Alright I want to take you back a bit, to the beginnings of a little game I would like to call Bomberman. In 1987 a strategic, maze-based game came to the US on the Nintendo Entertainment system. This game instantly became a hit. Bomberman has had over 70 titles to it’s name. I haven’t played them all. My first time playing it was on the PlayStation version, Bomberman world. >>

This game truly is a part of my childhood. I remember spending hours on that game. Bomberman can be classified the same category as Mario, as in it always has the same gameplay but still is a great game. The gameplay is simple. You go around the maze trying to blow up everything else without getting yourself blown up. >>

I got a hold of one of the latest versions, Bomberman live: Battlefest. Now this game isn’t exactly new, it came out in 2010. It was all the great gameplay I remember and more. They added several game modes including: capture the flag, paint bomb, and capture the crown. It also had something I was not familiar with, battles. I invited one of my friends over and we had a go. Both being big fans of the series, we spent hours trying out all of the different game modes. It was awesome. Each game mode brought a different challenge while still keeping true to the game’s heart. >>

One of my favorites was capture the flag. I was actually very skeptical with this one. Capture the flag did not seem to be something that would go well with Bomberman. I was proven way wrong. All the game modes were great. However, I did have a problem with one of them. Capture the crown was ok but had a few things I did not agree with. In capture the crown the goal is to get and hold onto the crown. Doing so will get you points. Whoever has the most points wins. >>

When the person with the crown gets blown up, the crown spawns in a random place. Normally I would not have a problem with this. However, the crown can sometimes have the tendency to spawn right in the middle of the crowed that was chasing it. This causes a big problem in team games when it causes you to have no idea which team has the crown and you don’t want to blow up your teammates. When it does spawn away from the group it normally takes about 3 seconds to spot it, for human players. >>

If you have computers on they always know where it is and immediately start heading towards it. This makes it very unfair if you have no other people to play with. You will find this problem very present for if you search the X-box live servers you will find no games. It really pains me to see a franchise from my childhood on its death bed. Bomberman has really begun to die off. Maybe I am over reacting. After all it is a family game on Xbox. However, Bomberman hasn’t seen a new game in two years. A game was supposed to be coming out for the 3DS but it was canceled. This could be one of the last chances for people to play a classic that truly had a big place in gaming history.

Time to get back on track. In conclusion Bomberman live: Battlefest is a great game. It is a great game to have around if you have a few guests over. If you have the money you should try it. The game is only 800 points ($10.00) in the Xbox marketplace. Spread the word, let’s see if we can revive this dead game.
