Hello, this is TheFadedWarrior with another review (my 4th review). I am going to be reviewing an underrated video game for the Nintendo GameBoy called Avenging Spirit. I hope you read my review and enjoy it!

Graphics

Although I'm not an expert with the GameBoy, this game has pretty good graphics. I've seen clips of other games, so this isn't just a guess. The title screen logo is great looking, and so is pretty much the rest of the game. I give the grphics an 8.

Sound

The tunes of this game are pretty good, in my opinion. Since its on the Nintendo GameBoy, the ringing of the noises and the weird "pvhv" sounds (which you probably don't know what I'm talking about) get kind of annoying, but that doesn't affect the rating, since all GameBoy games are like that. The first 12 videos on this dude's channel are the complete OST (official soundtrack) of the game. My personal favorite song in this game is Stage 4: The Sewer, but all of the songs in this game get kind of repetitive. I give the sound an 8.

Gameplay/Addictiveness

The gameplay of this game is totally awesome. If you've ever played as Ghost Kirby in Kirby: Squeak Squad! and loved it, then you'll probably love this whole game. You play as a ghost that can control your enemies. There's a fairly wide variety of enemies to control, so you never get bored. There's a ninja, a magic flying kitten thingy, a fire-breathing kangaroo, a mafia dude, a fighter, and a load more. Each enemy has its own advantage (slowfall, fire-breath, moon jump). You have an energy meter (E) and a life meter (L). You can only stay a ghost for so long, and when your energy meter runs empty, you fail the level. When you take control of one of your enemies, the energy meter stops draining, and whenever you get hit, your life meter drains. When your life meter runs empty, you turn back into a ghost, and your energy meter starts draining again. Because of all this, any player of this game is bound to play it again. I give the gameplay and addictiveness an impressive 9.

Story

So, basically, you go out on a date with your girlfriend, but all these gangsters pop out of nowhere and kill you. They kidnap your girlfriend as well, so you chase after your girlfriend because, lucky you, your girlfriend's father is some magic ghost expert that gives you the power to possess, so you plan to get revenge on the gangsters and rescue your girlfriend. There are 3 keys hidden in each level, and once you collect one, the door to the boss (who is a guardian of the next level) opens. Once you defeat the boss, you continue your journey to the gangster boss's lair to rescue your girlfriend. It's kind of like Mario, but with much more action, and, of course, the fact that you're a ghost trying to get revenge. I give the story an 8.

Depth

The game isn't too long for a GameBoy game, but it isn't really that short for a GameBoy game. There are 6 fairly long and hard levels. Considering the difficulty, I'd say it would take about 2, maybe more, hours for me to complete it. I give the depth a 6.

Difficulty

Although you don't have a limited number of lives (every time you lose the level, it gives you a chance to retry the level), this game is actually pretty tough. Considering how fast your energy goes down, when your life meter drains, half of the time it's hopeless to try to possess another soul. There are some really annoying enemies that always manage to hit you, especially this fast enemy that tends to spin nunchaku around himself... yeah. In the later levels, starting at The Sewers for me, you'll die about 3 or 4 times before completing the level. I give the difficulty an 8.

Overall/The End

Avenging Spirit is, sadly, a lesser known video game for the Nintendo GameBoy. You play as a ghost that can possess living organisms, and seeks revenge on gangsters and tries to save his girlfriend. It has great music, is fair in length, and is pretty difficult. If you have not had the chance to play this game, which you probably haven't, you should definitely consider playing it. Myself, I'm not a GameBoy fan, but this game is really fun to play.

I hope you enjoyed reading my review. Feel free to criticize me, but please don't criticize to hard. Thank you!

Fun (it's actually boring) Fact: This game has been ported onto the Arcade and the 3DS Virtual Console. I'm not sure, but the Arcade port is probably a bit better... This one has easier controls, though.

Good solid review Faded.
I think the use of the link in sound helps to get to understand what you are saying.
Considering how much the game boy could actually do memory wise it isn't suprising it wasn't too long of a game.
