I'm debating on whether I want to make Vizzed Ville into a flash game. This would be based on the one I made for RPG Maker 95, but this time not only would it be faster to make, but anyone on the board would be able to help out.

We'd be using the same graphics and probably the same music (which isn't original), as well as the same concept. Download and try out the RPG Maker 95 game I had started a few years ago https://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/thread.php?id=3032 to get an idea of what this is about and how it'd look.

Anyone would be able to participate, and here are all the possible ways members could participate:

-Tell me what you want your character to say and/or do in the Day time and Night (they a morning bird and only appear in the morning? a night owel that only is around at night? or always out and don't sleep); where do they usually hang out (do they hang out at the arcade, vizzed cafe, cid's pub, the mall, church, the university, walk the streets, stay inside their house, the bank, town hall, visit other people's houses, etc)

-Be in charge of designing the insides of each persons house and taking requests from the members of how they want their house to look and what items a person can look at and what it says when the person looks at those items

-Say how you want your house to look and stuff (the person(s) in the task above would be in charge of taking your request)

-Create character sprites; must have the RPG Maker 95 look to it (create your own sprite and/or sprites of other well known vizzed board members; 50+ members I have either found, edited or made sprites for but we don't have to keep specific sprites that I've assigned to specific members)

-Find or create town graphics (must have rpg maker 95 look); graphics for the town such as houses, tree's, park items, vehicles, etc...

-Find or create inside building graphics (again, must have rpg maker 95 look); beds, items, bookshelves, floors, walls, windows, computer desks, chairs, desks, dinner and food items, electronics, etc

-Give idea's for events in the game

-In charge of audio; not only would this person do the editing of audio (compressing it, changing it's file format, etc) but they'd also be in charge of finding sound effects and/or music


The following are ways members could help with some flash experience:

-Turn graphics into 'Movie Clips'; all graphics must have names to them and must contain instance names and/or action script

-Animate characters into their own 'Movie Clips'; characters must have 2 frames of animation when facing each of the 4 directions (so basically make a movie clip for each character and it'd contain 4 keyframes with a stop action on the first frame and on each of those frames it'd have an animation for that character facing that specific direction; so for example, on frame 1 of the character, you'd have the face down animation of that specific character)


The following are ways members could help with plenty of flash experience:

-Create the action script for how the game works, functions, etc

-Put the town together (most likely me)

-Put together cutscenes (this would be the only time we'd use vector graphics)

-Fix spelling errors and test game out back to front several times (test it many times even when it's in development)


Other possible tasks that require skills:

-Be in charge of structering the vizzed board database and making it so that users can have their game stats submitted to board

-This is a possibility: be in charge of making it so that the game loads the users information (in other words, user must be logged into vizzed board); game than takes their username and assigns them to play as their own character and possibly even loads their board stats

Awesome idea David! I am all for it. I don't know squat about flash, but I'll post up some of the character info you need (about me)

I could help with ideas and give you more info on what I should say.

I'll take the bottom two .
Can we just load stats from the board into the game rather than send stats from game to the board (I dont follow why you'd want to do it backwards though..)

Possible Ideas:
- Item shop in game
- Battle Arena in game
- Arcade from in game
- Quests
- MMORPG ?

We could go both ways...the reason why we'd send from the game to the board is for people to make records, sorta like the arcade.


This could almost just be turned into an MMORPG using that Flash server...hmmmmmm..............

Could give it a try. Or maybe we can make a public room to start off, where you can have a charater, move around, and talk and stuff.

Yeah, start small. If you get ahead of yourself you will get overwhelmed and the project will remain unfinished.

I would like to help though I am bad with flash, but I could give you some ideas.

Just look at the list of positions and choose which you could or would like to do.

I will design the insides of the houses, but I will need someone else to draw them on flash

There's on drawing involved with that task, you'll be given all the graphics, sprites, etc and you just arrange them however. You would probably need a copy of flash though, but it'd be very simple to arrange the insides of the houses.

Flash player, or flash flash?

Yeah, big difference between the User End Flash Player... the one attached toyour browser for example... and the Development Software by Macromedia/Adobe.

I think Lieutenant Vicktz gave him a copy.

David, is it possible to create the graphics properly, like full on awesomeness, than have someone (wink wink) develop a macro for Adobe to pixel, color reduce and generally screw the image over... then we could take board members ACTUAL photos, tidy them up to remove backgrounds, balance light ect... then BAM instant sprite... face... What ya think?

Well I did like the RPG Maker 95 look but it's possible to take on a whole new look...would be far more time consuming. What do you mean develop a macro for Adobe to pixel? Would be cool though to have the characters look exactly like the person, could have a character editor I suppose, one like the Wii has.

Hmm... not really redraw everything... Merley redraw major elements to be reused... and changed slightly to add major affect. A wall, is a wall... and in Adobe its color, pattern and Pixelness can be changed easily

And a Macro for Adobe... or "Action" to pixel would be, to 'record' the use of tools to pixel an image, and apply it to all images that we need to... It isnt difficulty to do jes a matter of developing the right action...
