I've noticed that there are a few areas where I cannot use the hyperlink button.  If I try to insert a hyper link into the game review area, or the Christian Conservatives area (for example, in my devotional), I get the following message: The area you are attempting to access is forbidden.

Is there a reason hyperlinks in these areas aren't allowed?

If you don't know, PLEASE don't spam my thread with that fact.  Don't post here at all.  It's annoying.

This is interesting, I just tried to post a hyperlink in your thread and the entire right column got fused into my post. If you view the reply to post page then it shows your post as mine. Someones layout or code must be glitching the rendering of page.

I try it again now:

Hmmm... it didn't in the actual thread, but it does when you look below the area for typing a response, like now.

Odd.

Do you think it's my layout code?
Or coding on the page?  Because I haven't been able to post hyperlinks in those two areas since before I created this layout.

Your hyperlinks here didn't work either, unless you purposefully didn't have them leading anywhere.

Its probably your layout, try removing your code from your first post and lets see if it fixes it.

Do you mean just by editing it, or by taking out my layout completely and THEN editing it?

As I said, I've had this problem ever since joining the site. I've only had this layout for two days, so I REALLY doubt it's the layout. I'm not closed to the idea though, since I don't know much about website coding.

Ok I went back to edit post and I forgot a quote. Maybe its cause I didn't sleep. Let me try again and see if quotes get erased.

TEST

EDIT: Yup I forgot a quote But that doesn't explain why its not working for you. Send me the code you use to post links.

That works. Does this mean that I can insert a hyperlink by directly typing in the correct formatting tags?

Why wouldn't the button work though? That's my question, really?

EDIT: I know how to do the formatting tags. It's the button in the editor that isn't working.

It's only in certain areas that it doesn't work. LOL, as stated in my first post. The Game Review area and Christian Conservatives area.

JigSaw :  You know, I was thinking about this in the shower (sad, I know. >.<), and I'm almost POSITIVE I know what it is.

See, this only EVER happens to me in the two areas I mentioned.  I thought about what you suggested (server errors), and then tried to think of why it might only happen in those two areas.  It hit me, what they have in common for me:  Those are the ONLY two areas I ever make really, really long posts in.  Usually I'm making 2000+ words in those areas, and so they take me 30+ minutes to write.  I bet you anything that the server is by then viewing me as idle and/or a guest, and that's why the button suddenly becomes 'forbidden' to me.

Thoughts?

Singelli : You are a genius you just solved the problem, I waited here for 30 mins and I
just saw the forbidden error after trying to make a hyperlink I
thought you were originally talking about a full white page forbidden
error but that is not the case here.

Davideo7 : We found the problem but you might want to look into a way to increase session or cookie time in this html editor, if it even uses those.

JigSaw : I think it uses sessions but I have no idea where to look to adjust that.  I suppose I could ask on the phphtmledit forum.

Singelli : For the time being, I'd recommend either using the old post editor or typing up your long posts in something like Microsoft Word and than exporting that (by clicking the import button).

Davideo7 : If you're just talking about changing the default session timeout, you'll need to change the ini file for PHP. If you know how to access the actual file itself, you can obviously edit it directly or you can use PHP code to alter the file. For the latter method, you can use an ini_set command with the parameters ’session.gc_maxlifetime’ and then the amount of time in seconds. For example, if you wanted 30 minutes, you can do:

ini_set(’session.gc_maxlifetime’, 1800);

Or if it's easier on you, you can just put in #*60 and just change that first number and let PHP automatically multiply that by 60 seconds so you're literally just changing the minutes.

You can read more here: http://prajapatinilesh.wordpress.com/2009/01/14/manually-set-php-session-timeout-php-session/

Crazy Li : I'm definitely familiar with PHP ini lol. I'm not sure how someone could run a successful site this large without making adjustments to it.

session.gc_maxlifetime is set to 1440 but I can change it to 3600.

Singelli : Let me know if that helps.

Davideo7 : Yes, but I don't like to make too many assumptions when offering help to people. It's not really good help if it's minimal detail and then we hafta shoot several more posts back and forth for the solution to be reached. I do apologize if it seems like I'm talking to you like you don't know anything about web programming or anything. I just try to give as much info as I can because I don't know what you do and don't know.

Davideo7 :
The change seems to have worked!  hurrah!  Thank you SO, SO much.

However, I have noticed something that MIGHT be related and might not be.  I'm a little unsure.

It seems as though whenever I spend a long time on making a response to something, that my layout coding doesn't work properly.  For example, this layout is set with a font of MV Boli, as are most my layouts.  However, more and more recently, when I hit submit, the font is automatically converted to Arial (or at least, I think it's Arial).  It happens most often on responses that take some time, but it also happens on some shorter posts that I make.  This is why I'm not sure if it's related or not.

This has happened in the past, but became more frequent in the past three weeks or so.

Now that's a really weird issue. I would think if something was causing your layout to fail, it would cause the entire layout to fail, not just the font face...

Can you think of any other connection with the posts that seemingly change font on you? Maybe where you're posting from at the time?

Also this might sound really silly, but are you sure the font for that post only changed or are you perhaps viewing it from a different computer that doesn't have the MV Boli font installed on it?

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
