The original purpose of the Layout thread was to post your layouts, and test it.

While the layout center will catch most bad layouts, sometimes it sneaks through.

Okay, I got people that really love this one, and I'm sure some people are just gonna flat out hate it, because of the blue text, maybe.

I wanted to make sure that blue text in a aero glass text box is alright with everyone...

BNuge : I had pi0x edit it a bit, because I noticed that on one of my longer posts, with the white text, it shows up in the moon. I had pi0x move the box down just a tad, and change the transparency? I wanted the picture to be really see'able. I wanted people that absolutely despise Naruto to think that this is at least a half way decent layout. Do you think it is better now?

Lalzo Falconi: I originally tested it to see if was scrollable... your page does not show that. I have seen one where the layout was stretched, because it was not scrollable. Anyway... what do you think of it now? Better?

Even if the rules do allow for testing in this thread, the idea that posting only to showoff your layout and ask for feedback is spam is completely nonsensical. That's the entire purpose of the thread. I'm pretty sure the only thing you can really test in this thread that you can't test on your own is how your layout appears on bigger screen. But even then the only way to know is through feedback.

In the layout editor you can click the little check box that says stretch with text to test your scrolling.

MegaRevolution1 : Looks sell-able, but you might want to fix the padding first. Too much space to the left, and not enough to the right on the inside of the text box. It still looks pretty good aside from that though.

BNuge : Here's an example to illustrate what I want:

Say I have a bg pic with a height of 800, but I don't want to to take up all 800 of the height for each and every post. So I set the base height to 500 or 600, and allow for stretch, but then use a div or something to put a cap on how far it stretches at 800, and then make it switch to scroll bars so it would stretch until it ran out of bg pic, then switch to scroll bars so it doesn't leave an empty space at the bottom or repeat or something. It should be possible to code this, I just don't know how.

Lazlo Falconi : Er... Was the max-height/min-height you mentioned to BNuge how this is supposed to be done? Like, instead of height:####, it would be max-height:####;min-height:###; ?

WarpStarFerret : Yeah, I thought that too. I was trying to move the text to the left to fix that, but I was unable to do so . I guess I really have no choice but to move the box more to the right, Nya~.

MegaRevolution1 : I'm not a coding wiz like Lazlo or pi0x so I could be wrong, but it looks to me like a simple padding problem. Try tinkering with the padding px a little, and see if that helps.

Dammit, Mega, get rid of the

tag in your header. That'll get rid of the "padding" on the left side of your text box. Then you can set an actual padding if you want a little spacing for your words (it looks a little better).

Give your idea a try in the layout editor and see if it works or not. You'll definitely need to use min-height and max-height to get it working.

Well this is what I did with what Warp was talking about...

You can't really tell that much, but it does stretch from 600px to 800px then switch to scrollbar if it goes past 800px tall.

Also I made the width 100% but the min-width 800px, I thought that was neat. It looks pretty cool to me.

WarpStarFerret : I know it's probably not the picture you wanted, but it has the functionality and you can use it if you want and change whatever you like.

pi0x : Oops, I didn't mean to imply that you have to have a scroll box if your layout is over 800px, just that we shouldn't have a ton of layouts that are huge even when they're empty!

Lazlo Falconi : I know you don't have to, I was just trying to do what Warp wanted to do. I realize it has a few, well, imperfections, but the image is quite large, so the layout has to be tall so the image doesn't look distorted.

I could slice off the part of the image that is Marth and the other guy,and just use a black background color and have the image stretch up and down only, I guess...

pi0x : I have a thought on that. Instead of making everything fall under the min-height/max-height rule, why don't you make a separate div for the text, and make IT follow that rule? If the text is following that rule, then the rest of the layout should do the same anyways since the text is central to the function of the layout, and then you can alter how the text area is configured to your liking and not just have it over to the side like that.

(P.S., I'm guessing on what you did. I don't know how to check your code. )

I like this idea, it could be used so people don't have to switch to another layout for a large post. It reconfigures itself up to 3x depending on the size of the post, and isn't all THAT much more code.
Dibs! (I kid. I never actually coded it, but at least it's my idea. Feel free to use it though, pi0x. I want a copy of the code when you're done though for coming up with the idea in the first place. )

P.S. Perfect example of why we need a thread to test a layout. This is the only way to find out if the code works.

And that's why we test. The picture stopped at 1200px, but the text kept going. Time to go tweak.

Edit2-
The post below this proves that test #2 fixed it.

I added min-height and max-height to my td tag and the div that i put within that td tag. I accounted for top and bottom padding. min-height is 305 px and max-height is 1005px. Hopefully this one works.

As I said before, a place to test is necessary. Plan B would be that we go back to the old way of doing things. Start posting without testing first. Back then an error may not appear until someone else posted after them. That meant a ton of extra work for the mods (running around editing the posts with bad code and chasing down the person who was posting with that layout).

BNuge : Would you mind making a small post here with that code? I want to see how it looks without the stretch, for curiosities sake. Also, I might try my hand at coding this myself at some point, but I don't quite feel up to it for now.
