My favorites are the third generation, of which I played Ruby, LG, and Emerald. Things started looking brighter and more realistic and the graphics and music are some of my favorites. For me, these games are right on the dividing line between classic and modern.

I like Pokémon white because mainly because it good for competitive play and it has qualities like random match up as well as new types of battle like rotation and triple battles. I've played them all except diamond, pearl, platinum, and the blacks and whites. I think Soul Silver/Heart Gold are my favorites. When Gold, Silver, and Crystal came out, I felt they were severely lacking in extra optional activities. You also couldn't capture any of the legendaries from R/B/Y. SS/HG, improved on, and fixed all of the problems G/S/C had. Second Gen has always been my favorite Generation, so I was extremely happy with the improvements.
