Mega Man is back after his first triumph over Dr. Wily

Story: 8
Mega Man two has a story and a plot something the first game was lacking. From the intro and reading from the manual the story is like this. After Dr. Wily was defeated by Mega Man and after his plans for world domination failed. Dr. Wily created 8  new powerful robots to defeat and terminate Mega Man. Dr. Wily plans is to defeat Mega Man, prove that he is a genius like his rival Dr. Light, and take over the world. Mega Man must head out for battle to stop Dr. Wily and his robot army. Giving this game a story is what set the bar for future Mega Man games. The first game did not have a story. So Capcom fixed that in Mega Man two. I also thought the story was a nice touch and somewhat creative. The story is not creative in my opinion like future Mega Man games are. But, this was a nice start to the series. It is also nice that players know from the start what most of the plot is.

Graphics: 8
Mega Man two really improved on the graphics. The first game had horrible graphics and anybody that has played the first Mega Man game knows what I mean. For those that have not the first Mega Man game had very glitchy graphics, the objects in the background were hard to tell what they were at times. The controls of Mega Man one were also bad, Mega Man seemed to be sluggish or stiff and the game really lagged. Mega Man two fixes a lot of these problems. Objects in the background are easy to see what they are supposed to be. The games controls are nice no where in the game does it feel like Mega Man is sluggish or stiff. The only thing that holds the rating back is there are some spots that the game seems to lag a little bit. The graphics were just a bit under par from future Mega Man games. However, the graphics are much improved from the first game.

Sound: 9
Mega Man two shines on sound. The music is so much better than the first game. The first games music sounded tingly at times as well as scratchy. Capcom fixed that with music that flows real nice. Quick Man, Wood Man and the Wily stages have memorable tunes that sound like a stereo which is what they are supposed to sound like. Now the music is good but maybe not up to par with future Mega Man games but after hearing Mega Man one's music this was a huge step up.  The sound the enemies make when they shot at you sounds more like weapons instead of scratchiness like the first game had.

Addicteveness; 8
Unlike Mega Man one which a lot of players do not want to play again this one has replay value. The only thing are stages are not able to be revisited (more on that in depth). Still the game is fun and is often credited with the game that started Mega Man fanfare. The game in my opinion is not like 3,4,5  and 7's replay value. But do not get me wrong this is fun game that I find myself going back to play. Sometimes it is nice to go back and play the game that started Mega Man's fanfare and popularized the character.

Depth: 7
Mega Man two suffers somewhat in depth. The stages are not able to be revisited so the player has to get everything in one stage. That can create problems when getting power ups because some of the stages require certain weapons to get. The game is moderately long and will probably take a few hours to beat. The game is not like future Mega Man games that had side missions, quests, being able to revisit stages and an extra fortress stage. But considering they are some items to get and collect keeps the rating at a decent rating.

Difficulty: 9
Mega Man Two really shines on difficulty. What is difficult is since the stages cannot be played through again the player will need to know what special weapons they need in going to a stage. If a player does not have the special weapons than they can forget about getting the power up items like extra lives and energy tanks. Some of the stages make you want to pull your hair out. Quick Man's stage is one of them with the laser beams, all of the traps and just Quick man himself. Other bosses are not as hard as he is but getting to them can be tricky due to enemy placement. So this game is difficult to say the least.

Overall: 8.8
Mega Man two is often described as the game that started it all. Mega Man two is often credited to popularizing the franchise. I agree with that. This is a good game to start off with if anybody is wanting to know what Mega Man games are like. The graphics are so much improved and so is the sound from the first game. Capcom after the first game being mediocre needed a huge hit and a makeover of the franchise if it was going to succeed. Thankfully, they did. I had fun plaything this game for reasons above. I will be honest I kind of got spoiled to future Mega Man games having the ability to charge buster shots, slide and revisit stages. Still, as I stated above it is fun to go back and see how well things have improved. I highly recommend this game. As much as the difficulty level is I would say this is a good game for beginners to start with. Simply, because it gets new Mega Man players used to the controls and what to expect in future Mega Man games. So if you haven't played this game yet I highly recommend that you do it is wroth it.
