This game was one of the first slide-scrolling shooters out there and is diffidently a classic. It began on an arcade machine in 1982, but sadly Vizzed doesn't support that kind of console on this website, but thankfully some people have made hacks to import them on certain consoles, such as the Atari 2600 and the NES. This one seems closest to the original, with one small factor that the beacons and bonus flags are missing, but that's ok, because the epicness of this game still stands in this version. So lets have a look at this game and see what it has to offer.

So the story goes a little like this: Man-kind seek to discover aliens. They then discover that aliens are really man-kind themselves. Ironic, don't you think? They are known as the Xevious, and they want their planet back. Why do they want it back when they were living on a planet in the first place? They left for a reason. It can't be for the technology, as they clearly had the stuff to leave earth in the first place. Hey, they might be even more advanced than us. Well, for what ever reason, they seek to conquer. You - the one-man army of this game - must defeat the on-coming Xevious and save the world.

Now we have the story out of the way, lets focus on the game play. You have two weapons, your lazer bullet things, and your lazer bomb things. Your lazer bullets destroy enemies in the sky. Your lazer bombs destroy enemies on the ground. See that blue square with the white cross in it? That marks where your lazer bomb will land. This is a nice idea for game play, as you constantly have to focus on the sky and ground. They both fire lazer bullet things at you, so you also have to keep an eye on that as well. You'll find yourself trusting your instincts half the time when getting past some parts....Or is that just me? There are several types of enemies on both the ground and sky, including black dots, rotating cog like things, and tanks that don't attack.

The stages are split up into areas. There are 16 areas to blast your way though. When you reach a forest, then that marks the end of a stage. If you get through about 70% of a stage, and then die, the game takes mercy on you and it'll take you to the next stage. How thoughtful. The stages get hard as you progress, of course, and you'll even meet some bosses, or more accurately,  the same boss over and over. You get an extra life depending on how many points you have. 20,000 will get you your first extra life, getting 40,000 more points gets you your second extra life. And from there on, every 60,000 points grants you an extra life. The music is very repetitive, and only has two different songs in it. The level song and the start up song. The start up song is short and pretty nice. the level song is about 4-5 seconds long and is very repetitive. It's not bad, as repetitive music goes, but they could have added some more music in. At least a song for the boss would have been nice. The graphics are simple but effective. That's all I can say on the matter.

Overall, I give this game 9.1/10 The game play is the main thing in this game. It's addictiveness gets me coming back to get further. I've made it to zone 09, can you make it further? I would have put this as a depth of 8, but the hidden beacons and bonus flags seem to be missing. But apart from that this game is your classic shooter game. It's worth a play. This game can be highly addictive. When you first play, you might get a game over very soon. You can choose not to play anymore, or you can continue to play, and throw back the Xevious and show them who's planet it really is!

Xevious is an all time classic in the arcade and this just brings the arcade machine to your home.

Hm...haven't heard of this game, but the screenshots of it look fun, so I might check it out. Super Review.
