I was wondering if anyone here has read the book 'Ready Player One' by Ernest Cline.
It is a really cool book and I feel like Vizzed fits in perfectly with the plot.

Story:

The year is 2044 and the world is in near-ruins. The Great Recession has taken its toll on the world's economy, and resources are scarce.
The Internet and gaming culture have evolved into a creation known as OASIS, a massive multiplayer online simulation game created by
James Halliday and Ogden Morrow of Gregarious Simulation Systems (GSS), formerly known as Gregarious Games. Halliday, with no
heirs or other living family, dies suddenly and leaves a video will to those in OASIS and a book that was dubbed Anorak's Almanac, which
purports to be a volume written by James Halliday's avatar Anorak in OASIS. The video says that whomever can collect three keys (Copper,
Jade, and Crystal) that are hidden throughout the universe of OASIS and pass through the matching gates will receive his fortune and
controlling stake in GSS. This becomes known as the Hunt and people immediately begin the search for Halliday's "egg," a reference to the first "Easter egg" in video game culture in the game Adventure.

If anyone has read this please let me know It would be fun to discuss it.

**Thanks for moving my post to the correct place**

Sounds like an interesting story. A good one really. Something like that could be made into a show or anime series (though it would resemble .Hack a bit). When did this come out?

This thread would go into the Stories/Simulation forum. There's a "Books" category that this fits in.

It was published on 16 August 2011. The plot summary doesn't even come close to doing it justice. It has tons of references to 80's retro video
games, movies, and music. The 'OASIS' is basically an Internet that you log into with a virtual avatar of yourself. Then you explore it with haptic
gloves and a visor as your input methods instead of a keyboard and mouse. Inside the OASIS you then have limitless ability. You can shop,
you can level up you can explore, you can visit planets that are dedicated to hosting game rooms ( like vizzed would have its own planet) You
can play any video game ever made within it. The plot itself is pretty cool and I think it would be a pretty unique and fun game if they attempted
to make it for XBOX360 or PC or something. They obviously couldn't do the VR stuff but they could make a decent game based on the idea of
the protagonist using a VR uplink to navigate through the OASIS.

Sometime this summer, I'm going to have to reread this book.

I loved "Ready Player One"-- enough that I'm willing to read it over and over again for the plot, the characters, the Easter eggs within the story. Like a lot of books set post economic crash/world chaos/ etc, it addresses questions people have about what the world would look like if what we know suddenly disappeared.

In "Ready Player One," the only way to cope with the awful truth that is the world, a virtual world exists. You go to school, live and function within a virtual world, where you can be whoever you want.
