I chose emulator help because I feel even if it is a netplay situation, it's about the genesis controller in the netplay.

So, onward towards the subject of this thread. Does the genesis netplay have a 6-button layout? A friend showed me with Alt+Shift and pressing a number, you can change controller ports. But I happened to recently play a 6 button layout required game, and was unable to play it as well as I normally would due to the lack of buttons. So I figured, what if I alt+shift to a different port, maybe there is a 6 button layout on player 3,4,5,6, or 7. No. Then I tried Alt+Shift and some letters, nothing.

If there is a key command for 6 button layout, I'd love to know. I'm not sure if there is a forum made by a moderator about how to change certain options in netplay, and I couldn't find it due to not knowing the name of the thread or location if it does exist. But if no 6 button layout for genesis exists, I guess there would only be a few games playable with friends on netplay for the time being until an option for the controller is added.

And yes there is a neyplay discussion thread and I realized, maybe I should have put it there, but I feel putting it in the emulator help makes it more accessible to a larger audience of those who don't have netplay and are planning on trying it once they do have it. It would be to allow more users to know about these problems so everyone can be aware rather than only those with netplay. Not to mention, it's more emulator related because it's about the controller, unless the fact that it's in netplay means it really does belong in netplay. Forgive me for my confusion if so, but, it was a hard choice.

This does bring up a very important question: why is the controller config for netplay different than the standard RGR plugin? If you double-click the game window, you normally get a pop-up for the Gens controller configuration. That screen allows things like switching controller types (3 button, 6 button... maybe even mouse). It looks like the netplay version was purposely re-written to force you to a 3-button config that is simplified. This feels like an unnecessary thing to do in my opinion.

Davideo7 : Do you know why this was done?

If there are any ways for the end user to change it, it'd be changed here:
http://mednafen.sourceforge.net/documentation/09x/md.html

It is possible for me to make it so that by default a 6-button controller is used for Genesis but I'm not sure if users would want to be forced to use that or not.

Davideo7 : I looked through the site over and over, but, I found no way on the site to change the config, and then I looked through the VGR plugin but found nothing that matched md.input.port1 so I could select or type gamepad6 somewhere. Sorry to bug you about this, but how might I go about changing the configuration to 6 button so that certain genesis games are playable?

Also, is it possible to play three button genesis games like Sonic with a 6 button controller? If so, in my honest opinion, I don't think anyone would at all be effected by it if they only need to concentrate on three buttons and not worry about the other three. I was also speaking to a few netplay friends, CryBaby asks if it's possible to make it optional for 3 or 6 button layout.

Yes, any 3 button game can be played with a 6-button controller. I owned an actual Genesis and 6-button controllers. Once I got the 6-button controllers, I never used the controller that came with the system again. There was no reason to since some games utilized the extra buttons, making them easier to play and others just ignored them and acted like it was a 3 button controller. There's absolutely no downside of having a 6-button controller "plugged in" to your Genesis.

I just made the update, Netplay Genesis should now use a 6 button controller. Try it out.

Davideo7 : Ok, it works as it should without any problems. I tried both my gamepad and keyboard.

I also realized, because you can press the escape button to clear key binds, players can essentially turn their gamepad into a three button layout if they want to just by pressing escape on everything else after A-C and turbo A-C. Then Players also have a choice of skipping the turbo A-C and X-Z buttons just by pressing escape. With the keyboard, netplay users actually have a wider variety of selections for setting all buttons. I like to use my street fighter set up of A,S,D,W; Y,U,I; H,J,K. But with turbo buttons that I have a choice to set, I can set the other 6 buttons above the arrow keys, on the keypad, or on T,O,P; G,L,;

Players can play mostly all of the 3 button and 6 button layout games and literally customize the controls how they want on both their gamepad and their keyboard, choosing for some buttons to be turbo, or all of them, or having no turbo buttons, or just three buttons. Thank you very much David.
