To begin with, there will only be a few items on the levels. In the future there will be more items and there will also be weapons, but for now we'll just keep it simple and basic.

There are 2 different attributes an item can have; appearance type and movement type.
Appearance type is how it appears on the level and movement type is how it moves around (or if it is still and doesn’t move). The appearance type basically applies to what holds the item (if anything) and the movement type basically applies to the item itself when it appears on the level (if it does).

Use Super Mario Bros game for example. You jump up to hit a question mark block and a mushroom pops out. The question mark block would be the Appearance type and the mushroom itself would be the movement type.

Appearance Types :
Hittable Item Block: If you hit it, the item will rise out the top of this block. This blocks graphic will than change and you can no longer hit it for another item. After about 30 – 90 seconds (this is random; I would also like to specify the seconds depending on item), the block will go back to it’s previous graphic and you can hit it again for another item. This continues to happen throughout the level.

Breakable Item Block: If you hit this block, the item is automatically applied to your character. The item does not appear in anyway. After hitting this block, it disappears and will reappear randomly between 30 – 90 seconds (this is random; I would also like to specify the seconds depending on item).

Breakable Random Item Block: This block has a 10% chance of containing the item you specify. If you hit it and it doesn’t contain anything, it breaks and never reappears. However, if it does contain something, the item will rise out the top and the graphic of this block will change and stay the same graphic the rest of the level and will never contain anything. You can specify this block to contain more than 1 type of item; so for example, if it can contain 2 different items, than between those 2 items, you have a 20% chance that you’ll get an item.

Fall from sky: This item will randomly fall from the sky somewhere (within an area that would be capable of falling onto a surface) and keep falling until it hits a surface or until it hits someone. When it hits the surface (aka ground), it will stay there until someone grabs it.

Appear: This item will just appear where it is specified to appear right when the level starts. Once someone grabs it, it disappears and will reappear in the same exact spot after a specified amount of time.

Appear Randomly: This is similar to ‘Appear’, except this will not appear right away, it will appear after a specified amount of time and will also reappear after a specified amount of time.

Bad Guy falls out of sky: This is a ‘bad guy’ who falls out of the sky at any random position (within an area that would be capable of falling onto a surface). Once he lands, he walks around randomly either left or right (and switches which way he goes after hitting a wall or until he falls off an edge or is killed). If you destroy him, he turns into an item. Depending on bad guy, you may be able to jump directly on top of him to hurt him, I want to be able to specify whether this is possible. I also want to be able to specify how much damage he does when he touches you and how fast he moves. It only takes one hit to kill him (he’ll just disappear by fading away) and he does not shoot anything. This guy will only have 2 animations, a walk right animation and a walk left animation, both which will probably be 5 frames each; also when he gets hit, he stops moving all together.



Movement Types :
Run: This item will rise out the top of the block which has been hit and randomly either move left or right. Gravity applies to it so it may fall left or right (though it will fall slower than a character) and land on a surface and keep going. If it hits a wall, it turns around and goes the other direction; it keeps doing this until either a character gets it or until it falls off an edge. I should also be able to specify how fast it moves.

Still: This item will rise out the top of the block which has been hit and will not move; it will stay there until someone grabs it.



NOTE: The items will look different depending on which level they are on (and on some levels they may even move). For example, an item which increases your health by 40 may be a mushroom on Mario levels and a coin on the Sonic level. Than there are items that will look and act the same on all levels.

2ND NOTE: A block (not item but a block which contains an item) that appears can only appear as long as there’s no one in the spot of where they item is going to appear and as long as no one is within 10 pixels way (in all directions) from that item. If an item or block is ready to appear, it will wait until the character is out of the way and than will appear.

Below are all the different items, how they look, move and appear.





Health Up Items:

Mario Level (and luigi level)

Increases health by 40
On the Mario level, there will be 2 different ways the health will appear;
Question Mark Block-
Appearance Type: Hittable Item Block;
Movement Type: Run
Random Power Brick Block-
Appearance Type: Breakable Random Item Block (the other item would be Flower)

Increase energy by 25
On the Mario level, there will be 2 different ways the energy will appear.

Sonic Level (and tails level)

Increase health by 10
Coin (in original sonic game they acted as both coins and health)
Appearance Type: Appear; 60 seconds
Movement Type: Still

Energy Block (in original sonic game it made you temporarily invincible)
Appearance Type: Breakable Item Block
Movement Type: None


Mega Man Level

Increase health by 20
Small health up
Appearance Type: Appear Randomly; first appearance of 0 – 60 seconds :: 30 – 160 seconds afterward
Movement Type: Still

Increase health all the way
Big health up
Appearance Type: Bad guy falls out of sky; every 30 – 240 seconds
Movement Type: Still

Increase energy by 15
