rpgs today such as Skyrim I could care less about the plot because of the annoying twenty minute exposition every hour of game play older rpgs such as Pokémon, the mother series, or final fantasy five don't take the plot too seriously I'm not saying the plot isn't good I'm just saying these games are fun to play. Because when I play a video game I don't like text heavy rpgs I want to play and have fun. Please post if you agree or disagree and if you can think of other games that are fun to play because I would like to try them.

i disagree, heavy text aids the rpg because its more real, and it helps define the game progression and your knowledge of certain factors in the games plot.

I think text heavy RPG's are great because it's what puts you into the world of it the most. I don't really mind if they're modern or retro. You can build a good story at any time.

I agree with thenumberone and Someone70 on this one. I am a sticker for a good highly developed story in a game. They make me feel more involved and make me care more about what I am doing. However, I understand how pure text heavy dialogue can make it drag. That is why I prefer it if they have voice acting along with the text for the times I don't feel like just reading all the talking. Although, some of them, it just fits better, such as super Mario RPG or the Legend of Zelda games.

I sort of agree with you, but mainly for different reasons. To me, an RPG is more like a slightly interactive book or movie. I'm playing for the story, not for endlessly killing baddies whilst walking around to get the highest level and the best weapons. I guess that's why I never really got into MMOs. But the problem is that the vast majority of stories being told these days just aren't interesting, at least, not to me.

I play RPGs so I can enjoy the story-line, build rapport with the characters, and be immersed in their world.  An RPG without a story-line ends up being a button-masher that is just a fighting game.  Plot development needs to happen to give a sense of a true world.

If I didn't want any story, I'd just go play a fighting game.
