From what I know; This game is basically a puzzle version of "Mortal Kombat Deception" It was an exclusive mini game that got ported in the Ultimate Mortal Kombat Cart. For those that know the Ultimate Mortal Kombat cart contained two games, One being this I'm reviewing, and an perfect arcade version of Umk3.
Graphics: 8
The Graphics are pretty nice compared to a lot of DS games. The backgrounds and characters despite them being small, they really look just as good as their deception game counterparts. This game does hold up pretty well compared to games that have a similar gender like" Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo". Like other games; Puzzle Kombat does take use of the Ds top screen, one being for were you can see the fighters doing battle, and the second is for were you can see the puzzle pieces. Even the blood fatality animation is really well done, and being the Mortal kombat fan that I am, I really love seeing my opponent pushed into spikes or bloody traps like the actual mortal kombat deception game.
Sound: 7
Music and Sound effects were mostly ripped from Mortal kombat deception, but the grunts are still good, and the voices do suit characters like scorpion The music is alright, It does have that dark, twisted, and creepy style, but I just don't like it, probably due to my liking of the soundtrack for the older Mk games.
Addictiveness: 4
I've played the game casually from time to time, While it is a good puzzle and trap game, I'm just not into those type of games. So that's just me, and I would go playing the port of Umk3 most of the time.
Story: No rating
In sort terms there's no storyline to be found within this. It's just a puzzle game after all.
Depth: 6
I've never actually beaten the game. Like all the other Mk games, The difficulty increases rapidly during your way up through the tower of foes, and During the 4th or 5th battle, I'd usually get defeated. There are a few unlockable characters and such, but that's about it.
Difficulty: 7
The 5th or 4th battle got me stuck never finishing the game, Most other battles from before that era are actually not so difficult. It got harder for me due to: 1) Ai moving his/her blocks faster. 2) I'm not fast enough to break all the chains before They pile up and cost me the match. 3) The ai will break any type of chain in a pretty fast amount of time.
Overall: puzzle Kombat is okay. I'll rate it a 5.5
