OVERALL RATING: 6/10

For a game that pretty much mimics Mario Kart, I'd expect to rate such a game much higher.  However, due to the lack of tracks, I simply could not justify a higher score for this game.  Otherwise?  This really is a pretty decent game.  As I mentioned, it's basically exactly like Mario Kart in every shape and fashion.  It's got zany characters, quick and colorful tracks floating in strange colorful abysses, crazy obstacles to block your paths, and objects to disgruntle your opponents.  It's even got little yellow zippers to push your car past its maximum speed.

Thus, if you like Mario Kart but crave a variance in play, this might be a good game to try out.  Just don't expect it to keep you amused for too terribly long.  It's cute and somewhat simple, but there's not much to hold your interest after you go through the four tracks.  You might enjoy playing this in multi-player mode, but since this can't be played in netplay, that's worthless to discuss that here on vizzed.

GRAPHICS: 8/10
While the graphics aren't overbearingly attractive, they're not half bad either.  I think the color scheme of the first track is grotesque, but I can't deny it's colorful and besides that, the other tracks look much nicer.  The characters themselves are also colorful and cute, though a few of them look too similar for my taste.

One of the things I like about this game is how crazy the characters in the game are.  Whether you're talking about drivers, road obstacles, or opponent deterrents, the sprites are hilarious!  One of the things I find most amusing is that large walking boulders manage to hinder your racing just as effectively as little green caterpillars!  The other two critters that might try to block your path appear to be pink fairies and vultures resembling a starving and taller koopa troopa.

If you'd like the opportunity to bumble your opponents, there's just as entertaining and colorful an array of options.  You can drop tomatoes or ice cubes, or you can send forward ugly fish, mosquitoes, or disarmingly cute female images.  Each of these is demonstrated by a cute graphic, so it's never a disappointment to see them falling behind or zipping on ahead.

I like the fact that there are 12 sprites to choose from (four are unlockable), but there are other things in the game which aren't impressive  For example, track borders aren't always so clear, meaning that you can run into a sharp corner and then have trouble backing out of it.  Sometimes the front of your car will be facing in what appears to be a clear direction, but you find yourself still bumping into the border.    It's a little frustrating and seems to happen with almost every sharp curve.  Also, if any of the NPC's along the track find their way onto the edge of the track, they become 'stuck' and simply flip back and forth.  Due to poor imagine, they then appear to be conjoined twins with two heads.  This, however, is only reason to be amused, so I can't complain about it.

One other poor thing about the graphics is that they can be a bit monotonous at times.  If you drive along a straight stretch of road for more than a few seconds, the game almost seems to stop because you can't tell that you are moving forward. These moments are brief but leave you wondering if you let go of the gas button.  There simply needs to be a little more variance to the track backgrounds.

Sound: 8/10
I personally was not a fan of the game's music.  The first track's tune was the worst of it however.  It's not to my taste, but I can't deny that it's a lot cleaner that some game music, and luckily you don't have to endure the first track for very long.  I mainly give the game kudos in this category for at least having a different tune for every map.  That may only leave the player with 4 songs, but 4 songs is 3 songs better than one.  Also, I like the fact that the music changes on the last round in case you forget what lap you are on.  Although the 'last lap' music isn't my type either (and I found it annoying), the transition between the lap's norm and the finishing music is surprisingly smooth and without a glitch.  The change feels very natural, as though the creators of the music purposefully designed it so that it would mesh seamlessly.

Aside from the music, the game has few sounds.  Your driver makes a funny squeaking noise when you run into something, and each object you use has it's own funny sound, but everything is done in moderation.  The tidbits of noise aren't overdone and are actually a little cute.  Even the noise of the mosquito buzzing down the track isn't annoying, and it takes some skill to cause complacency with that sound!

Addictiveness: 6/10
Like I said earlier, the game lost a lot of potential due to the number of tracks it offers.  If this game had as many maps as Mario Kart, I'd be willing to call the games almost even.  Mario Kart, of course would be the winner, but only by a slim margin. Lack of tracks aside however, I could see myself playing this with other people and enjoying it far more.... IF my partner was a challenge.  With only four maps, I'd get pretty bored if I didn't feel as though I had to try in order to win.  Thus, my rating of 6 in this category is solely for the fact of being able to play with a partner.

Story: 5/10
Upon playing this game, it isn't obvious that the designers DID come up with a plot.  It's not mentioned in the game in even a single location, and there aren't any cut-scenes or 'end game' images that let you know what is going on.  For that reason, I was going to rate it a 1/10.  I simply thought it was a racing game, and racing games typically have no story.  Thus, imagine my surprise when I was researching the game to see if there were cheats which unlock more maps, and I discovered that the game DOES have a story!

According to my research, there is either a planet or a species of animals called Cocoto.  The Cocoto own a sacred pot, but it disappears.  If they don't find it quickly enough the creatures will lose their abilities.  The only way to regain those abilities is to defeat their enemies in cutthroat races.  The winner of these races gets to keep the pot.

