This is just a thread about letting you know how your food is made.

Have you ever wondered how your food actually ended up on your plate? Have you ever wondered
the process of how your food has ended up on your plate? Major meat companies
keep information from us of how they raise their animals and distribute them to
different stores like Walmart, BJ’s and Costco. But some information has been
leaked in a movie called Food, Inc. Some of the processes that the farmers or
manufacturers put these animals through are unsanitary and cruel. If the public
was exposed to how some of these animals were treated, people would think twice
about what meat they get.

In the film Food, Inc., there was one scene where chickens were being slaughtered
and used for edible food for people to eat, but in no ordinary way. The farmer
cooped them all into one house. Now, this all seems somewhat normal. But,
instead of properly feeding them in cages and what not, there were at least a
thousand of these chickens just sitting there in their own feces and urine.
Then, when the slaughtering stage comes about, they don’t even bother to
properly clean the chickens before they kill them. Even more unsanitary is that
they have to pick out all the dead chickens that didn’t last to see another day
probably due to disease. Now, if you ask me that is one of the most
disgustingly horrible things I have ever had to witness.

I do not think that this is the right way to treat these animals. And apparently
so do other people as well. These animals, whatever they may be, should be
brought up with care and the proper nurture for the final product of human
being to feast off of. I really don’t think that if the public were to know
about this that they would be too happy. I know I wouldn't’t. But I am telling
you this now. These animals shouldn't’t have to live in this environment of
living in their own fecal matter.

Sure, you could make the claim that they could be brought up in any environment because ultimately
they get killed and used for food for us to eat. But, there is a problem with
that. These animals wouldn't’t live up to their full potential. Whether it may be
getting as much milk as you can out of the cow, bulking up the chickens, pigs,
or boars so that they have a massive amount of meat on them. And sure, it does
take a bit longer to get rid of the animal, but it all pays off in the end
because you get a better bang for your buck, or cows, chickens, and pigs in
this instance. Plus, we humans would be a lot happier due to the overall amount
of meat that we receive on our plates. The companies that distribute the meat
wouldn't’t run out as fast with the alternative method. As I see it, overall it
is a win-win situation all around.

Nice work with this man, I agree, the story behind the way some foods are produced is rather repulsive and unsanitary. Meats in particular, I just hate the entire process that you described. I had no idea that the process they followed was so poor and unsanitary. This was very informative and I think you bring up a really good point. They should really follow a healthier, safer and cleaner process to bring up these animals before making the final product, because as you said, they wouldn't be at their full potential, just compare a scrawny chicken with no food and in a filthy environment with disease vs a healthier chicken in a clean, sanitary environment. You would yield a lot better quality chicken that way.

So I think you really do make up a good point, some people have no idea of the story behind the food they are eating....just take a look at fast food for instance! If most people knew the process and what that stuff was made of, they wouldn't order it!

Good job on doing the research on this.. I didn't know this about meat and the food we eat.. that is pretty nasty.. I will try not to think about it to much.. and that is sad.. I love animals and seeing them mistreated like this is terrible. Thanks for informing me about it though..

It's really been like this ever since meat was industrialized. We read about Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" at school, but are still ignorant about the processes used today. Granted, it's a lot better now, but there are probably several books like "Fast Food Nation" that would make one avoid fast food or processed meat in general.

I know exactly what you are talking about, I was in an animal science program in high school and I saw this video a couple of times called Farm To Fridge, it's just disturbing.
