I have a question.  Wouldn't there be security cameras around the crime scene that would give us clues as to whom might be around there?.  Even if we can't get a perfect identification we still we get clues as to who the perp looks like.

Now that I am back in the house, please accept this apology card *hands apology card to everyone in the room, including someone*. I had reason to believe that Reddy might be a suspect at the time. But now I know it can not be. You see, my father has a special job in the Army, and I have enlisted his help. He says based on the clues that we currently have, it can't be Reddy, but nothing else is sure. He also says that maybe we should ask David when he changed the code, why he changed the code, and why he did not tell Reddy about the code change, as well as wait on another letter from the Doc.
