With all of the stuff "Capcom" does I wonder how they can continue.
Personally I hope "Konami" buys "Capcom".
Maybe then we can get a new Mega-Man title., A decent Design for Devil May Cry., and Fighter games with a full rosters.
I love Capcom but I hate the crap they pull.
So, Who thinks they should be bought to end "the Bogus Bull"?

Good Luck To All.

I doubt that another company buying capcom would be a good idea, since capcom seem to have a unique style with tueir games that I tend not to see with other developers. For the most part I have been rather happy with capcoms games.

Random fact:capcom is short for CAPsule COMputers.

I like Capcom games alright, but I have to say, if anyone were to buy them out, Konami would definitely be the best option. Those two seem to both have their own unique take on video games. Kind of like Midway.

I Pray "Midway" does not get Capcom if ever there was a day "capcom couldn't pay their bills."
Midway is a good company but the style they tend to go for (in the past) is more for initial presentation. Less for the substance and replay and story.
The Hot chick in "Rampage". Or the Gore-fest in "Narc". (I do love those games. But..)
At the end of the day if "Mortal Kombat" was not the great hit series that it is. Midway would have vanished along with the coin op world.
I dig the ideas they have but my gut tells me Midway would have no idea what to do with the staff Capcom has.

Very interesting idea though.
Thanks for responding.

Oh no, Midway wouldn't be a good company to buy out Capcom, I just meant they have their own style. I think you're right, that Konami would probably be the best suited for it.

mister sandman :
Wow.
"Square" is starting to pull stunts like that?
Man is the new generation of games developed getting odd.
Kinda the reason I started this thread.
Practices like this are worthy of the coin-op generation. Not the Console years where the price tags are for keeps.

Thanks for the tip.

Wonder what would happen if "Square" bought "Capcom."
If "Square" ever went under we know "Disney" would buy them in a heartbeat.
Totally off topic. Sorry.
Back on task.
Square and Capcom could make a good combination too.
(If the silly "emo" trends would just die already.)
Aw.. Wait.
That could be it.
Square is buying Capcom.
Devil May Cry has a bunch of silly looking "vegans" for a makeover.
No Megaman.
And instead of releasing a finished products and standing alone with their cool Hits. They follow the trends of what the other developers are doing to milk money.
Explains everything. Thanks. (Just kidding.)

Good Luck To All.
I'm Tired.
I have to go.
Need Sleep.

marcushoward :

Of course I agree.
But
"Now hear this".

I popped in a copy of Devil May Cry 4 For kicks recently (new difficulty run) and god is this game beautiful. The only time I have seen this kind of class and quality in recent years is with the metal gear series.
Why?
This was one of the first games I got for my 360 and expected most games to be an interesting equivalent in quality.
The Results?
I almost never see the same kind of quality.
It is as though Capcom hired the team to do one game and had them "snuffed" afterward.
Even though we all know that can not be true...
Why is it that so few games blow our minds?
Then we see odd stunts to prevent reselling and old stunts from the coin-op years to get more cash from the players to the point of sickening anyone that a person has to wonder...
"What happened?"
Why are they (nearly all companies) not just making great games and pushing the limits of the newest system?
Most of what I have seen released in recent years can be done with playstation2 technology (Graphics aside).
What gives?
And beyond that point is another question...
Why do we all need a new system now?
If most developers have not caught up with the times?
Why do we need a new system now?
Is Loading time really that much of a chore?
Beyond that..
Can developers adapt?
I know that technology gets outdated about every six months.
Shouldn't our games be outdated too?
Just a thought.
Thank you for responding.

While they do pull a lot of bad stunts, they aren't really the worst out there when it comes to quality. An example? EA is far worse than them, which you can see if you look around on other gaming forums and sites.

They can't really be bought I'd imagine, and they aren't on the edge of any cliffs when it comes to going down the drain, Nya~.

While a lot of the game had some bad qualities in it, DmC Devil May Cry was surprisingly better than I had imagined, and this is coming from a diehard classic DMC fan. I hate the new Dante. I hate how who looks, I hate some of the lines he says, but still, the overall gameplay was enjoyable, his background made it reasonable for some things about him, and the level design was amazing. Even on the Low graphics settings, the game looked pretty amazing.

My only complaint is that I could compare way too many areas with Sonic 06 stages, Nya~.

If you don't like them, just boycott them. When you do that, start telling others to boycott them too. when enough people stop buying their products, they'll re-evaluate their quality, and amp it up a bit.

Lame , First of all They bought SNK because SNK was getting bankrupt since they dont make 3D games.
And 2nd why would Square Buy Capcom when they already bought Enix you need to get your fact straight before talking about videogames companies.

MegaRevolution1 :
I was Praising Capcom with the Devil May Cry Series.
I was repremanding them for the stunts they pull for cash.
I was bringing up the question of "why not all games deliver the same quality as I saw in Devil May Cry 4.?"

