If you are having nightmares, who you gonna call? Call Kirby as he has experience in dealing with nightmares. Kirby can help you get off to dreamland, without having to worry about nightmares . Okay in all seriousness, today I am going to be reviewing Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland. In this review I will be analyzing points to this game as well as offering my own critique of this game.

 Story (Plot): 9
If you have played previous Kirby games before, then this plot should sound familiar to you. Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland is a remake of Kirby's Adventure. Okay onto the plot now. Kirby notices that he cannot dream as well as fall asleep. He notices that the other residents cannot dream or sleep either. The residents of Dreamland often take naps to dream happy dreams. Kirby wonders to himself has something happened to the Fountain of Dreams? Kirby goes to the Fountain of Dreams and finds King Dedede swimming in the fountain's pool. In addition, Kirby notices the Star Rod missing, which it collects all the dreams. Kirby ask the king what has he done with the Star Rod? Dedede tells the young hero that he broke the rod into 7 pieces and gave 6 pieces to his friends. He starts to tell Kirby that there is a reason why he did it, but Kirby has none of it. Kirby sets out to reclaim the Star Rod unaware of the dangers he is getting into. I liked how Hal Labs in remaking this game did not change the plot. Often, companies will remake a game but change the plot. So, I was glad Hal Labs did not do that with this game. In Kirby's Adventure I liked the plot then and I like it now. There is a lot going on in this game's plot. You have mystery involved as to why did King Dedede steal the Star Rod? You also have creativity involved. In addition, there is suspense to this game. Such as, why did King Dedede steal the Star Rod and break it into 7 pieces? It makes the player think and ask questions. For example, is King Dedede really a bad guy or is he trying to protect the Fountain of Dreams from something else? I really liked this plot even if it is retold. Thus, I give the story to Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland a solid 9 out of 10.

Graphics: 9
In the original (Kirby's Adventure) game the graphics in that game were revolutionary at that time. Kirby's Adventure blew me away with its graphics, when it came out back in 1993/1994. Guess what, the graphics blow me away again. Kirby's Adventure was done on an 8 bit system. Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland was done on a 32 bit system. The graphics really show that to. The stages have more color than they did in the original game. The trees in the forests stages look like actual trees, which is nice. The water is crystal clear just like actual water. Moreover, the colors are more bright and really jump at you in this game compared to the original game. The sprints in Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland are improved from the original version. The enemies and characters have a more defined shape than they did in the original game. The controls remain unchanged. Kirby's controls are still very smooth and do not appear to be sluggish at all. In addition, there are no lags in this game, which is very nice. The only problem I have with this game is that Hal Labs changed some of the layouts to the stages. I was really hoping they would have kept the same layout, but oh well. Still, the graphics to this game are very nice. Thus, I give the graphics a solid 9 out of 10.

Sound: 10
Just like the original, the sound in this game is amazing. I really liked this game's soundtrack. Most of the tunes are very relaxing, which I enjoyed while playing this game. Kirby's has gotten more clearer sounds when he has a special weapon compared to the original game. The weapon sound's in this game are more smooth and clear than they were in the original game. The sounds of the weapons lets the player know that they have a powerful weapon on hand. The fire weapons still sound powerful. The ice weapons still have that crackle to them, which sounds like Ice does when it cracks. The enemy attacks are also more clear. The enemies sound more powerful when they attack than they did in the original game. Since this is a 32 bit game there are also no tingles in this game either. I also like how Kirby or Meta Knight still have that funny sound when they die. I have always liked that sound, I guess I just find it funny. The only minor issue I have with the sound, and it is not enough to drop the rating. Is that Hal Labs changed some of the music in world 4. I was really shocked that they did that. In the original game world 4 had a very nice calm tempo to it. I guess maybe Hal Labs was just trying to make it more appealing? They should have left the original music alone and remastered it. In most levels they did remaster the themes just not in world 4. But, like I said that is minor and the music they replaced that world's theme with is also nice. Thus, at the end of the day I give the sound of this game a perfect 10 out of 10.

Addictiveness: 9
Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland is just like the original. It has a high replay value in my book. There is a lot to do in this game. Hal Labs even threw in a few little surprises more on that in the depth section. I got this game when it first came out for the Game Boy Advanced that was over 10 years ago. Here it is 2014 and I still like to play this remastered classic.

