & Kazooie. Tooty, Banjo's younger sister is excited to be going on an adventure as soon as Banjo wakes up from his long nap. Meanwhile, on top of the mountain Grunty the evil witch is in her lair. She asks her pot, whose name is Ding Pot, a question. The question she asks is who is the prettiest and fairest of them all? Naturally, Ding Pot says while it is Grunty, any day. However, he says there is this young child named Tooty. The pot, tells Grunty that Tooty is young, sweet, kind and that Grunty would discover she is cute. This enrages the witch. She storms out of her room and plans to kidnap Tooty, and steal her beauty. The witch even has a machine that will steal Tooty's beauty and give it her. Tooty is talking to Bottles the mole, when Grunty swoops down and kidnaps her. Tooty puts up a fight, which alerts Kazooie. Kazooie, wakes Banjo up and they rush outside, but it is to late. Grunty challenges Banjo to come to her lair and rescue his sister. Bottles says he will teach the duo moves to help defeat the witch. Banjo & Kazooi set out on an adventure to rescue Banjo's sister as well as meeting friends along the way. However, Banjo soon discovers that going through Grunt's lair is not going to be easy.

Okay, I really liked the story of this game. I thought Rare was really getting creative in making up the story. Moreover, the plot introduced the characters and their personalities very well. Also, the plot is simple, players know from the start who the bad guys are as well as who the good guys are. I cannot think of many games that had a creative but simple plot. The Mega Man and Mario games have plots like that. I could also make an argument for Donkey Kong Country as well. Outside, of those games though you do not see many games that have a solid plot. Thus, I give the plot to this game a perfect 10 out of 10.

Graphics and Controls: 10?
What can I say, the graphics really blew me away in this game. The worlds are nice and colorful. The backgrounds are so amazing. The ice level looks like an actual winter wonderland. Not to mention, that world's Christmas theme was amazing. The swamp level, looks like an actual swamp on a hot muggy summer day. The forest level, looks like an actual forest. The graphics really shine in the forest level, because all 4 seasons are represented in that particular level. During winter snow will fall, which is a nice touch. The spring area of the forest level has rain falling from the sky. The summer area's graphics look like a hot dry summer day. Finally, fall in the forest level has different colors of leaves falling down. Moreover, the graphics really show what the Nintendo 64 was capable of at its peak. In addition, the sprints of this game are also amazing. The characters do not appear to be out whack, even when they change angles.

The controls in this game were so amazing. No matter, what moves the player does Banjo feels so smooth. I remember playing this game for the first time. I could not believe how smooth the controls were. Since, this was the first game in the Banjo series I thought there might be a few lags hear and there. I was wrong, they are no lags in this game. In my opinion games do not get much better than this on controls. Banjo and Kazooie actually rivals some of the best Mega Man games concerning controls. Therefore, I give the graphics and controls a perfect score.

Sound: 10
The sound of this game was also amazing. I cannot really think of any bad tune in this game at all. My favorite tunes to this game were the ocean, swamp, ice and forest levels. I found the music in this game to be catchy and relaxing. Great games should have that kind of music in them. Sometimes, I will just stand at the level's entrance listening to the music, it is that good. Also, the sound you hear when you get a jiggy is a nice touch as well. Moreover, the enemies sounds are kind of funny in this game. Some of the enemies will grunt when they see you. If you kill an enemy they moan and groan, which I find amusing. Banjo and Kazooie has awesome sounds to it. Based on that virtue I give the sound a solid 10 out of 10.

Addictiveness and Depth: 9?
Banjo and Kazooie can be addictive to play. I often play this game the most of all my Nintendo 64 games. What is there not to love in this game? The levels are fun to play through again even after beating the game or completing the level. In fact, a lot of the levels will need to revisited again and again to get all the items. I really like games that have a high replay value.

The depth of this game was also good. There are lots of items to collect in this game. First of all, the player will need to get all the jiggys in this game to get to battle Grunty. In addition, music notes will need to be collected to open up worlds. Moreover, every world has honey combs and other stuff to collect. So yeah, this game has a lot of depth to it.

Difficulty: 9
Banjo and Kazooie, can be a difficult game for several reasons. First of all, as I mentioned in the depth section you will need to get all notes and jiggys. Failure, to get notes or jiggys will result in you not being able to open up worlds to progress. I want to think if you do not get all the items you cannot even battle Grunty. Second, getting the items requires creativity and skills. The items are not usually in plain site; they require skills to get. In fact, some of them require you to beat the clock to get them, so that makes this game tough. In addition, the enemy placement in this game can be very bad especially in the later worlds. Starting, with the swamp world enemies will hit you from behind or just try to swarm you. You, can easily lose a lot of health in this game. Also some of the platforms are tiny so falling is almost a given in this game. Moreover, unlike the second game in the Banjo series, you have lives to lose in this game. If you lose all your lives in this game, it is game over. There are a few reasons why I did not give the difficulty a 10 in this game. The enemy placement can work against you, but you can use it to your advantage. Most of the time when you kill enemies they will drop energy in the shape of honey. So, use the numerous enemies to your advantage. Also, the enemies do not re-spawn so that is a good thing. However, if you leave the world then the enemies will be back. Also, the moves that Bottles teaches you will really help you so pay attention. So, this game is difficult but they try to help you out in a few ways. Still, this is a hard game and I give it a good rating of 9 out of 10.

Overall: 9.4?
I remember playing this game at my friend's house when I was in middle school and that was in 1999. Banjo & Kazooie came out in late 1998 I believe. I did not get a Nintendo 64 till 2010. I purchased the 64 system at a discount store I sometimes go too. Banjo & Kazooie was one of the first games I got. It turns out the discount store had a copy of this game. So, I was reliving my youth, I played this game a lot. Here it is 2014 and I still play this great game. I really liked this game it is one of my favorites. The plot, graphics and sound are all good. Also, this game has a lot of depth to it, and it challenges your skills to. I really like games that offer a challenge it just makes getting deep into the game special and an accomplishment. I will be honest I just love to play this game to get to my favorite levels in this game. Games, really do not get much better than this. In fact, the only other games that rank better than this one are some of the Mega Man games. I would rank Banjoy & Kazzoie in my top lists of favorite video games. I know it may be comparing apples to oranges. But, this game in my opinion is up there with Mega Man X2, X3, X6, 7, V, IX, 5, 4, and 3. I also think this game is up there with another game series made by Rare, and that is the Donkey Kong Country series. Therefore, would I recommend this game. By all means I recommend this game. If you are new to the Banjo and Kazooie series I highly recommend this to be the first game you played. If your looking for great things a great game has you will find it in this game. Thus, I give this game a very good rating of 9.4. If you haven't played this game yet, then I hope you will take the time too, and enjoy.
