Some of you may have seen a few of my recent posts, and some of you may be thinking, who is this guy, and where did he come from, to which I say, that isn't important, let me get started on what we are all here for.....games.

Well, as this is in the Final Fantasy Franchise area, you can undoubtedly find information about....Pink ponies flying around your head?....No...FINAL FANTASY!

This all started, for me, when I saw so many people placing the title FF3 to Terra's story.

However, before we can get to that, we need to start at the beginning, with a little known fact about how the games were started.

Final fantasy was named this for what reason? Surely the fact that there have been at the least two dozen continuations of the title should say that this couldn't be the Final Fantasy game....However, at the time, it was. The company was going bankrupt, and came out with Final Fantasy as a last ditch effort to get profits back up. Other wise.....well, it would be their final fantasy.

Needless to say, the game took off like wildfire, and since, there have been so many continuations that it could make your head spin.

Final fantasy 2 came around, and things had changed so much, that people were starting to fall into decline again. At this time, FF3 came out, which was later renamed as FF6. You see, FF6 was far beyond anything else that we had at the time, far outshining FF4 and 5, and most certainly more interesting that the true FF3, so it was introduced in the US as FF3, soon followed by FF4 and 5, the true FF3 not being released to the US for quite some time(And even then, I think it was only as a translation of the original by fans)

FF3 was based on, like the first one, four warriors who would gain the power of the crystals. Their original name would be roughly translated to "Onion Kid"

FF4 was, in my opinion, the worst of the series till X and beyond. It followed a story that was based on the main character, Cecil, learning the error of his blind trust of his king. At the beginning, we already see he has started to question his king, and eventually, he comes out and saves the world.

FF5, though not a far shot from FF4, was much better in quality. The characters were quirky(Ok, so the two little twin brats from 4 were kinda cute for a while, but that's not the point) and fun. Heck, one was a cross dressing female who fancied herself a man(Very possibly the first cross dresser in video game history)

6, as I said, was introduced, as 3, before 4 and 5, so when it was reintroduced as 6, many people were confused. It was roughly the same game, but instead of being on the Snes, it was in a pack on the PlayStation(I believe it was FF Anthology, but I could be mistaken). I have not played this version, but I am told that this version introduced a few things that were cut out of the US Snes version. Some changed Dialog, more of those funky jewels that give normal people magic(I forget the name, and its like 1:15 AM here so just back off)

7, everyone and their mother knows about FF7. It was my first love as a gamer, as it was one of two of my first games that I owned. Yes, the characters are composed of blocks for arms, and chunky movements, but somehow, we all saw past those flaws and watched as a story unfolded. We have begged for a new version to come out, and we have yet to be answered by more than one E3 showing of a very small portion of game, to which nothing, to our knowledge, has been added.

I will not go into detail the various expansions to 7 that are out, as I have not played them all, but needless to say, they all expand on the story that we learned from 7.

8, this one took me a while to understand, and is the only one that I have played, and not yet beaten. I am not sure if this came out before or after Legend of Dragoon, but at that time, I was in love with Legend of Dragoon, and FF8 fell into the dust of that, so I do not know much about it as of right now. Please forgive me.

9, by this time, I had beaten Legend of Dragoon, and it became an instant favorite. The moment Blink and Zidain get into the mock sword fight, I was hooked. The music was amazing, the monsters were sometimes cute, sometimes terrifying, and sometimes....a little silly. The story delved into some issues that could easily be pictured with real life situations

Anything after 9 is a time period that I despise. X was crap to me, throwing a whiny main character with a sports background, an assortment of bunny eared women, and a complete change to the mapping and leveling world that I grew up on. Should you care about those games, then I am sorry if I offend you, but....Everything after 9, with the exceptions of the 7 expansions, sucked.

While I am not a big fan of the game, at least Final Fantasy XII deserves a mention for being less crap than X, and XI deserves a mention for them having the balls to make an MMO. They did it again with Final Fantasy XIV, which was so bad that they apologised and are remaking.

tails the fox : Haha. I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy X, sans the laughing scene, but I really think that Final Fantasy XII wasn't that good. I just couldn't get into it. Anyways, good to know that someone sees things opposite of me!

pray75 : I actually don't think that Final Fantasy XII is that good. I just think it is better than X. I also thought that Final Fantasy XIII was pretty crap as well. I feel the series is never going to be as good as it used to be. Especially since the original creator has left Square.

Two reasons why I won't touch anything after 9, one, I haven't played very much after nine, and what I have, I haven't liked enough to look up the "history" of it.(Reason one, not playing them, reason two, not studying them)

I did play X but I never beat it, as I didn't care enough to "Level" my characters. I figured if I am not willing to finish a game, then I have no right to talk about it.(That's not to say I didn't play X2 and beat it. Man I'm so bad)

I have played and beaten XII, and most of the characters were....well, to me, boring. When there are so many extra things to do, and you just don't care about the story, all characters just become whitewashes of each other. EVERYONE can use EVERY weapon. And I have never seen any distinction for preference's in their starting weapons. Not to mention, the hardest challenge for me was getting the Zodiac spear before I was level 10.(Depending on the play through. When I play a game, and beat it, I have to immediately restart it and try to get all of the bestarie, all of the completion, all of the side quests, ext.)

As for anything after 12, I haven't played because the newest console I have is the Wii(Haven't even played the crystal one to completion on that, but That's cause I can't find it anywhere)

Richterfaust : I agree with you on that, the series has gone into a decline after IX was made. I've still played all of the Final Fantasy games but it's just not the same anymore. One thing that still irks me, is the fact they removed the world map free roam. For me, the massive free roam is what made the games so fun. You did have locations you had to visit, however you could just explore the map before you went to your next location. I hope when they (finally) release Versus XIII (Or XV as I've heard they're calling it), they bring back the world map free roam

SES Serotonin: I regret to inform you that the chances of the Final Fantasy games going back to their past glory is slim to none. I believe that the next few FF games will be the last, or at least, soon to trigger a new wave of gamers. As time creeps on, and we get older, have kids, maybe even grand kids, our level of gaming will/has become a thing of the ancient past. People in the new age like First person shooters now, and you can see it more and more. Games that our generation, and our elder's generation liked are becoming obsolete.

For my example, I just have to bring up FF Dirge of Cerberus. Sure, it wasn't a FPS(Though through use of the scopes, it could become such) and it was based off of a RPG character, it was still a shooter, and it wasn't what people of our generation wanted. However, now, with games like Halo, Socom(Do they still make new versions of this game?) and Call of Duty, and the fame that they have received with our youth, the life of the RPG FF is coming to a certain tragic end.

However, when this happens, I believe that one of the originators of FF will come out of the wood works, (I believe his last game was Lost Arc, or something like that) and save our generation the despair of the lose of our fabled game.

However, I can't say that I'm sad to see the title FF go. Yes, I loved the games growing up, and they helped me through a lot of tough times, but it was becoming to....Dragon Ball esque. Goes on forever, the main character never stays dead, and just keeps getting stronger and stronger, but still has to resort to the same tactics to beat his enemies....Yeah...

The life of FF was great, till X(No offense to those who liked X and up, but its just my opinion) but it is time for us to move on. They messed up our game, and its time to face facts that it is impossible to go back to what we knew.
