I
was bored and wanted to make a top 15 list of Pokémon I love using during games
and why exactly I find them so useful. Now this is not exactly a list where it
is from the most used to least used or vice versa because every Pokémon has
uses and reasons why players would consider using them.(Top 15 for games up to
3rd gen) So let’s get started!

1)
One Pokemon I always seem to use no matter what game I play and what generation
it is has to be Geodude. The reason I usually tend to use Geodude is for a few
reasons and they are:

A)
In most games you can catch and train Geodude right from the beginning of the
game. For a gamer like me that is extremely helpful because having such a good
wall right from the start of the game is not a must but always recommended.

B)
It is very easy to train! Especially in the beginning of games when it is under
level 10 and you are on the first few routes it is almost impossible to have it
faint. Usually Pokemon between lv.2-7 never have an elemental type move that
can actually deal massive damage to Geodude. This means you could train Geodude
until all the PP of his moves reach 0. Then at that point you do a quick heal
and keep going.

C)
Normal, Flying, Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, types usually end up being gym
leaders no matter what hack it is and having a Graveler comes in handy
especially in other situations such as Grass trainers and Water trainers
because you could teach Graveler Fire punch and Thunder punch. So even at a
disadvantage you could overcome the situation!

2)
Pidgey. I know what you are all thinking, having a Pidgey on a main team can be
a very noob move, Pidgeot’s base stats are only 469, and so many other Pokemon
are flying types that have another very good type as well such as Dragon,
Psychic, Poison, Ice, Grass, etc. So the question becomes “Why exactly do I
pick Pidgey?” The reason is that Pidgeot can have a very diverse move pool if
you use it right and can be very effective against most gyms and the fact that
Pidgeot does not have too many weaknesses. Though I do suggest only having 1
flying type on your team and depending on a team you choose you may not want a
Pidgey.

3)
Raticate. Believe it or not I have actually been able to sweep through Pokemon
Crystal, Gold, and Silver versions with just a Raticate. Not only does Raticate
not have many weaknesses but if you teach it the right moves it could actually
be able to sweep almost any trainer you go up against with it. Moves like: Dig,
Shadow Ball, Shock Wave, Iron Tail, Ice Beam, and of course Hyper Fang make
this Pokemon a worthy opponent despite its not very good base stats.

4)
Nidoking. One of many gamer’s favorite Pokemon to use in game is this Pokemon.
Not only does it not have too many weaknesses but its base stats are 495, it
can learn so many different moves it makes using this Pokemon feel cheap, and
many gamers like having at least 1 ground type on their team. You can never go
wrong with using this Pokemon no matter how you look at it because its base
stats are incredible, it can learn many extremely powerful moves, and speed
runs always tend to use this big guy. So if you never played through a game
with this Pokemon you really should experiment and trust me you will love the
results!

5)
Victreebel. Now you all must be thinking why I would put this in my list and
like always there is an explanation.  Victreebel
despite its low Defense and Special Defense it is known to come in handy in a
really bad situation. Not only can it cause just about every status problem
there is but because of that and how it has not many elemental weaknesses so it
can be considered a wall/turn waster on the opponent if you use Sleep Powder.

6)
Magneton. This Pokemon is a wall that deals very high damage to the opponent.
The only 3 elemental weaknesses this Pokemon has is: Fire, Fighting, and Ground.
While: Normal, Electric, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Dark, Ghost, and
Dragon only deal ½ damage while: Flying and Steel do ¼ damage and Poison does 0
damage. Wow pretty crazy right? No wonder why so many players use this Pokemon
during games it is just a very good wall with amazing Special Attack!

7)
Hitmonlee. Not only does this Pokemon only have two weaknesses being: Flying,
and Psychic but its Special Defense and Attack are all very good! With moves
you could teach it like: Blaze Kick, Brick Break, Rock Slide, and Poison Jab
this Pokemon is a formidable opponent!

8)
Electabuzz. This is usually a fan favorite but many gamers like to use
Electabuzz even if they are unable to evolve it to its final evolution Electivire.
The reason is that it is actually a pretty good Electric type Pokemon with the
ability to use fighting, steel, and psychic type moves which make it incredibly
strong and a very unique Electric type Pokemon. Also his base speed is 105
which is not extremely fast but still pretty average which makes it a force to
be reckoned with!

9)  Snorlax. Now
if you are a gamer who loves playing Pokemon hacks you will always remember 2
things about Snorlax: Its extremely high HP which makes it one of the best
walls these games have to offer, and also the fact that Snorlax’s only true
weakness is fighting types. So if you are able to use Snorlax you really should
because it can come in handy to help you beat almost every gym leader in every
game. Though I have to admit in Crystal, Silver, and Gold I never use Snorlax
by the time I am able to.