I think you have misunderstood me.
I posed the question of Who Should buy Capcom if the Trends stay the same.
With Europe and the USA having issues with employing its own population there can only be so much money to be had.
If no one buys then no one makes a profit.
Granted China and Japan and Germany along with several others are doing fine with cash and employment.
But many of these countries have lower minimum wages and have regulations on what gets released anyway.
Take for example N.Korea. They will never know the Matrix due to a rule of never seeing an authority figure like a policeman being harmed in any way.
Others have rules about violence and other adult themes.

I was posing the question of who should buy capcom to discuss a very current affair in the video game business.
If it is not addressed then many games and developers will vanish.
I like video games.
I think of them like peices of artwork that can be put in a museum once they are old enough.

Hope I am wrong in the end.

Good Luck To All.
Peace.

orionfoxgibson : i think capcom is just short on money at the moment. i wouldnt like any company buying capcom other than nintendo, but even nintendo i would be unsure about, because capcom had made probably the best platform game ever other than mario and sonic, and other companys just couldnt make megaman the same, street fighter ether, its like nintendo selling mario to sega.

I just wish capcom would release more of the old games like do another mega man collection game with all of the originals and X's that would be for the PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii.

I personally would not want Konami (or anyone else) to buy Capcom, but I think that if anyone should buy Capcom, it should be Platinum Games. Why? Because pretty much every game they have touched has been simply amazing (DmC1&3 before they were Platinum Games, Bayonetta, Mad World, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to name a few). I would love to see their quality touch some of Capcom's better franchises (Megaman and Onimusha particularly).

And now a rant on the videogame industry that you should feel free to ignore:
While I do agree that Capcom has been greedy, I think many people ignore some of the facts. Videogames cost on average $18-$22 million to develop. Only 4% of games that are developed even make a profit (which is somewhat misleading; 10+% of games that reach shelves make profit). Of these, M-rates titles and FPS games sell the best, and are predicted to sell better if they include cooperative gameplay and online multiplayer. Since so few games actually make profit, more big companies are feeling the need to follow the market and produce such FPS games. (In the case of Capcom, Resident Evil 6; a M-rated third-person shooter with both online and local cooperative multiplayer and Agent Hunt mode, if you can call that competitive multiplayer. Either way, they have the new DLC multiplayers that have more competition to them, though I would say that charging for them is greedy.) I don't even want to get into piracy, but that is a large factor in the industry as developers pour more of their budget into security against such acts. All these different factors (increased cost, market trends, piracy) also make it hard for smaller companies to develop their ideas. The end result is a lot of major companies producing similar games that are rather unoriginal because they are intended to follow the market in a misguided attempt to make profit, while small developers that want to test out new ideas can't afford to compete. (Please note that my numbers may be off as they are based on articles I read a couple months ago.)
Rant over, sorry about that! >.<

Rant over, sorry about that! >.<

"Platinum Games"?
Sounds like a good choice.
Based on the Credits you provided it would be wise.
I would love to play a Zero game made by the guys that did Metal Gear Rising/Revengance.
One of the reasons I thought to mentioned Konami in the first place.

About the rant....
Can you name a few sources?
If there was only a 4% of games making a profit for the past thirty years then I am certain the industry would have vanished along time ago. I am not saying you did not read your material. I am suggesting you consider who wrote the reports you have read. I could check with the "Wall Street Journal" and do my own homework But I have a "gut feeling" that I do not have to bother.

Thank you for your responce.
Hope I hear from you again.

Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

I went back and rechecked the article I read and I was off by quite a bit. I said 10+% that reach shelves but it is indeed double that. The 4% statistic comes from any game that even starts development though, so a lot of games apparently don't even make it to shelves (though I don't know if they count handheld games, cell phone apps, or only console games). I probably should have went back and reread the articles before posting.

Here's a quote from one of the articles I read, though I don't remember the others that I read. I didn't believe them at first either, but there were 4-5 articles that all gave the same numbers. I will try to find them and post them later.

"According to the Electronic Entertainment Design and Research institute, just 4 percent of games that go into production will turn a profit and only 20 percent of titles that make it to store shelves will achieve profitability."

EDIT:Here is another article I had read:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/202380/report-only-4-of-games-make-profit/
Also, this article (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2008/11/25/only-20-percent-of-games-make-a-profit/1) clears up my 4% error, and I am glad you called me on it so I could find out where these numbers really came from. EEDAR (Electronic Entertainment Design and Research) did a study that mistakenly revealed that 4% of games make profit, and this number was reported in Forbes magazine. When EEDAR caught their mistake, they corrected it with the true figure: 20%. So, only 1 out of every 5 games that are developed make a profit. (Makes me wonder whether Capcom's most recent games made profit or not? I'll have to look into this later...)

Personally, I would like Nintendo to buy Capcom just to see Ryu and Megaman in Smash Bros.

Well, Capcom DID make some really good games over the years, even if they are cheap now. I mean, Legend of Zelda, the Minish cap is a good example. It's hard to say.
