It's about time for myself to have a review on a VGR game, no? So, this game is called WWE 2K14, the newly bought franchise of Take Two(2K) from THQ's long line of WWE/WWF games, after THQ itself became Bankrupt half way through the game development. They were able to finish the game, and 2K took the rights to the game, and this was released on October 29, 2013.(Internationally around November 1st), so enough small talk about the game itself. Let's begin breaking down the game.

Graphics: 8
To begin to discuss, let's literally, LOOK. at the game itself, graphics-wise(thanks, Sherlock) and the game's models look similar to the previous game's in WWE 13, which isn't a bad thing, really. Yeah, there's plenty of wrestlers who really don't look correct, and could be improved. Some characters are out of date to the date it was released(ala Daniel Bryan still doing the "NO!" thing, before Team Hell No), but that's the pain of being developed before they alter their character, but besides that, the wrestlers are spot on where I really enjoy playing them. I can go on for a while longer on the character models themselves, both Legends and Current Era, but let's talk about the arenas. They switched up with having the original arenas of today, including Raw, Smackdown, Main Event, and even the NXT arena that's in the Full Sail Arena. There's also retro arenas, but instead of the Attitude Era theme, they went with the Wrestlemania theme here, from WM 1 all the way to an estimated look on what WM 30 will look like. They all look pretty accurate on my book. Yeah, there's arenas that have ridiculously long ramps, but they obviously shortened the ramps for consistency. Or something like that. Besides that nit-pick, the arenas/ring environment is as accurate as can be without watching the event yourself.

Sound: 8
In the previous game of WWE 13, they introduced the WWE Live sound effect, which makes the crowd more realistic, and the first issue was the volume was out of control. If you left the volume the way it is, the crowd overpowers the entrances, and pretty much everything else. This year, they kinda fixed it, but I still recommend that you tamper with it before you play the game itself. Also, they tried to insert the "YES!" chant, along with some chants. They randomly go YES! after you do some kind of random move. Also, they start a Daniel Bryan chant randomly as well. Either they do that, or I can't hear them well. Besides the crowd noises, the impact effect when a superstar hits a move, or slams an opponent to the mat, has improved greatly to previous games. It sounds accurate to the show itself, and adds the environment. The entrance music has also been added of course with arena effect, and is pretty good. No complaints there, and they added in the game to specific superstars on their entrances voices when they usually talk, like Sheamus saying "FELLA!" or Daniel Bryan screaming "NO!" to Ryback "Wake up!" and more. They implemented it to taunts as well. However, for some reason the PS3 version of Daniel Bryan's No! taunt, is missing. It's some type of PS3 only issue to many people, but luckily, it's only his character that's glitchy.

Addictiveness: 9
There is a LOT to do in the game, but the addictiveness can very on what type of gamer you are. Unfortunately they removed the Royal Rumble from the online gameplay(and REALLY screwed up the camera angle for the Rumble itself, pointing in the default area instead of showing the ramp, unlike all of it's predecessors), but all other modes are available. Including a Battle Royale, which is the only remaining feel of a Rumble left. But if you're not an online guy, you can once again use WWE Universe mode, which makes you a "GM" of sorts, and controls all of WWE, both Raw and Smackdown, or whatever roster you put in a time-slot. You control the WWE in the palm of your hand, like the last few years. Oh yeah, they added a feature to add your very own rivalries, so they're not in absolute random. They also brought "The Streak mode" where you can either attempt to Defend or Defeat the Wrestlemania Streak of "The Phenom" himself, The Undertaker. In Defend mode, you go through a gauntlet, which goes on forever as far as I know, and ends when you finally get pinned. Defeat the streak allows you to fight the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. You can choose whoever you want to fight him, except Undertaker's Retro self or current version. Depending on who you choose. It's a really fun game to play, and if you do these actions successfully, you can submit your final score online, and be compared to the world ranks, which ALWAYS is a fun thing to do over and over again. Or compare against a friend who think he/she can outdo you. There's an unlockable game to unlock, which is Slobber Knocker mode, which was an old game to play in the old WWE/F games back in the beginning in WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It, and so on. It's basically what Defend the streak is, only you choose who you want to go through the gauntlet this time instead of only Taker. There's also a new mode called 30 Years of Wrestlemania Mode, which I'll go through in the "Story" section, which is basically the game's main focus on story. Safe to say, there's so much you can do compared to the old games, and is lots of fun to play.

Story: 7
Overall what 30 Years of Wrestlemania Mode is that you go through the beginning, back to 1985, the very first Wrestlemania, and go through the years, all the way to last years' Mania in 2013, WM 29. The 30th year is this year, so I guess they went, "Eh, close enough" instead of going 29 years of Mania. You don't go through ALL of the matches of each Mania. That would overkill the experience, so they went through the best matches in each event. From Big John Studd vs. Andre The Giant at WM 1, to John Cena vs. The Rock for the WWE Title at WM 29 with doing historical objectives on each event to go through the experience, and it made the game pretty cool. My opinion overall the game mode is that it was pretty good on paper, but overall, it was a bit underwhelming, really. I liked it, I really did, but some key moments never really made the cut, and it deflated my enthusiasm for it. Plus, the fact of Hulk Hogan being in EVERY FREAKING MATCH for the first 9 Manias just absolutely drained me. Didn't help later when Cena did the same thing from Mania 21-29. Well, not Mania 22, we got Mick Foley vs. Edge instead. And its' cutscenes are spot-on. Especially the end of the matchup with Edge's blood/shaking. That was pretty cool. There were a few cool re-animations of key moments, like Andre/Hogan, Hogan/Warrior, Hogan/Rock, and some others. Overall, the game mode is cool, but would've been a lot more.

Depth: 8
The length overall of this game depends if you like to unlock EVERYTHING. If so, it might take you a few weeks to find everything, or even getting every achievement. If you're the Achievement hunter, it might take a while. Along with some keen planning. Overall, though, between secret unlockables, the achievements, and the modes itself, you should keep yourself pretty busy for a while. I wouldn't say a month, roughly, I'd say a bit longer than that if you're consistently going after the game's secrets. Good luck with that.

Difficulty: 7
They definitely weren't messing around with the difficulty this time around. Last game's difficulty problems were basically it was way too easy, or the CPU was too stupid to keep a challenge ahead. This time, they improved their smarts, and now there's definitely a pretty solid fight in their eyes. You can still change the difficulty from Easy to Legend, but the fact is that they are no pushovers no matter what difficulty it is. Unless you modify the matchups you are in, or something. Either way, you got your hands full, in my opinion. Not impossible, but you'll get the challenge you're looking for if you want it.

Overall: 8.5
To wrap up this review, I'll say that the game has gone a long way in a short year and one company swap. It made the game more entertaining, and a bit more fun. There are still a lot of nit-picks in the game, including a few glitches, graphics, etc. but the fact is that they improved a game that was pretty much laughed upon in the previous game. Hopefully next year when 2K has COMPLETE control in the product, they might give the game a complete makeover, and if you thought this game was realistic before, you probably will be shocked to what you'll see in the future.