10) Ampharos. Not the best electric type Pokemon in
the games in general but for the most part in some titles it is the only
electric type you see for most of the game and it is usually good to have an
electric type in any play through. Now its base stats are 500 and that is
extremely helpful and make it one of the better Pokemon in general but if you
have a choice between this Pokemon and another electric type I would choose
carefully.

11) Heracross. Not only does it have massive attack
power but the move pool you could give yours is incredible especially for a bug
and fighting type. Now Bug and Fighting types both together does give Heracross
many weaknesses but in a head on fight Heracross is a must use team member! I
only was able to use it for one play through but it got me through more bad
situations than I could count!

12) Tyranitar. All I have to really say for this
Pokemon is even though it has many weaknesses its base stats are 600 which
makes it 20% better mathematically than most of the Pokemon I mentioned on this
list and this Pokemon can learn many powerful moves which truly does make it a
monster that deserves to be on any team.

13) Gardevoir. Even though it is a psychic Pokemon
which gamers usually ignore for the more popular Alakazam this Pokemon is actually
extremely useful. Its special attack and special defense are pretty high and the
move pool it can have is really good and could help you get through most
situations especially since it does not have many elemental weaknesses. Though
training Ralts from level 2-6 can be a big pain it is very worth it!

14) Absol. This is not only my favorite Pokemon but it
is surprisingly extremely useful during games especially for Ruby, Sapphire,
and Emerald because of the fact that you can teach it many of the TMs you
obtain from gym leaders which are all usually pretty good moves. Not only does
Absol not have many weaknesses but it also is able to have numerous diverse
move pools which also makes it a Pokemon which is hard to tell what attack could
be coming. It may not be the strongest dark type Pokemon there is in games but
it is very useful and can be used very diversely depending on who you are
battling.

15) Aggron. With base stats of 530 this Pokemon is not
only a wall but also can be used as a sweeper because of all the different
super powerful moves it can be taught with TMs and just by leveling up.
Weaknesses it has are sometimes very hard to make up for but for the most part
it can go up against most types without a problem and may even be able to
defeat types that it is very weak against if you teach it the right attack.

So I hope you all enjoyed my super long list of my top
15 Pokemon I personally use during games from Kanto to Hoenn, If you want to
definitely feel free to put what you feel are some of your choices and also if
you are up to it try to make some replacements for my list if you think a
similar Pokemon can in fact be much more useful!

This is a cool list of Pokémon! I was surprised to see some of the earlier ones, but as the list went on, I could see some overpowered Pokémon everyone loves.

It's really cool to see what you use. Like I said, some surprised me, but it's awesome that you can pull it off.

Originally I was going to post all the Pokemon I have used and why I enjoyed using them so much but after seeing that I had about 75-100 I would have been talking about I felt that would be a little too long especially seeing how long this list of 15 was. I would definitely like to see your list even if you do not give out reasons why you use them. And most of the Pokemon I mentioned I usually use for specific games or teams I am working on otherwise I usually only use between 2-3 in each game.(I love using Nidoking the most because of the fact that it is so powerful and can be used as not only a wall but easily could be used as a sweeper if done right)

Well, I like your choices that you listed! They were really good!

If you'd like, I'll name my top ten, in no order. No reasons, if that's okay. (Gen 1 to 4, not gen 5.)

Absol
Nidoking
Dragonite
Altaria
Ludicolo
Raichu
One of the Eeveelutions
Machamp
Alakazam
Gardevoir

There are more, but I can't think of them. Sorry.

Wow, this is a long list. I really can not list 15 of my favorites, though. But this is really long. I like it. I agree with almost all your choices, but some are actually weak.

DittoDude44 :
I know that some of them are more on the weaker side especially Victoreebel. I always have my different uses for my team members because I like playing the games with different strategies and using all different types which some hacks and even the original games do not always support. But believe it or not I have done a complete sweep of Pokémon Crystal, Gold, and Silver with a Raticate and had all my other team members as basically walls to heal my Raticate even though that Pokémon should never really be a first choice for those games. I could have listed all the non legendary who have all the best base stats but I really wanted my top 15 to be more about why I use the Pokémon instead of just being "Their base stats are the top 20 best so you should use them". I hope you got a lot out of this guide and trust me if I stuck to my original list it would be way too long as well as the fact that I would have so many different Pokémon that it would actually be very boring and some may be a little confusing.

goodboy :
I love your list except I hate training Dratini. That is the one Pokémon I refuse to play with on my main team and train even if it is only 2-5 levels just so it could evolve. I just really do not like the moves it has but that is only me since just about every gamer who plays Pokémon titles love Dragonite because it is such a powerhouse. But mathematically speaking Dragonite's base stats are equal with Garchomp's base stats which is 600. Many legendary in the games like Latios and Latias's base stats also equal 600 so Dragonite is a force to be reckoned with

Nice! I honestly think you did a great job on making this list! I caught and have some of these Pokémon on my team, so it seems like  this list 100% great!

