Ikari Warriors was a game ahead of its time. The gameplay is like modern Battlefield games, only this game was made in the 1980s on the NES. Because the game found early success in arcades this NES version was later made.

You take control of Colonel Ralf and must run and gun your way north through a near endless army of enemy's. Your mission is to reach the village of Ikari and save it from enemy control. The game was said to be inspired by one of my favorite movies, Rambo. The game play is one of the better shooting games made for the NES and really does a good job making you feel like you actually are Rambo. The reason I said this game was ahead of its time is because as you start out with just control of Colonel Ralf as you progress in the game you will find tanks that you will be able to commandeer. Its one of the few games this early which offered such a feature and is something that makes this game unique.

The controls for Ikari Warriors like any NES game are simple. The Dpad controls your characters direction. The A button throws grenades and the B button Fires your gun. While standing on a tank you can also use the A button to enter the tank and the B button to fire the tanks guns.

GRAPHICS: 8
The best thing done with the graphics are the special effects. The explosions and bullet fire give you a real sense of being on the battlefield. The character sprites are somewhat limited , with very little variation in the enemy's besides different colors. The game does feature multiple different terrains for some added variety.

SOUND: 6
The music of the game is average. It's not annoying but it doesn't really vary all too much throughout the entire game. Some of the special effect sounds are bland and also get repetitive. I think that is the biggest problem with the sound of the game, once you've gotten so far into the game you start realizing their is no new sounds just the same old.

ADDICTIVENESS: 8
The game play of this game is the big seller for Ikari Warriors. Running in like a single man lunatic shooting every enemy in your way so you can rescue the good guys is just plain fun.

STORY: 5
If you didn't read this review or first research this game you probably wouldn't realize their was very much story to it at all at first play. The game starts off with a small cut-scene of your plane crash landing where you begin the game. Even once you know the story is based off Rambo , its probably one of the more used cliche video game story's. At the same time , the story is a classic so I guess it all depends on how you look at it, but seeing as the game itself doesn't present hardly any story I rank this category low.

DEPTH: 9
Ikari Warriors is long and only the most veteran player will reach the village a success. It took me many hours just to get to the end of this game and that was non stop playing since the game doesn't innately offer a save feature. The game supports 2 player which always really boosts the depth score for me because I think multiplayer makes the games vastly more enjoyable and replayable. The game contains a score system which also adds the competitive edge to the game allowing users to compete for highscores in the Retro Game Room.

DIFFICULTY: 10
This game is difficult and not recommended for anyone who gives up easily. If you were to reach the village of Ikari without using the cheat code for this game even once I would be amazed, because I think it might just be impossible. I've only completed this game while using the cheat code and even then I had to use it more than once. The length of the game and amount of firepower thrown at you makes it extremely difficult to stay alive for long. You also must worry about a very limited supply of ammunition. Also when you begin to use the tanks in the game you will need to collect fuel to keep your tank running. Some people like myself enjoy a challenge which is something that can be said for this game.

OVERALL: 7.5
The game gets a solid 7.5 overall because it is a fun game for the NES although their are some better games for the system. Some parts of the game could have potentially been done better but it's the game play that truly makes this game worth a try. It's a great game for anyone looking for a quality multiplayer game. Fans of shooting games on the NES be sure to check out Ikari Warriors.

I don't care if I am going to rage quit a lot of time. The game sound really fun, and I really like to play classic games. I going to try it out when ti ten or past ten.
