I still remember the day that I first saw the movie who framed Rodger rabbit, It was an excellent comedy with enough violence and slapstick humor for the family to enjoy, Now I remembered going to the video store the next week and discovering that they actually made a Rodger rabbit game for the NES! I could only imagine how bad this would turn out, and you will see why...
Story-5/10 The main plot behind this one is the exact same story behind the movie, someone has been accused of killing one of the most famous guys in the town, and this guy is Rodger rabbit, a calm absent-minded rabbit who has a nack for trouble, So it is up to you to prove to everyone that the rabbit is innocent!
Gameplay-4/10 In this action adventure game, you will take the control of Eddie valiant, as you explore through big worlds and locales looking for clues to prove that Rodger rabbit is innocent, The controls are pretty simple enough, A is your action button, B lets you punch, and the D-pad lets you move, Now the first problem I have this game is how complicated it is trying to find any clues! Half of the time everybody will tell you weird stuff like "Get away from me you horrible person!" or some other stuff, In order to get from place to place, you will either have to walk all the way there, or you can take Benny the cab and he will ride you there. Now by far, one of the more complicated things in this game is trying to punch, you will have to keep tapping the B?button like crazy until the meter in the top of the screen is full, then you can punch!? Oh yeah, and?like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, just?about everything is trying to kill you in this game, dogs, cats, old people, you name it!? There are hardly any bosses or such in the game, but what we have here is prob- oh wait, I don't want to get a bunch of criticism on my review here, so um, I guess that is the gameplay for this game!
Graphics-6/10 This game was made in 1988, and even for that time, It is really not anything special, I mean, I can't even tell what some of these things are! Except for Rodger rabbit, he actually looks like himself, But anyways, all the levels you will be exploring are very bland, uninspiring, and just don't have anything much to do in them! Except for the overhead stages, those stages are pretty big that you will?need Benny to bring you to those far away places. The HUD is pretty self explanatory, It shows you your score, your currently selected power, and the Who framed Rodger rabbit logo is in the top left hand corner of the screen, you know, So you know what game this is in case you didn't already know in the first place by looking at the darn game box!
Sound-5/10 You are greeted by some fairly nice sounding music considering this is the NES, but this is where the torture starts, The main song that has been in my head since day one is that darn song that plays when you first?appear in Eddie's office! I mean, da dun dun da la da da da...dun dun dun...It's so catchy! Yet, repetitive at the same time, but anyways, the music in the later levels is pretty OK for the most part, and as for the sound effects, they are the most simple as you can get for an NES game, you get booms, boings, vroooms, thuds, etc! Yeah, I know, they could've done better, but what the heck, It is Rodger rabbit!
Addictiveness-4/10 To be completely honest, this game just doesn't have enough depth or value to suck you back into the game one more time! I mean, I still remember my first time playing this game, I just shut it off after 10 minutes, because it is so overly complicated and confusing to play! I mean just imagine if your parents had no other choice but to just get you this at the video store! So unfair! Why can't your parents just get you something like castlevania, or metroid, or anything!
Depth-5/10 This game is REALLY short, and I don't really see anything that will make you want to come back, except the worst part of this game would have to be the overly-complicated password system! It is over 12 digits long! Why couldn't they make it like 4 or something, but oh well, The game is made by LJN, the only developers in this world who like to make just about?everything hard! The game is about 5 levels long, so just a good 1 hour, and that is it.
Difficulty-7/10 Alright, the moment you guys have all been waiting for, the difficulty, This game is so hard, so confusing, so tedious, How are young kids supposed to understand how to play this game when they first get it??I am pretty sure they will have more fun slaying vampires in castlevania, or jumping on goombas and koopas in Mario bros, or even recovering all of the triforce pieces in Zelda! but the worst part of this whole game has got to be the judge doom fight at the end of the game, this guy has been the bane of my childhood, and years later, I still have beat this dude only once in my life...You will die and die and die and die until you get game over and must type in the long password over again, I know, It is frustrating.
Overall-4.7/10 You guys know the drill, the game sucks, there is nothing special to it, and It needs to burn judge doom's evil laser, I gave this game a 4.7 because how boring tedious and complicated everything is! Not even I could figure out how to play this thing back when I was a kid, just avoid the game at all costs, this has been RedHotToddy, and I am out!