As I read this, it suddenly dawned on me:  this game allows you to play the 'good guys' AND the 'bad guys'!  Four of the characters you can choose to play are the critters fighting to get their pot back, and the other four critters are their opponents who stole the pot.  Their leader even has a name:  Zaron.  How epic is this? Suddenly, a lot more about the game makes sense: namely the fact that each race type uses a pot as it's symbol, and that each championship category is some type of pot.

I thinks it's absolutely awesome that not only does this game have a story, but it allows you to play from either side!  True, racing is racing no mater who you choose as your driver, but the concept is really nice. It's a HUGE, HUGE disappointment to me that the designers of this game didn't fly with that, because there's SOOOO much that could have been done with it. Hence, I can only give this a 5/10.  All that squandered potential is heart- wrenching.  Plus, unless you did some research, there is absolutely nothing in game that lets you know the back story.

DEPTH: 5/10
Once more, the fact that there are only four tracks really brings the ratings down.  There aren't many tracks, but I do like the fact that there are 12 characters you can play, and that 4 of those are unlockable.  Unfortunately, some of the characters match in speed and handling, but this gives you the option to choose your character for appearance, also.  There aren't many differences in the handling and speed between the characters though, meaning there really isn't a point in picking a character based off its stats.

There are three modes of game play: championship, simple race, or multi- player.  (From what I can tell though, the multi- player option only shows up if you have actual consoles and link them up.)  You an also choose between three levels of difficulty and you only get the codes for the additional four drivers once you have completed each map in the championship( set at the hardest level).  I'm not sure why there are different championships to be honest unless they differ in difficulty as well.  However, when I tried to play various championships, I didn't notice a difference.

Therefore I've got to say that there really isn't much to do.  I mean, you can try the four races in each difficulty mode and try each of the four championships.  This would leave you with 48 races, but I'm sure you'd get bored long before the second time you got through the tracks.  Mainly, I rated the game with a depth of five simply because you can play as much as you want with another player.

DIFFICULTY: 3/10
I'd have to say that this game is easy- peasy.  There are two tracks which are beyond simple, and two tracks which are a lot more complicated.  If it weren't for the last two tracks, I would give this category a rating of 1.  The last two races, thankfully, have enough sharp turns and curves to make up for the more relaxed ones.

While the hardest mode was certainly harder than the others, I still found it to be a piece of cake.  This might be simply due to the fact that I've played a lot of racing games, but I didn't find myself often out of 1st place.  The few times I got stuck in one of the dodgy corners were the ones in which I fell behind and unless that happened on a final lap, I could usually catch back up.

I also tried various characters to compare the speed and handling.  Almost every time, whatever character I drove was quicker than the NPC drivers.  This was a little disappointing to say the least, and caused me to wonder if the speed and handling actually meant anything.  Even sharp turns were pretty easy to handle as long as you let off the gas.  -However-, one annoying aspect was that it didn't take long to come to a complete stop.  In fact, if you let go of the gas for about five seconds, you'd come to an almost immediate stop.  That was probably the worst aspect of the game and not something I've seen in a racing game before.

Even when you fall off a track, you're not hindered for very long and you re- appear on the track within a second or two, ready to continue.  There aren't very many areas this can happen and the few areas like this are small.  However, you also have this strange ability to accelerate to full speed within seconds.  It's not very realistic for a racing game, so I'm not sure if I liked that aspect or not.  It did cause the gaming to be easier, but sometimes more ease does not equal more fun.

Overall, I'm on the fence about recommending this one.  As I said in the beginning of my review, it's a good game if you want a break from Mario Kart. However, it's not worth an extended break from the better game and it's hard to justify playing more than a few races.  That being said, it's a pretty decent little game.  The fact that it's comparable to Mario Kart speaks volumes by itself.

Looks like you forgot to give the game a rating, you'll want to edit your post and put that in.

Yeah the game does look a lot like Mario kart but that's what would draw me to this game. Although I've never played this, that fact is the one thing that'd make me consider trying it out.

Davideo7 :   Huh... when I went to edit my post, all the ratings are there, actually.
I don't know why it didn't go through. Should I try submitting them a second time, because they're there alright.  I can take a screenshot to show you if you'd like.

The fact that the game is like Mario Kart is basically what drew me to it as well.  I would have rated the game SO much higher if it wasn't for the lack of maps though.  Only four... makes it a huge disappointment.

Singelli : I looked at the game page and saw your scores on there. Actually it looks like this is a problem for all reviews and appears to be a problem that occurred from an update I did months ago, I just realized it now.

Anyway, easy fix. Fixed.

Oh, awesome!  Thanks!  So the tables with the scores below the game's header on this page are supposed to be there, right?

Singelli : Yeap, they use to be there too. The intent was that it showed the average scores for the game and than the scores of the user reviewing the game. It adds more to the review.

Davideo7 : Ah, alright.  I think it's awesome then. I wasn't sure if it was a new feature or just something resulting from the error.  I agree to you about adding to the review.  It's very informative.

BluemageKyle :  Thanks so much.    I probably won't get to one until Sunday at the earliest though.  I just have too much on my plate in real life, since the end of the semester is coming near.  This time of the year is always hectic and chaotic for teachers.

Singelli : Great review but I can't help but feel that parts of your opening paragraph were better suited for a summary at the end.

Otherwise I thought it was very well written! Keep up the great work!
