I remember Spider-Man like it was yesterday. I can't exactly say when I really bought the game, but this game had a HUGE chunk of my childhood back when it was at its peak. There were two versions of it, the N64 release, and the PS1 release, which I believe doesn't change the game much, besides the process power. I could be wrong, though, it could be exactly the same game. Anyway, if I had a dollar every time I played this, I'd be richer than Bill Gates. (Give or take, he is pretty rich.) This game brought my curiosity to heroes in general, along with Spidey. But let's get going on the breakdown on the game itself.

Difficulty: 6
Breaking down the way it's tough, it's a straight forward adventure game with no real "puzzles" that would require difficult skills. The main difficulty is the settings itself, which sets to "Kid Mode", to Hard. Kid Mode is pretty much "Very Easy" in some games out there, and then it goes the traditional Easy, Normal, and Hard lists, which everyone can guess how they vary. The levels themselves aren't anything special when it comes to difficulty, straight forward game that sometimes "Get from Point A to Point B", to "Get to Point B before time runs out" to "Run from *insert threat attacking Spidey here*. The bosses themselves aren't too hard, depending on the difficulty set. Sometimes you'll have to think about the attack pattern, to you'll beat the ever-loving snot out of them. Sometimes in some areas, there are actually Environment attacks you can use, like Rhino's match with Electric beams, to Carnage's Sonic Bubble in the middle of the room. Overall, the game brings mostly an easy way to the challenge. Again, depending on what you do, it's either a tough challenge, or a breeze without having a second thought. On my side, it's not bad.

Depth: 5
Not a long game at all. There's a few modes to play in, but besides the main story mode, there's a mini-game events, some level selects, but overall, if you want to use the mini-games, there is a cool feature that saves your "high score" at the end of the event, and you can use it to compete with your friends with. No multiplayer mode, however, so you'll take turns if you wish to do this. Overall, there's only a few things you can do, BUT you can unlock a few things as well, which is Alternate Costumes by doing specific tasks, or finding codes to unlock them, to Spider-Man comic book covers scattered in every level in the game, including some Boss levels!

Story: 8
The story goes like this, Dr. Otto Octavius is about to unveil a new invention that will change America, while Peter Parker looks on in doubts, while Eddie Brock looks to steal Parker's job by taking shots of his own, but as Octavius is presenting the invention, Spider-Man shows up, but it appears that it is an imposter as Peter Parker IS Spider-Man, and is in the crowd as they riot as Imposter Spidey takes the invention with him, leaving violence in his path, and as Brock takes shots, the non-Spidey takes his camera, and destroys it, which leads him to a mental breakdown, and eventually being swallowed by his Alter-ego, Venom, and vows revenge to Spider-Man, unknowing that it is an imposter. Since the Fake Spidey took the experiment, everyone is on a man hunt for him, and the city becomes consumed with chaos and consumed by what seems to be smog, which is fueled by the creation, which is being now controlled by Doc Ock and Carnage. It's up to Spidey to track down who framed him, and who's responsible for the outbreak of his image. So overall, the story is really good, and what you'd expect from any type of Spider-Man comic or game. I really enjoy it.

Addictiveness: 10!
It's a perfect 10 since it's nostalgia influenced, and the fact that I always enjoy a real good Spider-Man game as well, it's a true classic no matter how you look at it, and if you really want to have a fun time going around exploring the environment in levels for hidden secrets, items, or just want to see what they did with the game, I really implore you to try it. I couldn't stop playing it then, and I still play it today.

Sound: 7
If you look at the sound as a whole, it's nothing too special, but I wouldn't say it's terrible either. The voice-acting is pretty spot-on from the animated series back in the 90s if anyone remembers those days(I even have a VHS tape of some of the episodes, which dates me a bit ) and besides the voice acting, we have the cheesy impact effects of those "WHACK!" sounds, which isn't worth looking into way too much. If you want to know about the music, there is a little bit of music worth noting, but I wouldn't say that the music is TOO memorable, but doesn't say that it sucks, either. I enjoy the bits of music they had, but it was pretty simplistic for its time. Nothing new, or anything like that. Nice to hear to add emotion to a level or what have you, but nothing to take out and listen stand alone. It could have been a bit better, but I'm okay with it. The rating mostly went to the voice acting and cut-scenes of the game.

Graphics: 7
Again, pretty average compared to some of the other games on the console, but nothing you wouldn't expect in the late 90s in video games. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty impressed it came out the way it did back then. There was a lot of detail in the city environments it made that really helped feel like what Spider-Man was all about. I can't really say much besides that, as the character models were pretty basic to a Playstation 1 game. You can't expect anything else, really.

Overall: 8.5
If you look overall at the game, it's a really cool game to own and play with. If you see a game like this on a pawn shop or on Ebay, I would say go ahead and buy it. It has all the elements from not only a top-notch Playstation game, but as what a classic Spider-Man game should be. To wrap it up, to get past all the nostalgia feelings I have with this game, I find this game a really balanced game, that has a few minor flaws, and a few other places that could be improved, but what else did one expect back then? You had this game, and it was fun and enjoyable. I can't really say much besides "Go and play it, you won't regret it".
