I find it funny that something so simple can be considered a luxury. Just as much as I wish I did not have to use the back door I do not let it bother me. Something like this should be the last thing I ever complain about.

noelia : This one should do nicely.

Lol, I do like AuraBlaze's smiley.

I actually do have many of the ABC's Favorited. I just don't post in them that much. Actually once you acquire a certain post count number is irrelevant it feels just the way you get there.

geeogree : Irene is currently a tropical storm. Its center appears to be just north of Long Island according to the NOAA. Lower Manhattan is flooded, and I think 3 million are without power across the East Coast. Also from the Nation Hurricane Center, Hurricane Jose is on its way and two more storms are brewing off the coast of Africa. The storms close to Africa, however, are not certain to form hurricanes.

noelia : I wouldn't expect you to.... your country isn't get hit by one.

Yeah, I'm hearing bits and pieces through facebook. Most people are okay.... lots of broken trees and the like but not much else serious.

I'm sure there have been other serious incidents.... but not from anyone I know yet.

Yeah there were a few casualties, but as far as I know the death toll hasn't hit 50.

But then of course the last time I actually checked it was yesterday.

Woah! The index page has gotten a tune up today! There is only one thing I have to ask, what happened to the news and updates forum? I don't see it listed with the underground and development forums?

AuraBlaze : The News and Updates got moved near the bottom, under the Vizzed.com section of the forums.

I like the new tuneup to the index. Now there are more places to post! (at least it feels that way)

Someone70 : Yyeeaaahhh. I figured that out after I posted. Sorry; just can't edit posts in here. To get off topic by jumping back to an old topic, I can't enjoy fish sticks because I can't enjoy fish in the first place. I do love chicken fingers, enough to have four or five dipping sauces on my plate at one time. Barbeque, ketchup, mustard, honey mustard, and ranch. I want come chicken fingers now.

Has anyone ever noticed that these types of natural disasters always occur in the mid to eastern side of America or other parts of the world, but not a whole lot in the western side of America? I think it's interesting...

It might be because the Pacific Ocean doesn't get quite as warm as the Atlantic. There's nothing to heat the water up in the Pacific; it's a straight shot from pole to pole. So only cool water circulates in there.

In the Atlantic, however, half of Africa gets really hot, so the air from there is what creates the clouds and storms that eventually move here.

Also this kind of natural disasters don't happen in Mediterranean either. I agree with geeogree that it depends on geological etc things. But I'm curious to listen to tRIUNE's point of view

Someone70 : Actually, you are mostly correct. The East Coast has the Gulf Stream, which is a nice warm water current that brings the hurricanes right to the East Coasts doorstep. The Pacific doesn't have such a current, and the water never really gets warmer than the  low 70s F (low 20s C). This cool water doesn't allow the hurricane to keep it's power, and so the west coast gets low grade tropical storms at best, and most dissipate before even getting close to land.

Latin America (central Mexico and lower, to be precise) gets hit with hurricanes from the Pacific much more often, but that is because they are closer to the equator where the water in the Pacific is much warmer.

Source: The Scientific American article, "Why do hurricanes hit the East Coast of the U.S. but never the West Coast?"