Yep! Even though Dratini is really a pain in the bum, it really gets worth it when you get down to Dragonite's final stats! That's the only real reason I use him.

And, oops! I forgot Slaking and Garchomp on my list!

Thank you so much it means a lot knowing some of the choices I have made are also made by other gamers who enjoy playing Pokémon titles. Though I left out many Pokémon who I use a lot of the time I still only had the chance to cut it down to 15 and I decided to only do the first 3 gens since gen 1 and 2 are usually always in hacked games and gen 3 has such a diverse Pokémon list that for the most part are all pretty useful during game play such as Camerupt, Flygon, Claydol, Breloom, Manectric, Medicham, Walrein, and Alteria all of who I did not have room for on this list but that many players tend to try and include on teams. Again thank you for the criticism and I do hope you are able to put a list of your own I could check out

goodboy :
Slaking is surprisingly the strongest Pokémon but due to its ability you really have to cut its attack in half which makes it only average. Also it has many weaknesses and not very good Special Defense which is something that is never good on a team especially since it could be used as both a sweeper and a wall. Overall I never really liked using Dragon types just because I am not the type of player who likes training endlessly even though it does not take me very long. (I am just very A.D.D. when it comes to these games which is why the space bar is used by me so often.

Great job on the list! While I don't completely agree, you still did a great job on expressing your opinions. Some of my most useful gen 1-4 Pokemon (not in order and not including starters or legendaries):

Eevee Evolutions
Flygon
Golem
Alakazam
Raichu
Nidoking
Dewgong
Snorlax
Machamp
Hitmonlee / Hitmonchan
Magneton
Aerodactyl

The only thing bad about Slaking is the ability, really. It doesn't half your attack, you just attack every other turn, which, yes, can be a pain.

Normal types have many weaknesses, yes, but most can be surpassed if you can think of a little strategy.

And, Special Defense isn't terrible, but it is the worst stat for Slaking.

tgags123 :
Thank you very much my friend, I really do appreciate the criticism given. Though your list is usually what I see concerning gamers in general I feel like most of your list consists of Pokémon who are used far too often. However, Aerodactyl and Dewgong both very effective Pokémon are used the least on your list and to me are more unique because of that. I have yet to use a Machamp all through a game but I do feel like it is actually a very good Pokémon and could fit almost any team.
I do have to ask when you put Hitmonlee / Hitmonchan on your list next to each other does that mean you like using them equally? Or did you just mean that both of there uses are very different but both very valuable on a team? Either way I agree completely because Hitmonlee is a very quick and powerful Pokémon with the moves it can learn could crush opponents. On the other hand Hitmonchan I usually use to sweep trainers who I do not really want to deal with due to it being able to learn all 3 elemental punches in any version as well as the update for newer games which allow it to learn Sky Uppercut which only adds to its amazing power and ability to sweep weaker opponents quickly.
Magmortar and Rhyperior I have not gotten the chance to use due to the fact that I have yet to tackle the original Diamond, Pearl, and have not finished Platinum. I do look forward to the day I can use them on the same team since they are both extremely powerful and can easily crush other trainers.

goodboy :
I really cannot argue against Slaking being a very powerful and useful Pokémon and the fact that it can easily be used as either a sweeper or a wall which in most cases is very rare for a non legendary Pokémon. Personally I never liked using it just because I never liked using walls for actual sweepers on my teams. (For example I would never use Snorlax to sweep an opponent I would just use it as a wall if needed). So if your playing style matches Slaking more power to you because it is a very useful Pokémon who can destroy just about anyone in game unless the A.I. is smart enough to use Protect which is cheap but using Slaking as a sweeper also is a little cheap depending on the circumstances. Also by only being able to use moves once every two turns Slaking's stats as both Physical attack and Special attack are cut in half. Also if you do use a Slaking I would make sure it only knows Physical attacks otherwise you are not using it properly as a sweeper.

Cheers!
