sometimes you play a game and you just feel like you can't put it down. The overall sound, feel, challenge and sheer awesomeness will give you sleepless nights. Just thinking about how you are going to get past a level boss or maybe a puzzle can keep you wondering while at the dinner table. The frustration of a hard part will make you want to smash in the screen. The legend of Zelda: a link to the past will be one of those games, trust me.

first of all let me just state that this will be my first review. It just felt the right time and game to start off with and maybe get you guys to play this game too. After all we are talking about a Zelda game here!

starting the legend

booting up the game will give you a nice screen, with the familiar music we've come to know and love from previous Zelda games (yes I am assuming you have played Zelda games before because if you haven't. You should slap yourself in the face). I selected A link to the past, named my character and began the story. Starting the game will give you an introductory cutscene telling about whats going on now in the world of Hyrule. I don't want to give too many spoilers since story has always been a great deal in Zelda games and this one is no different. However, I'll lift the curtain a little bit. The king has been killed by an evil wizard, who has also been letting maidens mysteriously disappear. It is up to you as brave young link to save the day and stop the evil wizard from completing his plans to let the world fall in dark times. Come to think of it, A Link To The Past and Ocarina of Time have quite some similarities in the storyline. But that's for some other time.overall the twists and turns in the story will still have you surprised at some points.

traveling through hyrule

the graphics look nice and crisp, they really gave it an overhaul for the gameboy advanced. The way the enemies are portrayed are top notch and every time you swing your weapon at them. You can nearly feel the impact of the sword on said enemy. Maybe that's one of the reasons I've really grown fond of this game. Also, how the world looks on your map is just perfect, you can see where you need faster than you can say Zelda and that's quite an achievement for a world that big. Because big is one of the many words I'd use for this game's version of hyrule, big and beautiful.

getting killed, over and over again.

game over, the screen we all fear in any game will almost become one of your best acquaintances in this game. And I don't mean the type you drink a pint with or swap story's with while the hours pass. It's the kind of acquaintance who always annoys the crap out of you and overstays its welcome but somehow you have sympathy for.
This game is hard, unforgivingly hard at some points, the bosses start of easy and slowly graduate in frustrating monsters who will haunt you in your nightmares. The puzzles are cool and well thought through and will sometimes leave you feeling slightly retarded when you can not believe you hadn't seen the solution earlier.
However, that feeling of accomplishment, victory and euphoria (one of the main reasons we've become gamers, right?) when you kill an impossible boss, solve a ridiculously long puzzle or just get through a sequence of enemies without getting killed again, will keep you hooked for nights on end.

conclusion
The legend of Zelda: a link to the past is a great game for everyone who loves the series. It might be a little to deep for people who are new to the Zelda series and a little to hard for people who are looking for a casual experience. However I have had a ton of fun in this game and would love to come back to this story sometime. Given, it's not The Ocarina Of Time but it's the closest a top down 2D version of a Zelda game has ever been!

This is the first Zelda game that I play as a kid, and I die a lot in this game. I keep raging when I die, and have no more fairies. It a good game to play when I am bored. Nice review to.
