I hated...HATED...the controls for Zelda on the Wii. I had to get a controller. Fighting was fine, but trying to jump was sheer torture, and I died a lot. Even the fighting got old after about the third fight. If I wanted to work that hard, I'd be out in the park learning to fight with real swords...

Oh, wait, I do that anyway. Right.

So anyway. The graphics for the Wii U look pretty good, but frankly, the whole Wii U thing just looks like a gimmick to me. The game would have to look really, really good for me to consider buying one.

Nintendo: Look at what great graphics we could make a Zelda game with, to bad we won't use them!

I may boycott the next Zelda if:

it's cell shaded

we have a repeat of Fi and constant slow text

I REALLY did NOT like Skyward Sword's constant text and fetch quests where the game sends you to gather things and tells you where 
they were, so what's the point?

I can see why you might be worried about the gamepad, it's the fact that using the buttons and the RZ trigger is so uncomfortable isn't it?

Sword legion : I didn't mind the cell shading in wind waker, but the shading in skyward sword bothered me in a weird way. I really don't think the enemies matched with the background, and I really don't think link looked like link should.

I believe the next Zelda could be a prequel to Skyward Sword( if you read the texts in-game, there was an even earlier incarnation of Link who was Hylia's Chosen Hero), as for the controls, we could see a Pro controller, Wii-pad, and/or Skyward Sword controls (to give players an option).

Careidina : I think a skyward sword prequel is out. Skyward sword is meant to be the one that started it all, and I don't think anyone would be pleased if they went "oh no, this one is"

I want to see a Four-Swords kind of thing on the Wii U. One person controls Link in sort of an alternate universe while four Links are on the main screen. The Link in the alternate universe can controls switches and stuff that affect the Links on the main screen. It can open doors, or give them items, or restore their health, etc. And if the Link on the bottom dies, then another can take his place.

Someone70 : The Zelda team has stated that they are trying to "Rethink the conventions of Zelda" They want to bring in co-op and change the linearity of the series. I am fine with the co-op aspect of it, as long as it is optional, because I play Zelda as my alone time game. If they do that, I think a four swords format would be best.

Hm, another idea popped into my head when you mentioned co-op. Maybe one person control Link on the main screen, and another person controls a second Link or another character on the controller screen. And then they'd go through, solve puzzles, fight baddies, etc. It'd be a good way to get, say, Zelda involved more with the gameplay.

Unless, you meant one of those genres as full-fledged (ex. just that genre and nothing else), then you got me there. As for the co-op, we could go with a hero that isn't Link like what Nintendo of Japan did with their Mascots in Zelda (ex. Hero of Light).
