Kirby's Dream Land 3.

Ah what to say about one of the cutest Kirby games to date?
Well I have to say this, its brilliant! The game appears to be the generic Kirby game until you begin to play it.
Game-play mechanics are refined during this game which improves it from the previous two games in the Dream Land series.
So before I get to a stage where I ramble for to long I will begin.

Game-play : 10 / 10
The game-play of Kirby's Dream Land is definitely improved from the previous incarnations of the series adding new elements to the play-style of the game, first off we can start with Kirby's basic copy ability, as usual this works like most other Kirby games, suck an enemy up and copy it's power. I feel as if the abilities of Kirby in this game feel more fluent and smooth compared to the previous two games and it shows how much it had improved during the change to the Super Nintendo. It also refined a feature, teaming up with the animals / creatures of Dream land to complete the game which can now be teamed up with from the start, each are unique as each of them work a different way. Now... this is where I got really impressed ; Different combinations of different animals and abilities have different results, for example stone Kirby and pairing up with rick the hamster will result in rick turning into a boulder you can run on top of and crush enemies, but if you use Coo ( The dark bird. ) will fly above with you and when you use the ability smash drop. This is by far a fun way to experiment with abilities and animal friends. You also have more than one objective each level, one being the same old, same old get past the level to progress through the game, and a different objective to get a end of level bonus of sorts. So overall I gave game-play a ten because of how well I found it played, it felt smooth and fluent and I found it enjoyable.

Level Design / Boss Designs : 7 / 10
The level design in Kirby's Dream Land 3 is pretty standard for Kirby game. The levels are design to be easy to play and navigate for anyone. This allows players of all kinds to play the game without difficulty or to much skill. The reason I do not want to rate it to high for Level design is because I felt at times it was plain and to average for Kirby, most of the styling of the levels felt like I had played them before, although there were some that mixed it up adding puzzles that are required for the end of level. Next the bosses where of decent strength. Although some of them where from different games the boss fight itself felt new with the addition of the animal friends. The bosses are of a decent difficulty with some requiring skill such as Acro the whale. Bosses such as Whispy Woods, Kracko and Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright come back in this game for another fight and still give a decent experience to fight. So I eventually gave this category and seven because of how it felt someone already done. The repeat of bosses seen in old games felt somewhat lazy and could have been easily replaced. But overall it wasn't too bad.

Graphics & Design : 10 / 10

By far this game definitely has the most cutest designs and graphical style for any Kirby game of the series and maybe even the console. The world around Kirby is colorful and fresh with a soft look to it. Characters, animal friends and even enemies look bubbly and colorful and keeps to the games theme. With each level the game looks fresh and it keeps you looking at the visuals. The game definitely expresses itself as a cute and cuddle game worth the time to look at. The style as a whole is artsy and creative even the bosses are designed well. I gave Graphics and design a ten because how much I liked the graphic design of the game, it felt nice and bubbly and brings out the best of Kirby. His enemies better watch out for this cute little blob!

Sound & Music : 10 / 10
The music is a good standard for a Kirby game, the music is upbeat and allows a nice atmosphere for the game. The music complements the cute visuals the game shows through it's levels and is well done. The sound effects are pretty standard as well, they depict the thing they have to represent well and sound good. I will admit the sound effects sounded exactly like the other Kirby games but why wouldn't they? After all it's the same pink blob and enemies after all. The music I felt was well composed such as the boss battle music for King Dedede, here is what I'm talking about : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF0g77M2ui0 . I eventually decided to give sound and music a 10 because of how much I enjoyed the music, the somewhat copied sound effects didn't bother me to much because it still felt like a real Kirby game.

Addictiveness & Re-playability : 9 / 10

Kirby's Dream Land 3 has a sense of fun to it, which makes you want to play more, the game gets you into it and motivates you to beat it as with many of the other Kirby games. The addictiveness only adds when you find out how to mix and match animal friends and copy abilities to there best and get all the secrets. The Re-playability definitely is there within the game, due to the levels being easy to understand one can go through the game like a normal player and beat it, to return to the game a complete it one-hundred percent. This is present in the secondary goal of each level. So I think giving this category a nine was well deserved as I felt it could be replayed many times and still be addictive.

Story & Plot : 8 / 10

The story of any Kirby game usually follows : King Dedede stole all the food, but not in Dream Land 3. In this game, during a peaceful day where Kirby is fishing with his partner Gooey, a dark black and mysterious cloud shoots across the sky and breaks through the Pop-Star's rings causing the Pop-Star to split. Soon they set off to save the day and protect the world once more. This story somewhat shows how even slightly changing the story can result in a good game. I enjoyed the story and the secret last boss. ( Yup spoiler the last boss isn't King Dedede. ) I definitely think the story and plot deserves a solid eight due to how even if it's a similar story to a previous game it still feels new.

Depth : 9 / 10
The game can take a considerable amount of time to complete, during this time you can enjoy the beautiful design and music that goes along with it. The game offers more than one way of completion ; The original boss battle with King Dedede or the secret final boss with * cough * Spoiler * cough *,  this means you can play through the game for two endings. Giving it a lot more depth than a lot of other Kirby games. I think a solid nine is a good score to give depth as the game offers more than first appears.

Difficulty : 5 / 10
The difficulty in any Kirby game is not something you call hard, the game is generally child friendly and can be played by anyone and there grandmother. The level design allows for players of all skill to play through without difficulty giving it a sense of ease to the game-play. The controls are easy to master and allow for easy play within the game. Mastering the game isn't hard and can be done easily. So I have given difficulty a 5 because I find it of neutral difficulty.

Overall : 9 / 10
In conclusion I will admit the game offers a lot and is enjoyable for almost anyone and can be played easily. The game-play is fluent and easy to control, the level design shows how anyone can play the game. The graphics are fresh and bubbly giving off colored in feel, the music is composed well and is pleasant to listen to. There is plenty to do within the game and the game offers enough re-playability for anyone, the story may seem a bit bland but I wouldn't down rate it for that. So I have finally settled on giving the game a solid nine for overall score. I feel as if this game deserves a score like such. So I recommend this game to any fan of Kirby to play and complete as it offers a lovely experience.

I have to admit, I have never played a Kirby game, but with the way you are describing this game, it sounds very good. I have an interest in trying out some Kirby games sometime soon. What would you recommend me trying first?

Fantastic review. I somewhat feel that you might be a little too lenient on the scoring, but your evidence for those scores seem difficult to refute (and I wouldn't know, since I never played the game, haha) Keep up the good work.

play4fun : Honestly any Kirby game is good enough, since each is easy for anyone to pick up and play.
And I didn't make this for points, I had already gotten enough points for the day to win the tour de vizzed two days early.
