Pokemon Reviews: Vanilluxe
Among the stupidest corners of Game Freak's imagination, it's actually pretty good.

WHY GAME FREAK? Yep, they are running out of steam... they make a third of the pokemon of 4th gen evolutions to already existing pokemon, make different versions of existing pokemon (pikachu of course, the ralts family, geodude family, magnemite family, luvdisc, ect), and then THIS? THIIIISS???? It's an ice cream cone! You put two gears together and make it ONE pokemon and then you make frozen yogurt?!
Power of imagination... riveting...
Now actually by level 35 things start going uphill for this pokemon. Vanillite and Vanilluxe are pretty good pokemon to have, I mean if you couldn't tell by now it's an ice type, which has 4 weaknesses and a single resistance to other ice types, but there are some qualities to make up for this. Lets take a look at these stats.
HP: 71
Attack: 95
Sp Attack: 110
Defense: 85
Sp Defense: 95
Speed: 79
Now I didn't have to comment on any of those, the point is this...
Stat Totals: 535
This is very high for a pokemon to have, heck, it's an ICE CREAM FLOAT. It even has the ability Ice Body which restores HP in hail!(it also has a hidden ability, but it's weak armor, and I hate it, and you should too.) And what's more is that ice types can learn some very powerful moves, so let's check that movepool shall we?

There are no moves Vanilluxe only learns before evolving, meaning do it as soon as you hit Lvl. 47. I will talk about every move up until the last just to cover the possibilities.
Moves it can learn with the move learner are Icicle Spear which does 25 damage up to 5 times in a row.
Freeze-Dry, with 70 damage, 100 accuracy, and has a unique ability to be super-effective on water types who are usually resistant to ice.
And then the coup-de-grace, if you've been following along my reviews you may understand... but we will get to it... hehe...
Lvl. 4 Harden: We all know what Harden does, NEXT.
Lvl. 7 Astonish: Ghost move, 30 damage, 100 accuracy, you run at the opponent yelling LEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOY and you may cause it to flinch.
Lvl. 10 Uproar: This move does 90 damage, but you can't use any other move for 3 turns and for those 3 turns no one can fall asleep, insomnia can be useful at times during double or triple battles, you decide.
Lvl. 13 Icy Wind: 55x1.5 damage, 95 accuracy, also reduces speed. Now I know stat changing moves are a waste of time (except for Cotton Guard, that one is really good), but if it damages the foe AND lowers a stat at the same time I can do, especially at this level.
Lvl. 16 Mist: LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL RLY? Sorry relinquish022... I just had to...
Lvl. 19 Avalanche: Ice move with 60x1.5 damage and 100 accuracy. If your opponent attacks you successfully before your move, this attack will do DOUBLE damage! Well, so much for Icy wind...
Lvl. 22 Taunt: One of the worst moves out there, you know how status changing moves are a waste of time? Well THIS move makes the opponent do NOTHING BUT damaging moves. HOW DOES THAT HELP AT ALL???
Lvl. 26 Mirror Shot: Everyone knows mirrors are made of steel XD! 65 damage, 85 accuracy, it has a chance of lowering accuracy as well.
Lvl. 31 Acid Armor: Don't ask me how this works, you melt and it raises defense by 2 stages. Yeah I dunno...
Lvl. 36 Ice Beam: Yeah! Vanillite just evolved into Vanillish and learns Ice Beam, an old favorite. Unfortunately as relinquish022 stated in his Pikachu review, this and many more moves that once had 95 damage and 100 accuracy now have 90 damage. This is still a great move, it can freeze an opponent and unless there an ice heal, full heal, or full restore involved in the picture that sucker is STAYING frozen unless hit with a fire type move. I think. I dunno the concepts of X and Y yet really... not until christmas at least. Torchic :3
Lvl. 42 Hail: As I mentioned, the only normal ability Vanillite's family has is Ice Body, so this will give you insurance for 5 turns.
Lvl. 50 Mirror Coat: This move is beautiful. So beautiful indeed... Let me tell a story. I spent 20 seconds biking in Great Chasm Tunnel to train my Volcarona (a pokemon I will also review tomorrow) against the ice types. I saw nothing, then a dust cloud appeared behind me. Before I could turn around the first freaking pokemon in 20 seconds decides to show up, a Vanillish. It was around Lvl. 46 or something, so I dunno how it knew this unless in Gen 5 it was learned 5 levels earlier than now. I was pissed off majorly, so I used flamethrower on the stupid ice cream. It SURVIVED in the low red zone and guess what move it used? This move goes after the opponent, and only works with special moves. When it is hit by one it does DOUBLE the damage taken! It's Bide without the wait! My Volcarona died that day, but fortunately Nurse Joy can revive the dead :3
Lvl. 59 Blizzard: Also stated in the Pikachu review, moves with 120 damage and 75 accuracy lost 10 points in damage. Sad... but I guess if that tiny smidget was still intact mega pokemon would explode in a mushroom cloud. Lolz. But still WHY 110? I would prefer 100 damage and 85 accuracy, but that's my opinion. Blizzard also may freeze a target, but only a small chance like Ice Beam.
Lvl. 67 Remember what a coup-de-grace is? Here is the ultimate wild card... SHEER COLD! Like Guillotine, Horn Drill, and Fissure, this move has 30 accuracy but an INSTA-KILL if it hits a pokemon with the same or lower level than you. I luv ice type moves . As for TM's, I wouldn't worry about those, they aren't as good as the level up moves.

Finally my recommendation. Of COURSE sheer cold is in there, also hail, and I would have an icy rock which increases the duration of hail. You know, for HP regeneration to the max. You can choose Ice Beam for good damage over time or Blizzard for a heavy hitter (or one who saves before EVERY battle and resets if ANYTHING goes wrong). Lastly is the ever so popular Mirror Coat to show those fire types whose boss >. And psychic types, and water types for the most part, lots of electric types, the ghost moves usually, well you get the idea. So thanks for reading, gotta go draw my comics and start reviewing Volcarona!
