BOMKATCHATKA! What is up, Vizzed! I'm fairly new... sort of. I'm starting a weekly opinion of a game/series of games. I'd like everyone to participate. Anything goes (besides trolling), negative reviews are cool.

Ah this is a good idea man!

So... I'm going to go ahead and ask what all everyone thinks about Other M. I didn't really have the time to play through the whole thing because I've been rolling with my first year of college, but I had a little bit to try it out. I thought that the game play was pretty cool, I liked how you could dodge and evade and all that stuff, it felt very actiony... even if it wasn't quite Metroid. The one thing I didn't like during my time playing was how clunky Missile lock on felt, but I guess it wasn't that big of a deal.

Since I didn't have time to play through, I still wanted to find out what happened with the story, so I looked at overviews, cut scenes, etc. One thing that seemed to be brought up a lot is that no one liked how the character of Samus was portrayed; in every other game, she was calm, logical and calculated, and rarely portrayed emotion. However, in this one, her emotions were all over the place; one thing that stands out to me is the cut scene where she encountered Ridley. At this point, she had already fought Ridley several times throughout the series, but her encounter in this game caused her to freeze up with fear and almost got her killed. I thought this was very uncharacteristic of Samus, and a lot of people didn't like this at all.

What all does everyone think about this? I understand that they were trying to develop a character, but I think that they developed it the wrong way... it didn't seem like the badass bounty hunter everyone loves, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I am totally with you, man. Samus was a bit of a pansy in Other M. I haven't completely played through it either, but it's ridiculous how she breaks up, especially with the scene where Adam sacrifices himself.

However, I've got sort of a new-found respect for Other M, due to the fact that it's also the prequel to Metroid Fusion (my favorite game in the Metroid series)

If it wasn't for Samus being so soft, Other M would immediately take # 1 on my favorites in Metroid.

I think that the best game to start off playing the Metroid series is Metroid Prime because it is easy to navigate and most people have a Game cube or a Wii.

I have loved Metroid for a long time, starting with the NES and loved it through the GBA years. Honestly I didn't like the games as much when they went first person. Don't get me wrong Prime was a great game, I just didn't have as much fun playing it as I did playing Super Metroid on the SNES.

I love the whole series, especially Prime 1 and Fusion. I liked Other M, but it borrows waaay too much from Fusion, to the point where it becomes almost a 2.5D version of the same game! Basically Team Ninja borrowed too heavily from the other games in terms of bosses and power ups and tried to be too different in creating Samus' personality. So those aspects sucked but the gameplay is solid and the story is decent enough.

Yeah, i'm more into the older Metroids. As I said, Fusion is my absolute favorite, no matter how badly I tend to suck at it

I only played the old games, similar to Castlevania with lot of exploration and secrets. The first one I played was Super Metroid or Metroid 3 released on SNES.

Oh and you know what? It's the 25th birthday of Metroid and... Nintendo didn't present any new Metroid game during the E3 this year if I'm correct. Not even a remake or a collection. It stinks seriously, I want to say '

I am into more int the prime series, because they are better in my opinion. It just have better controls, weapons, and include some of the old stuff back like the spider ball.

I've played every Metroid game that wasn't a spinoff, and I loved them all except Other M. Couldn't really get over the bad missile control, the overly dark environments, and those stupid sections where they force you to look for something in first person and you really have no idea what it is, so good luck finding it without a game guide.

But actually, I'd rather talk about Metroid 2, since everyone seems to skip that one. I did play with a map, but that was it. I actually found it a lot of fun, despite its primitiveness. Yeah, it's short and the graphics are underdeveloped and the lava kinda prevents too much exploration, but I found ways to sequence break anyway. If there's one thing it could have used, it's more Metroid variety, but I'll chalk it up to limitations of the Gameboy. I wonder why they never brought back the Spider Ball for 2D, it was a really useful feature; much easier to use than the Space Jump, mind you. But I'd say if you're a fan, check it out. It may look like the awful NES original (which we now have Zero Mission to make obsolete), but it's much improved.

My favorite is probably Fusion or 2: Return of Samus. I really liked Other M, but it was way to dramatic and the control were weird. Probably would have been better if it used the nunchuk. I love the second game because of its awesome soundtrack and exploration.

Metroid is a great series... one of my favorites. Of them, Metroid Prime 1 would be my favorite, maybe because it was the first Gamecube game I owned, maybe because I love the atmosphere... ahh it's just too great!

I think Nintendo needs to do another 3rd person Metroid, but not like Other M.

The problem I have with Other M is mainly that Seamus is portrayed as a very moody and kind of rude young adult, which I feel isn't what she would be from playing all the other games. I share that exact opinion.
Other M was a demonstration of how NOT to make a Metroid game.
It was kind of pathetic... watching Samus panic after everything, but she's supposed to be the most awesome, calm, collected female bounty hunter in the universe.
And don't you argue
Except in the case of Other M...

Yeah, but some of those mysteries still remain unsolved, because in Metroid Fusion, guess what:
You have to fight and kill Ridley again.
AGAIN.
For the third time, and it's the final Large core X boss.
Which still makes kind of no sense.
And that's why the game is so awesome, that, with its gripping storyline and awesome graphics/music that really set the mood.
Believe me, I was scared while playing that game several times.
