Today I'm going to be reviewing a new Mega Man series and I'm going to use that term loosely more on that in the overall rating. Anyway, here is my review, so lets get started on reviewing Mega Man Legends.

Story: 9
The Earth, for whatever reason, has higher water levels and most of the people are now scattered on islands. To make electricity, requires refractors. Diggers are hired to search for the refractors that are not just needed to make electricity, but to also power machines. Pirates are a threat to Diggers as they try to steal the refractors to make money. The game starts off with the Bonnes. The Bonnes, are a family of pirates who raid ruins or steal from other diggers to make money. Tiesel Bonne tells his crew that they will be arriving at their destination Kattelox Island soon, and that he wants a flawless operation like the last one. Kattelox Island, is rumored to have a huge refractor of mythical proportions underneath it. However Kattelox is also rumored to have a curse that the Island gets destroyed ever few decades. Meanwhile Mega Man trigger is in a ruin digging for a refractor. He gets to the surface after battling a reaverbot (robots in ruins). Roll Mega Man's friend (they are not brother and sister in this game) picks him up. However, they start having engine trouble and land their ship on Kattelox Island. After awhile, Mega Man is given access to the island and the ruins. Due to Barrell Casket (Roll's Grand Farther) talking to the mayor as she was his former student. The Bonnes in the mean time attack Kattelox Island. It is up to Mega Man to protect the treasure from the Bonnes and to also find the truth about the legendary treasure as well as the curse. Does Kattelox Island have a curse and is the rumor of a great disaster true? Okay I really like the story I thought it was creative how Capcom introduced the characters in this game. The story line is kind of nice that it involves suspense and drama. I thought this was a good way to start the game.

Graphics: 8
The Graphics in this game were for the most part good. I thought the background was nicely done. The way the island looks as well as the water that surrounds it was a nice touch. The city looks like an actual city. I also thought the ruins were done nicely. The way the ruins are designed makes them look gloomy, which I guess they are supposed to be. The controls in this game were also very good. Mega Man's controls are very smooth and he does not appear to be sluggish. The sprints in this game are also good, the characters in this game actually look like real people. They do not seem to look fuzzy or anything like that at all. They were also no major lags in this game. However, they were a few minor problems with the graphics. The graphics were good but sometimes the background especially later reminds me of a tv with static lines across it. That only shows up for a few seconds and then it is is gone. Second, this game had some bugs or glitches in it. Sometimes they could be used to your advantage but other times they could get annoying. I was puzzled that there would be static and glitches in this game considering it was on the play station. That really surprised me but the graphics in this game were good. However, they could have been better though.

Sound: 9
I thought the sound was nicely done. A lot of the tunes are classical music like. My favorite tune in this game is the Uptown theme and the underground city themes. The underground themes have a little bit of a rock n'roll feel to them which is nice. The music in this game I find to be very relaxing. The sound Mega Man's weapons make were also nice. Some of his weapons sound so powerful when they hit an enemy. If they hit a robot you can tell they do damage because the robot make an explosion sound. Also it should be noted that the reaverbot sounds are nice too. A lot of them have explosive attacks some even stomp to let you know they are coming. The voices in this game were also nicely done. This game came out around the same time Mega Man 8 did. If anybody has played Mega Man 8 they know the voices in that game were bad. I was so glad that this game's voice acting was not like that. Now, there was a few times this game sounded like it had a few little tingles in it. I do not like tingles and even though they are minor that kept me from giving the rating of this game a perfect 10.

Addictiveness and Depth: 10
Legends has good replay value. I played this game a lot till Legends 2 came out. I really had fun playing this game. This game has so much depth to it. First of all, you have mini quests or missions you have to complete to get all the items. In fact, some of the missions have to be completed before you can move on to the next. There are several treasure chests to find in this game. The treasure chests often contain money or parts used to build weapons as well as other enhancements. Also the player will find there is lots of secrets to unlock in this game. In addition, lot of the ruins require revisiting to get all the items. Also the ruins will also need to be revisited to get money by blasting enemies. Also sometimes the towns people will send you on missions to look for things or get things they need. Furthermore, you can also unlock difficulty levels to this game by beating it; beat it on hard and it opens more difficulty levels. I had fun playing through the game again just to get a certain difficulty level. So, there is a lot going on in this game. I really like the depth in this game. I will go on and say any game that has depth to it has the makings to a good game. The depth also adds replay value.

Difficulty: 7
I really had a hard time rating the difficulty of this game. The main reason is because once you unlock all the difficulties you can chose your difficulty. Hard would have a difficulty rating of 9/10 (very difficult) and easy makes the game more like a 4 out of 10 (Moderate). But for the most part I am reviewing this game based on the default normal difficulty. This game does have some difficult spots. First being some of the reaverbots have very powerful attacks. Get hit a few times and its game over. This game does not have a life system so if you get killed its game over and you have to start at your last save point bugger. So often, it is easy to tackle a mission or enter a ruin and not be prepared for it. The game does not tell you what you need to win the battles or complete the missions. For a first time player it can be difficult. The pirates also have some devastating moves and its easy to get in a fight with them and not be ready as I mentioned. However this game gives you a way to upgrade your weapons. There is also no time limit in this game so if you need to get money; you can go back to the ruins and collect money from destroyed enemies. Also once you get some of the weapons this game pretty much is not too bad. In addition, you can also buy life ups to add health to your bar. You can also buy energy refills they work like E-tanks in this game. When I first played this game I thought it was tough I kept losing but once I got the hang of it the game was not that bad. Legends will also require skills and creativity to complete some of the missions and to win battles. I like games that require skill and creativity. I also like games that are difficult in that you do not know what to expect when going on missions. Thus, when I played this game I really was challenged and if you have not played this game be prepared to get challenged a little bit.

Overall: 9
Okay I'm going to critique this game. First of all this really is not a Mega Man game. I do not know why Capcom stuck Mega Man in the title. They should have just had the character called Trigger. Here is why this is not really a Mega Man game. Mega Man and Roll or not brother and sister. In the classic games Roll was Mega Man and Proto Man's sister in this series they are just friends. Also Mega Man and Roll are not robots in this game they are humans. Second there is no mention or reference to other Mega Man characters. X and Zero are not mentioned in this game. The only time Zero is referenced is on a poster that says this character looks like a legendary hero. There is also no reference to Dr Wily or Sigma. So I want to warn you if you think this is going to reference or be tied in to other Mega Man games like how the X series is closely related to the Mega Man series think again. Okay, now since we got the negative stuff out of the way onto the positives. Mega Man Legends is really a fun game put the stuff above aside and you have a good game. If you like solving problems, finding treasure and discovering new things then you have found a good game. There is also a bit of mystery here surrounding the main character Mega Man Trigger. Trigger as he is sometimes called has a strange past he doesn't remember it till late in the game when an event reminds him of his past. There is also mystery over the disaster. I really like games that have a mysterious feel to them. Also the other parts of the plot are revealed later in the game that can be good or bad depending on how you view it. Me personally I kind of like it. Legends has a lot to offer. Now some people were turned off from this series due to the things I mentioned above. I remember getting this game when it first came out which was around 1998 I think. I thought this might be tied into the X series somehow. I was wrong, but I did not let that ruin the game for me. The main point is that you are having fun while playing a game like this, which I was. Now Legends was the first game so there was a few issues with it. Legends 2 I thought was better than this one. But I give this game a solid 9.0 in game ratings. So the question is would I recommend this game. Yes I would recommend this game. It is fun to play and it is a good game. Just know that it is not a true Mega Man game. Still do not let that stop you from discovering a fun game line.
