In my opinion, this is one of the best racing games out there for Nintendo 64, ever. Alright... let us begin the evaluation of the game. For Graphics, I am going to give this game a compete ten (10). I am giving this game a ten in graphics because for the time that game was made and released, it is very well done. The texture of the characters is done very well for a game that was made in the mid the late 90's, and very inept to. The tracks are very well done. However, the backgrounds might not be the best, but with how good the graphics are, the backgrounds graphics is canceled out... That is my reasoning for giving graphics a 10. I am going to give the sound a nine (9). I am giving the sound a solid and very respectable nine because even though the music during the races are repetitive beats, they are still catchy. The back round music on the title screen is fairly decent. And the sounds for all the weapons and when you hit people, get squashed, so on and so forth... it just amazes me. The sound quality is real good too, but I touch more on that when I get to Overall and depth. That is why I am giving this game a 9 for sounds. I am going to give this game a very impressive ten (10) for addictiveness. I gave my Nintendo 64 away years ago... to a friend who was collecting games, but had no console to play them on. I had just gotten a Play Station 2, so i gladly gave it to him. I instantly regretted it, because I could no longer play Mario kart 64. He told me I could come over and play with him when ever. That is how addictive that game is... I wanted my Nintendo 64 back just so I could play this game. I used every character, on every track, and was always begging family and friends to play with me so I could have some new competition. I probably beat the game entirely and deleted my data, only to repeat the process over maybe some twenty times a year for almost four years. I knew everything there was to know about that game. It was the most addicting game I have ever played for Nintendo 64. That is why I am giving this game a huge 10 for addictiveness. I am going to give this game a seven (7) in Story. I am giving it just a seven because there really is not much of a story line, other than, beat this Grand Pre to do the next one. However, it was pretty fun to switch around a lot, so I am giving it a seven because it was fun enough to play over and over again. I am going to give this game a seven (7) in Depth. This game has a good bit oftracks... not as much as others, but still a good bit for a Mario Racing game in the 90's for the Nintendo 64. I9.1 know all the tricks to each track, and it took awhile to learn them. But still, the depth is not perfect, and it is not mediocre either. That game offers a decent bit of tracks, but it could use a few more characters, like Mario kart Wii has. Not as many, but maybe 2 or 4 more would be fine. It just does not have a lot of characters. The tracks have decent depth, because once you get far enough along in the game, you get to do them backwards That is why I am giving this game a seven (7) in depth. I am going to give this game a seven (7) in difficulty. The reason for this being is the weapons that you get to use. They really complicate things. And then some tracks have... obstacles, to say in the simplest of term. Is can be a bother on some tracks, on others, it can really help. And then there are a few short cuts in a couple of tracks. Not bad. This is what a good review should look like. You explained very well what you liked and why. A couple of things:
You can give the Story section a blank score or N/A if there is no story, like in Mario Kart 64. You don't have to say "That is why I give this game a..." at the end of every paragraph. It's very repetitive, at least to me. But overall, it's a good review. Mario Kart in general is a great racing game for the young kids in the 90's and today. This Mario Kart is my personal favorite for a few reasons.
1. I grew up with this game. 2. Its great for multiplayer. 3. Rainbow Road 4. All of its sound tracks. I LOVE Rainbow Road's music. I can listen to it for hours. pacman1755 : yeah... I love rainbow road, but they kind of did it an injustice on the Wii version. The track I hate the most is the Yoshi one. That one is annoying like crap. But like I mentioned... I know ALL the tricks to this game. I just wish there was LAN game play on vizzed. That would be freaking epic. |

thing1 : Yeah for Mario Kart Wii, everything was alright...until you went to Rainbow Road. Its pretty cheap to be honest about it. You have a crap ton of traps, and barely enough room to race. It sucks to play online when you play against the dirty players or whatnot. |

pacman1755 : I am not afraid to admit it:: i am a very dirty player. But I play fair until people start ticking me off... then I make every body else's life hell until they have learned their lesson. They are especially bad on Nascar 2011. If you can find a group of clean players to play with, then you have had a very good turn of events. |

I thought the review was done very well. It was thorough, long without having a bunch of useless filler crap, and you clearly played the game enough to do a proper review. I have seen people make reviews where it was obvious that they played the game for an hour or two. When they do that, they dock the score in story, depth, or other parts that just don't develop until later in the game, and they dock it because they don't really know about it. Like I said, it is clear you played through the game enough to do it well. With that said, i have ONE critique. The scores are off balance to me. Here is what I mean. Here is the list of the scores you gave: 10, 9, 10, 7, 7, 7. But then the game overall gets a perfect 10. I think if a game is going to get an overall score of 10, the scores in the other categories should remotely reflect that. In my opinion, overall score of 10 means almost no flaws that you can see. When you have three things int he games that get a score of 7, there are clearly flaws in your opinion. I'm not saying you should do what I do and do an exact averaging of your score to determine the overall. Just try to make your overall score reflect the scores in your other categories a little more. If that is the case, I would just explain in your overall score why you scored it differently. This is still a solid review. |