Depth: 10
Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland really shines on its depth. There are several items to collect in this game. The player just like in the original will need to find switches to open more levels. In addition, there are several special powers to acquire in this game. Often I like to play the game with a certain special power, and see how far I can go with that power. However, Hal Labs threw in a few surprises in this game. The first being after you beat the game, you can play the game again on hard mode. Hard mode is a lot tougher as you only have 3 health bars instead of 6. If you manage to beat the game under hard mode you get to unlock another game. Beating the game on hard mode allows you to play as Meta Knight YES ! Being able to play as Meta Knight really adds depth to this game. I have always thought Meta Knight was an awesome character and that Hal should allow players to play through a game using him. I also like it how Hal Labs forces you to beat the game twice to unlock Meta Knight. It makes replaying the game again worth it. The original game had depth but its remake has more depth. Thus, what can I say this game has a perfect rating concerning depth.

Difficulty: 7
The difficulty of this game was hard for me to rate. The game has its problems and tricky spots. The stages that gave me the most trouble had lots of enemies in them. In fact, the enemy placement in this game can be tricky just like the original version. So  many times enemies will hit you from behind, corner you or drop down from the sky knocking you down into the pit. On the other hand, this game gives you several special weapons to deal with the enemy placement problem. Some of the bosses were hard and others not so much. The first two bosses are pretty easy but the others were more difficult. In fact, the ones after world 3 require skills and creativity to beat even with a special power. I really like games that offer a challenge, require skills, and creativity to master. What hurts this game though is some of the stages are easy. Not to mention the game did not get difficult for me until the 4th world and beyond. I did mention the enemy placement being a problem but like I stated this game gives you lots of weapons to deal with that. Therefore, playing on normal mode is difficult but not to bad. Now, if you are playing on hard mode than the difficulty rating becomes a 9 out of 10. On hard mode instead of having 6 bars of health the player only has 3. So that means, that you need to try not to get hit at all. Also on hard mode, items that restore your health such as soda's or tomatoes are harder to find. Moreover, if you are playing as Meta Knight than the difficulty becomes a 10 out of 10. Meta Knight cannot use special weapons as he uses his sword. So, that means enemies can hit you from behind. He is also fast but not as fast as Kirby so that can be challenging. Players who play as Meta Knight, once you unlock him, should be aware of one thing. Meta Knight only has 3 bars of health not 6. Thus the Meta Knight option is a challenge. Still I like playing as Meta Knight, he has always been a cool and mysterious character.

Overall: 9.1
Okay this was a good game and I enjoyed. But I did have a few issues I am now going to address. The first being changing the layout. Seriously, Hal Labs what were you thinking? I really liked the layouts in the original game they were nice and fun. Why did they have to change it. Most of the layouts were changed in world 4. I do not know why they changed the layout and I will be honest I do not like change. I thought the layouts in world 4 were very cool in the original game. I do not understand why Hal Labs could not have remastered them. After all they did it for the other worlds. In addition, why did Hal have to change the bonus games in this remake. The original game had bonus games, crane fever, catch the eggs and my favorite quick draw. The bonus games in this remake, are racing, and  samurai Kirby. I liked the bonus games in the original. I would have loved to have seen what the graphics would have been for the original bonus games. Okay I am done with the negatives so lets talk about the positives. I really liked this game. I thought the graphics and sound were nicely done and remastered well. Another think I liked was Kirby changes a little bit to reflect what special weapon he has. If he has the ice power, he turns blue and has an iceberg on top of his head. That was pretty cool, no pun intended . If he has a fire weapon than flames will be coming out of his ears, which is kind of funny. If he has the stone power he gets what looks to be a Roman helmet as a hat. I also like how you get to play as Meta Knight. In fact playing as Meta Knight is what motivates me to beat this game. So I can play as Meta Knight. I have always ,as I stated, liked Meta Knight. He is a cool, noble and loyal character. As for recommending this game. Yes I would recommend this game it is fun and if you get to unlock Meta Knight that is a huge bonus and worth beating the game again. However, I would also recommend that you play Kirby's Adventure first just to see how this game plays. After all it is a remake of that game. Hope you take the time to enjoy this remastered classic.
