Yggdra Union
We'll never fight alone
Review
Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone, originally released in 2006 for the GameBoy Advance, is a tactical strategy RPG that features some rather unique battle mechanics. Instead of multiple units battling multiple enemies, only one unit at a time can fight, relying on battlefield position-dependent Unions to bring allies into the fight. Adding to the complex system are cards that represent your movement and power, adding special abilities to the fight and leveling as you use them. This game have become a gem in the tactical RPG games for it's uniqueness and challenging gameplay so I don't recommend it for people that are new to the genre.
Graphics (10/10): This game have some really good graphic, the character design, animations background photos, details in the menus and so on makes it looks really good. The field in game (while in a mission) may not look so appealing but it's simplicity yet being useful it's something that any player would enjoy making the gameplay a little easier (but not enough to make the game easy).
The characters sprites are really stylish so for sure you're going to get attached to one, two or all of the characters.
Sound (10/10): This game excel extremely on it's soundtrack, it gives you the sensation of being at the combat and it never get boring. They really did a good work there. (and made it a lot better for the PSP but that's another subject.)
Addictiveness (9/10): The game will keep you coming back expecting what's going next since most of the time the missions never involves the same strategy so basically every mission is always different with it's respective gimmicks.
Story (7/10): The story is good, sort of the common thing of the kingdom in despair you being the only salvation and so on, for me the story was lacking some depth that would leave something afterwards that you would remember. I'm not saying is a bad story, just that it lacked depth and was a little generic.
Depth(10/10):
--9 characters: 2 main and 7 recruitables from wich you only can get 6 since you need to choos between 2.
--9 Chapters including 48 battlefields (missions) to do, plus a lot of items to get
As you can see this is a really long game but I can confirm that it is a game worth playing all the way trough.
?Difficulty: (10/10):?I think it is important to note that Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone is not a game that a beginner to tactical role-play would want to pick up in order to get their first taste of the genre. While it certainly looks like an adorable anime-style RPG on the cover, once you're deep into the game it is easy to be completely overwhelmed by the complex strategic decisions you'll have to make. This game is one of those games where if you're not playing it correctly you can get completely stuck, and if you don't have a save from a previous mission you might need to repeat the game from the start (Not my case but I have seen people complaining about that).
If you have experience with tactical RPG and are looking for a challenge, I proudly recommend to you?Yggdra Union:?We'll Never Fight Alone, it's unique gameplay and challenging experience will give you for sure hours of fun and/or rage... and if that is not enough for you, there's always Hard mode.
