I hate them so much. There are plenty of fanboys out there for some game franchises, but Sonic fanboys are by far the worst. I first heard of them when I saw a flame war over Sonic's green eyes. For Christ's sake, they're just eyes! DO they affect the game in any way, shape, or form? No they don't. That's why I don't even think of complaining. Another thing I once saw a flame war over is anything in Sonic games that is even remotely slow. That is exactly why some Sonic games out there don't get the appreciation they deserve. Just because it's slow doesn't mean its bad. Put whatever it is in some other franchise game, and their wouldn't be any complaints. And I saw some complaints about how Sky Sanctuary in Sonic Generations is a horrible level. Why? Not yellow enough, like in Sonic & Knuckles. Come on, seriously? How does it affect the game in anyway? Does it ruin the nostalgia or something? Gah, I don't even know. Probably the only instance of fanboy complaints that I can somewhat understand is the "Monster of the Week" formula, which are complaints about how some of the 3D Sonic games final bosses are just giant monsters pulled straight out of Sega's ash. Again, I can only understand that to an extent. Fights with those monsters are usually epic, and fights with Eggman aren't very epic, just nostalgic for the most part. I've also seen complaints of all the voice actors in general. They complain about the first set that we got to know in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, then when they get the voice actors from Sonic X, they complain about them and beg for the original voice actors back. And when they recently got new voices for Sonic Colors and Generations, the fanboys did the exact same thing. It's all just flat out retarded. they And I recently saw the little fanboy rant over Sonic's mouth. The moment I saw that, I literally facepalmed. It's just so frickin stupid. And I'm inclined to believe that some of the fanboys demands flat out ruined the awesomeness Sega could have put into games like Sonic 06 or Sonic 4, but that's just my opinion. IT really just baffles me what makes Sonic so special. I don't see these types of complaints over any other video game franchise. Just Sonic. Why? Questions that will probably never be answered. What these stupid fanboys don't understand is that keeping SOnic in his old Genesis style would never work. Just imagine if Sega released game after game of Sonic doing what the fanboys want, just running jumping, and rolling with speed. It would get boring real quick. I'm glad Sega made the jump to 3D and tried out all of these ideas. Sonic Adventure was awesome for keeping a sense of speed Sonic games are known for and introducing some fun elements, such as the Twinkle Circuit (at least I thought it was fun), Knuckles' treasure hunting levels, Gamma's shooting levels, and overall awesomeness. Sonic Adventure 2 did the same, but expanded on Gamma's shooting gimmick and made them into full playable levels for Tails and Eggman, which I loved. I also liked the story, best in the series so far. Sonic Heroes brought in teamwork, and although the overall stability of the gameplay could've been improved, it still did well. Sonic 06 was just fail. Sonic Unleashed was so well made, with epic speed levels, awesome Werehog levels, great voice acting, basically all the good things a 3D Sonic games should have. I think I should stop here to be honest, but I think you get the idea. I hate them so much. There are plenty of fanboys out there for some game franchises, but Sonic fanboys are by far the worst.
