If you liked the original mega man series, then you'll love the X series. The X series is set in 21XX, 100 years after Dr. Wily was defeated at the hands of Mega Man. After the Mega Man series, Dr Thomas Light secretly created Mega Man X, also known as X, a robot that had the unique ability to make its own decisions. After creating X, Dr. Light realized that there was a possibility X might choose to turn against humankind. He also feared that even if X chose a beneficent path in life with regard to human welfare, people would inexorably be unable to accept him, viewing him as an abomination or a tool. To prevent X from choosing a life of evil, Dr. Light decided to hide X inside of a capsule for testing, but died before he could finish his diagnostic experiments.

One hundred years later, X's capsule was uncovered by the archaeologist Dr. Cain. Cain, with the help of X, created more robots that have X's free will, also known as "reploids", including the main antagonist of the X series, Sigma. However, X's circuitry wasn't duplicated perfectly, and a virus spread among the reploids turning them against humans (it is revealed in the second half of the series that Dr. Wily created the virus inside of Zero). The reploids became known as Mavericks, and a group of reploids unaffected by the virus formed a league to stop the Mavericks. They are known as the Maverick Hunters, led by Sigma. Unfortunately, Sigma caught the virus and betrayed the Maverick Hunters, eventually declaring war on humanity. Once Sigma went Maverick, X joined the Maverick Hunters, led now by Zero, to save the world from Sigma. And this begins Mega Man X.

The game begins on a highway where X progesses to meet Vile. After a loss, Zero comes in to save X. Sigma has gathered eight Mavericks to wreak havoc on eight different locations: Chill Penguin, Boomer Kuwanger, Storm Eagle, Flame Mammoth, Armored Armadillo, Sting Chameleon, Launch Octopus, and Spark Mandrill. Once X defeats these eight Mavericks, Zero leads X to Sigma's fortress, where Zero suffers a potentially fatal injury from Vile. X gets revenge by destroying Vile, then makes his way through Sigma's floating fortress, where he randomly reencounters every Maverick he faced on his ascension to the top of the tower. When X finally encounters Sigma, he faces off against Sigma's dog, Sigma, and Sigma's second form known as Velgauder. After Sigma is defeated, X escapes and the battle is over...or is it?

Few things to know about bosses:
Boss Name: Weakness/Weapon Obtained
Flame Mammoth: Storm Tornado/ Fire Wave
Chill Penguin: Fire Wave/ Shotgun Ice
Spark Mandrill: Shotgun Ice/ Electric Spark
Armored Armadillo: Electric Spark/ Rolling Shield
Launch Octopus: Rolling Shield/ Homing Torpedo
Boomer Kuwanger: Homing Torpedo/ Boomerang Cutter
Sting Chameleon: Boomerang Cutter/ Chameleon Sting
Storm Eagle: Chameleon Sting/ Storm Tornado
Vile: Roling Shield/ None
Maverick Spider: Shotgun Ice/ None
Rangda Bangda: Chameleon Sting/ None
Maverick Tank: Boomerang Cutter/ None
Sigma's Pet: Shotgun Ice/ None
Sigma: Electric Spark/ None
Velgauder: Rolling Shield/ None

Sound:
Very good for its time. The soundtrack is pretty good and kicked off many great themes to come from the X series.

Addictiveness:
This game can be pretty addictive to gamers who seek to complete the game 100%.

Depth:
Although not as much as the X games to come, Mega Man X provides a few upgrades and objectives. None too hard to obtain.
