It was September third 1998, Hideo Kojima and Konami had released Metal Gear Solid, a continuation to his first two installments of the Metal Gear saga, with Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, With Metal Gear being released on the MSX2 in Japan and a port for the NES in North America. When they both sold well in their respective countries, Kojima thought he was done with the Metal Gear franchise. But fans wanted more, So Konami made an unofficial sequel to Metal Gear called Snake’s Revenge for the Nes, but Kojima and his team were angry that Konami didn’t get permission to make this and because him and his team never worked on it. But it was fairly successful in the U.S. So they made an official sequel called Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MSX2. Again Hideo Kojima thought he was done with the franchise. But fans wanted even more. So he planned on making a third installment later he would name it Metal Gear Solid marking the transition into three dimensions. The story and voice acting of the game made you care about all the characters and plot points. This story also introduced a nice cast of characters , starting with the protagonist: Solid Snake, a special forces agent who formerly worked under FOXHOUND. Along the way you were introduced to other characters such as Colonel Roy Campbell, your mission informant and the former commander of FOXHOUND. Naomi Hunter your medical informant, Nastasha Romanenko, who gives you information about items and weapons. Master Miller, your former trainer and drill instructor, and Mei Ling, who is in charge of mission data. They are all contacts through your codec radio. After that you even have the characters Meryl Silverburgh who was believed to be the Colonel’s niece but is his daughter, and Hal Emmerich or “Otacon”, the lead developer of a project called Metal Gear Rex that you meet in the story. The Main villain of the story is Liquid Snake, a physical duplicate of Solid Snake and the leader of the newly turned terrorist unit FOXHOUND, along with Revolver Ocelot, an expert on handguns. Sniper Wolf, a renowned sniper. Vulcan Raven, an Alaskan shaman. Psycho Mantis, a psychic profiler and Decoy Octopus, a master of disguise. Finally Grey Fox, a mysterious cyborg ninja against FOXHOUND but not fighting alongside Snake. The story of Metal Gear Solid was set in Alaska, 2005, six years after the events of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and ten years after the events that happened in the first Metal Gear game. Special forces agent Solid Snake is forced out of retirement and then dispatched by Colonel Roy Campbell to infiltrate the terrorist stronghold on Shadow Moses Island to learn if the terrorists have the ability to launch a nuclear strike, investigate the Metal Gear Rex project and rescue the DARPA chief Donald Anderson and the Armstech President Kenneth Baker. Then Snake has to take out the FOXHOUND members and their leader. The Soundtrack for the game really makes you feel immersed in the whole story and in my personal opinion is one of the greatest soundtracks I’ve ever heard, with 21 amazing tracks this will have you enjoying all the moments in this wonderful game. There was a remake for the Gamecube that was released march ninth of 2004, called Metal gear Solid: The twin Snakes which did well but it will never compare to the greatness of this game.It had improved graphics, but the originals graphics were good for its time. It also had Metal Gear Solid 2’s gameplay mechanics but they weren't needed also the soundtrack was changed. Don’t get me wrong its also a great game, but if you want the better experience, then play the original. Now my personal opinion of the original game, the Story was great and original, the gameplay was good when combined with the area layout it works very well. The music is fantastic, the voice acting is superb, the cutscenes were done well, and the characters were interesting and added to the experience in a good way. I would definitely play this game if I were you. It’s fun, it’s addictive, it's amazing!!!! PLAY THIS GAME!!!!!
