I usually do it as Pixelart. Last time I made one was one that had hair like Silver's but it was yellow like tails. He also had the little tuft of hair in front like tails, and used Knuckles' sprite for a base. I would show it to you all, but sadly it is on my old hard drive and the hard drive is in the basement, covered by boxes and stuff.

As in actually sketching them on paper, yes, I have done it before, I did it a lot last year when I was in health and the dumb teacher was lecturing over stuff the rest of the class wasn't even listening to because they were too busy being baboons. I know how to do them on paint and pixel art programs as well though, I just haven't done it for some reason. Some of the ones I've done are pretty good though, I'm just not good when it comes to giving them names and stuff. Otherwise, yes I have done it before. Good question by the way.
