PS4 Officially announced

so sony finally announced their next system. it surprised me how far in advance of the current console gen it is.

their focus seems to be making restrictions minimal, such as sharing content, communications etc.

the launch is much sooner than I expected too, with america getting the launch this year. alas, it appears europe will not see it this side of christmas though.

another surprise. they have hinted that in europe the cost would be about �300.

so they are selling the unit for about $460.

thats cheaper than the ps3, that set you back about �400 on launch.

theres speculation they will deliberatly sell there unit at loss to secure a large user base.

the main reason xbox 360 was such a contender to the current gen crown is they launched first and cheapest (although ps3 has outsold the 360 in every continent bar north america).

the ps4's succes could determine sonys future, they have lost money the last 4 years so this system has to be a success.

I think ps4 has smoked the 720 before its even launched from what iv read but who knows.

there are 2 things im not happy about though.

1st, the ps4 is NOT backward compatable.

At all.

And 2nd, its rumoured both microsoft and sonys consoles will activate your purchases.

translation: we may be about to witness the death of pre-owned games.

Wow, that is a lot of awesome features and improvement. Can't wait to get it when the prices go down. Hopefully it is better than Xbox 720.

So far I feel as if it's going to be pretty bad.

No backwards compatibility, except for the PSMove, and no 4K definition support.

No DualShock 3 either.

So that's what's bad about it, but I like the Vita compatibility, and the fact that the current games for it will be released.

I'm glad it's coming out this year, too.


Stickying.

This will hurt the Wii U even more.

I'm surprised at that low cost, only time will tell what it'll go for. It will be a great E3 this year. We will see the Ps4 and 720 in action with lots of features and Nintendo will be doing everything in it's power to come back from their bad launch by releasing a bunch of exciting trailers and the like.

patar4097 : They're not trying to eliminate the used games, the CEO of Sony said that they accept it, and will not be putting in any precautions to remove them.

The DualShock is the PlayStation controller, it's the best on the market. Truly amazing hardware, but I don't like the looks on the DualShock 4, and prefer the DualShock 3 more.

alexanyways : I'm not really a fan of any PS controllers though. The control sticks are better up higher. But it doesn't look much different. But what's up with the whole thing going on in the middle? The PS3 controller sure looks better. And I thought that they were saying that you wouldn't be able to use the discs on multiple PS4? Maybe I'm thinking about the Xbox 720 though. I think one of them said that they would do something like that.

alexanyways : potentialy, they may make old games playable via the cloud. Thats the speculation anyway. And i dont think the new controler is radicaly changed. And it has an inbuilt mike and touch screen aparently.

One of their reps said pre owned games would work on ps4 so its now very confusing what theyre planning.
There has been reports that they will lock disks to consoles. I really dont know what they plan to do. Id hope if they did lock them retailers would lower the average costs of games.

The thing in the center is either a touch screen or a touch pad.

  Well now we know sony is coming out with their next generation Playstation 4  later on this year and Nintendo s Wii u  is already out. So the question would be when is microsoft gonna release their next gen  Xbox ? they best do  it soon otherwise nintendo or sony is gonna dominate the gaming market with Their 8 generation consoles

I really think it'd be cool if online between consoles, and potentialy pc's, was linked.

Wii wouldnt dominate. They cater to a market. A sector that wants classic game franchises, or family entertainment. They cant take the hardend gamer community.

I'm super not impressed with anything I've seen so far. Seems like it's not any real improvement, just a few 'social' things tossed in. I have no interest in a touch pad or a video camera on my PS4. Sorry. 

The only thing I've read about it that seems even half-way ok is that they're building in the capability to shut off your console then power it back on and start your game exactly from where you left off. That's kind of cool.

As for the game locking issue, I hate it...but frankly I've seen it coming. They were going to find some way to destroy the used game market.

Its massively improved though. Loads of ram, processors, dedicated graphics card, usb 3.0 ports, its a pretty sweet piece of kit.

  thenumberone: well yeah seeing the speics of the ps4 and the already released wii u  yeah nintendo is gonna be hurting bad. its funny how nintendos systems seem to be like last Gen systems   these days.

thenumberone : Having it isn't enough; I haven't seen a single bit of video so far that looks like they're doing anything with it.
