Dear Vizzed.com and anyone whom it may concern.

Hello, I am the Shogun Gamer, also known as Vizzed Shogun Gamer on youtube, and I have a suggestion to present to the Vizzed Board upon the subject of Light Gun/Crosshair games.

During my beta testing, I was searching page by page testing games I recognized from my childhood to see if they work or not. One of these games happened to be a rail shooter called Rail Chase. The object of this game is to protect yourselves from obstacles and enemies in your mine cart with your rapid fire gun, controlled by the cross hair on the screen. I've played this game long ago on a MAME emulator I used and was able to set up my controls on my gamepad how it would feel comfortable, quick, and smooth when I'd use my analog stick to aim as a please, or even my directional pad to digitally move the cursor. However, this time around, when I played the game on vizzed, I used the arrow keys to move the crosshair. The crosshair moved slowly on the screen, and aiming at many enemies on both sides of the screen was much too hard considering I would have to take them all down as fast as possible in a short amount of time. I thought to myself, "it's MAME, so I should be able to set my digital crosshair speed X and Y to a higher amount." To my misfortune, I couldn't, for there was no option on the control setup to do so.

It has come to my attention that if MAME is released December and this issue isn't noticed, games like Time Crisis, Rail Chase, and Jurassic Park, will be unplayable, at least so to say that the controls will make the games frustrating. I did make a forum relating this on the Rail Chase game page but realized, it won't be noticed unless it's in the correct sub forum, not mention, I lacked much sleep so I wasn't in my right mind.

https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=47823

My suggestion is to add the digital speed adjustments, and perhaps even the sensitivity and return to center speed adjustments (for those who use gamepads with analog sticks) to the mame set up controls with rail shooters, games that involve the light gun, and etc. Though making it specific would probably be much of a hassle and too much work to look through every game just to play some controls that could improve the gameplay; I would only recommend to take your time and not worry too much for I would never want to place any stress on the moderators of the site. I can't help but worry if it would be a lot of work, but it would be very much appreciated to add these control adjustments in the future.

I actually do have one more suggestion if you don't mind me editing this because I feel it's important to what I'm doing right now as a beta tester searching through 1000 pages of MAME. If a multi page skip engine would be possible, to skip 10 pages rather than just 1 every time, or even a bar to type in a page number and jump straight to it, would be very helpful. It really bothers me to close down my browser, or lose my history and have to go page by page back to the page number I was on. I searched 300 pages of MAME and, I wish I could skip straight back to it without pressing next 300 times. But, please don't bother with it if it's too much to deal with, for I can't have admins wasting time on something they could possibly find useless. And I certainly don't want to overwork the administration or I could never forgive myself after all that they have done for this wonderful community.

Thank you for everything moderators vizzed.com, always do your best, but don't push yourself too hard. With love to you all.

Love, Shogun Gamer

I have realized this may be the wrong section, but now I'm truly not sure if it is or not. For this situation regards the emulator itself and not truly the roms, but if it does regard the roms, it's in a universal matter almost. Either way, I'll will move this to the Retro Game Room Suggestions section to be safe.

Well, if the other thread was a dupe, my post still counts here -

Which internet browser have you tried? I tried the Rail Chase game with Firefox and had no problems with the cursor - it moved pretty quick just like the arcade.

About that 10 page skip question, Davideo7 is the only one who can implement it.

tRIUNE : I always use Firefox. But for me, not just Rail Chase but a few others, the cursor seemed to move slowly and it kept me from saving myself from getting killed in the game, since aiming back and forth on the screen was tough. On a MAME I used long ago, there are adjustable options (digital speed for using a d-pad or arrow keys) that you can reduce or increase the value of to your liking in order to speed up the crosshair's movement.

Then there is an even bigger problem, or at least one I had when I played Time Crisis. Instead of having a digital crosshair to move anywhere on the screen i desire without it moving back to the center, the cross hair jumped to the very right, left, top, and bottom of the screen only. There was no way for me to aim at anything to be honest. I don't know if it's my keyboard, but when I had tried my analog stick, I had control over it as the analog stick was the crosshair. This is another one of the problems I experienced, but can be fixed by changing the sensitivity of X and Y values, and the return to center speed value.

You understand what I mean right? It would be quite comfortable just to have faster speed for the crosshair if I'm really trying to go for a high score or die as little as possible, or even with the time crisis game, perhaps it was just my keyboard, but if there is a digital crosshair in the game somewhere, I'm sure it would be nice to be able to shoot down objects that move around in the game if the crosshair normal can't keep up with it due to lack of speed.

As for the 10 page skip, I won't bother David about it for he is quite a busy man.

Shogun Gamer : I don't have a beta tester's ticket, but if you use a controller with a USB port It makes all of the games easier.

ryan2000 : I just really feel sorry for those who don't. It almost feels unfair, but, I'm not too worried about the situation anymore. David mentioned that he'd have to pay Tom to get that feature in there, but there isn't really much he can do to enhance the MAME arcade. But, I guess it's ok to sacrifice a few games. I'm sure there won't be too many complaints, and perhaps many people have more gamepads than I think, but I wouldn't know that.

Anyway, since this issue is resolved in some form, I guess we can close down this thread. I'm sorry if it didn't last that long and if it would be a problem for Vizzed, but, that's that.

Yeah, I dunno - some games work better depending on your computer specs, that is, either better or worse - some game will works better if you have lesser quality computer specs and some with better quality... I don't know why, but that's what I've seen.
