Whats up Doc? Well, today I am going to be reviewing Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blow out. A game that was released in 1990 in celebration of Bug's 50th Birthday.

Story: 8
The story in this game is kind of funny. Bugs Bunny gets a letter from his adoring fans inviting him to his 50th birthday party they are throwing him. His Loony Toon pals find out about this and they are so mad. Wily E Coyote, Yosemite Sam, Sylvester and a lot of the others are outraged. They make the claim that Bugs gets so much attention. They are also furious because they have not been given parties or honor. Bug's pals plot to stop him from getting to the party. Bugs has to make his way to the party and go through his crazy pals. Okay the plot could have been better but it is not bad by no means. The plot is kind of funny. Not to mention, it seems to fit with the cartoons. If you remember the cartoons Bugs often had to deal with the same characters. The only one Bugs did not really deal with was Sylvester the cat. The maker of this games were trying to be creative after all it was Bug's birthday when this game came out. So I guess that is why they were wanting the plot to focus on that. I was hoping though the plot would have been more creative. But still a decent plot overall.

Graphics: 8
The Graphics in this game were pretty decent. The way the grass moves to the music is nice, plus the waterfalls look decent. To me they look like Super Mario Brothers 2 waterfalls. The fire stages look nice as well. The makers of this game did good in the forest levels as the graphics do look like trees, waterfalls, and other things you would find in a forest. The sprints could have been better though some of enemies do not look like they have good sprints. Some of the characters look like they could have better sprints such as Taz. The controls in this game are pretty decent. Bugs for the most part seems to be smooth. However, there are at times were this game seems to lag a little bit. The lags that I have noticed occurred in the later worlds. World 4 and 5 have lags in them. I guess it is because of the slow music in those stages. So while the graphics were good, the sprints could have been better, and the lagging is what keeps this rating from being higher. Since this is an 8 bit game I would suspect a little lagging. But the makers of this game should have taken lessons from Mega Man 3 and Super Mario Brothers 3 which came out in the same year. Both of those games were 8 bits but had very good graphics and no lags at all.

Sound: 8
The sound in this game is pretty good. The sound the enemies make sounds nice especially the exploding ones. The music for the most part is good. Each world has its own theme which is really nice. Moreover, each theme seems to fit the world the theme is used in nicely. However, in world 4 (creepy cave level) it seems like there is a tingle in the music. It kind of reminded me of Mega Man 1. I guess they were trying to make the music in that world seem slow and creepy to give the player a creepy feeling. But you can tell it could have been better. Maybe smooth Super Mario Brothers 2 or 3's creepy levels. I also feel like they could have done more with the bosses. In the cartoons when Bugs would win against his other pals they would moan and groan. The makes could have gotten creative and added some moans and groans to the bosses. I was hoping Yosemite Sam would groan or go ohhhhh like he did in the Cartoons. But aside from the negatives the sound track in this game was pretty decent for an 8 bit game.

 Addictiveness: 7
I enjoy playing this game simply because I like Loony Toons. This is a fun game to play and I have replayed it quite a few times. Now, is this on the level with Mega Man or Mario for me its not but when I want a break from those series I usually play this game. I wanted to give this game a higher rating but due to the game not having a lot of depth I did not feel like it deserved anything over an 8. On the other hand, this is a fun game and I enjoy playing it so it deserves a decent rating.

Depth: 6
Here is were the game suffers just a bit. This game is long with 6 levels each stage has 4 acts so it will take a while to beat. However, the depth of this game is not too big. The enemies are the same so aside from the bosses the player will see the same enemies through out the stages. There are only two bonus games line up stars in a row or whack a mole game. Also there are not that many secret areas in this game. I was hoping there would be more secret areas in this game, more enemies, and items to collect. The only times to collect are carrots which the player will need to play the bonus games so that counts for something. The carrots and long levels is what keeps the depth rating from being lower. I was hoping for more unique enemies, secret areas, and more items to collect. I sometimes wonder if maybe the makers of this game were not trying to get this game out fast. So based on the carrots and there being so many levels. I give the depth a middle of the range rating.

Difficulty: 6
Difficulty is were this game also suffers. I was hoping this game would be difficult and challenging because I am used to games like that (Mega Man and Mario games). Those games are the ones that test your skills and creativity to beat and it makes the games have high replay value. Now with that being said they are some tricky spots in this game. A few of the pits are hard to jump across and there are times were the enemy placement can be numerous especially if its enemies that shoot at you. However, I do not remember dying a lot in this game until the swinging vines in the haunted forest level, which is world 5. World 5 is were the game gets the most difficulty because of the falling branches, the swinging vines and enemy placement. Over than that the other levels aside from a few stages were not that hard. I mean I wanted to give this game a higher rating. I also expected more from this game on its challenges. So yeah it does have its tricky level and tricky hops as well as enemy placement but even then its not so bad. So middle of the road rating it gets.

Ending: 8
The ending of this game is funny. Basically Bugs makes it to the part and finds out that it was his pals that sent the letters out. They were pulling a prank on their old friend. Now that was kind of creative by the makers of this game. However it could have been a little more creative.

Overall; 8
This game is a good game and it is a decent game compared to over Loony Toons games. This one and Tiny Toons were the best ones. I have played other Loony Toons games and they are not the best. Rabbit Rampage was also decent but the others suffered from quality. I had fun playing this game. Despite this game's negatives that I pointed out, I think this game is decent. Now as I mentioned is it in the same league as Mega Man or Mario probably not. But I play this game when I want a break from the two series I mentioned. The only thing is I feel like at times this game was rushed. I wonder if the makers of this game were trying to get it out quick to compete with Mega Man 3 and Super Mario Brothers 3, which those two games would be huge hits selling several million copies). I also wander if because it was Bugs' Birthday year that is why it  might have also been rushed. This game was good but it could have been much better. Had there been more items to collect, more secret areas and a lot more challenging this game would have been higher and in the league of the two super hits that came out the same year. Still, this is a decent game and one I would recommend if anything just because it is something different. I got this game at a discount store and I played it then. I still like to play this game even today.
